No Gingerbread Love...

Yep, there's no right or wrong because it's all opinions. I was just trying to help you see the brighter side of a situation that nobody can do anything about.

my 5 month old phone? no go. i dont get those options. i can use my early upgrade next feb. and spend $200 dollars for a brand new device. thats my only viable option.

Yes, you can. Root it and there'll most likely be a Gingerbread port eventually.

Not saying that's a fantastic solution for the user, just pointing out that technically it is in your power to do something about it.

no my phone doesnt FEEL obsolete. dont get me wrong, i'm not losing sleep over this. but i do think its a little funny and maybe even sort of a low-blow. That's my opinion just like some people are quoted as saying their droid is the best smartphone they've ever owned. its opinion.

my point is this: smartphones have just started to go mainstream with the 1ghz processor benchmark. i dont care how long the processors have been around, point is, this standard of power is roughly, if not less than, 6 months old. as glorious as my android device is with its replaceable battery and open sourcing, i know i get one more software update and even that is from 2.1 to 2.2. its nothing more than glorified "patch." because it happens to be a phone, i can't pop in a new stick of ram to boost power. i cant evaluate if it would be beneficial to spend 200 dollars on a faster processor or purchase a whole new laptop to keep up with the times.

my 4 year old 'work' laptop still runs xp. it has a dual-core processor with 2gb of ram. its upgradeable to 4gb of ram. the laptop costs approx $1100 new when purchased. if i wanted to run windows 7, guess what? i dont have to do anything. i dont even have to upgrade anything. if i needed to, i could for less than $100. i dont have to purchase a whole new laptop.

i just have trouble understanding why anyone think's this is okay? yes. i know its going to happen eventually, but within less than a year? i think its a little excessive is all.

It is not like this is a surprise or anything. You said it yourself its mainstream for smartphones are coming out with 1ghz processors. The life of a phone from being the "best" to what you call "outdated" is about a year. This phone came out in November of last year and by November of this year We will probably start seeing some gingerbread love on other higher end phones. That is the nature of the game. You should have known that coming into it. I mean look at the G1. that thing became "outdated" by your terms a year after it came out and people still use them. You could always go to apple and buy a phone that you know wont get upgraded for a year an d out of date in two if that is what you were looking for. Don't mean to sound like a dick but it is the truth and most of use here understand that.

There are no guarantees that ANY device will be able to be upgraded in the future. Microsoft could come out with a new Windows OS tomorrow that requires high end hardware to work to the point that 99% of the existing computers couldn't run it. That's life.

I really cannot understand why people have this "entitlement" attitude. You bought you phone with XXX verson of Android. There are no guarantees that your phone would be upgraded at all - let alone TWO major version upgrades.

You have two options available - deal with it or buy a new phone. Stop bitching about it.

I bought a new car one year with heated seats. The next year they offered heated and cooled seats. Damn the car manufacture! It's not right that the newer cars have better options! ...... Don't you realize how stupid you sound?
