Help No Light When Text Received

I'm trying to conserve battery life. Does anyone know if you can disable the pop-up and phone lighting up upon receipt of a text? I'd prefer the phone stay dark and allow me to just check it when I want as opposed to the phone's face lighting up.

i use handcent and it only lights up when a text comes in for like 5 seconds then goes black again... Dont know what your concern is really???

I have not found a way to stop the stock msg app from doing this.

In my case I am rooted, i use handcent (which allows one to turn it off) and freeze the stock app.

One could use an app for msgs and disable the notifications for the stock msg app and I bet that would work....it may be why most have not previously noticed. Not many people use the stock app for messaging because it is not very customizable
