Probably because your 'friend' (this is probably one of those stories where you and your friend are one in the same person, am I right?) tore the letters off of the car they were on, and JB Welded them into the back of his (your) car.... no?

Most likely because the tabloid press and 'boy racer' magazines called it that. It sounds snappy and 'Evolution' is rather a mouth-full, too many syllables.

BTW 'Evo' was around decades before the cars and phones of the same name. 'Evo-Stik' glue.
