Root No longer need build prop?

Ok I didn't want to make a new thread, but I was wondering why I no longer need to use the build prop. I have been bouncing around ROMs and even restored my Stock NANDROID and all Gameloft games appear in the market and allows me to download data & play. Tried CM9 and same results.
Basically everything the build.prop adds to the market. IDK if Gameloft added support for the Triumph, but also GTA is there & works and I'm pretty sure I needed the prop for that too...I have mounted/formatted/wiped everything prior to flashing between ROMs. Does the build.prop get stored somewhere else and I'm not able to wipe it? Im not complaining, just curious as to what happened..

I don't know if they added support or not and my MT is kinda out of commission right now... And the build.prop is stored in system which gets wiped when you do a full wipe via CWM. So it is strange that the games are working. Although I know some game were already supported (asphalt 6 I believe, and GTA was).

Yep I just confirmed that. You don't need the build prop anymore. :D yay!

(Looks like jollyrodger is out of a job lol :P )

/system/build.prop allows custom settings to override default hardcoded values in the source code. If it doesn't exist, it just goes with default values (which works, but may not be optimal), it's sometimes needed to tweak things without having to change it in the source.

Yeah, Gameloft games now show available in the market without a modified build.prop, but when you install them you get a "Phone not compatible" message.

I've never used Chainfire or any apps that hack the drivers...I simply go straight to the market, download/install apps, download data, play..and I have almost every Gameloft game except for 9mm, all play just fine. Ive only used the build.prop once way back on Tickerguys CM7. I use CM7 Reloaded or Froyocream Sandwich

I'm curious what does the market say you have? If you go to the android market, on a computer or your browser and make sure your logged in, go to a random app and click the little + sign. It should look like this:

. For me it shows my MT as Motorola Triumph (and for some reason my it says I still have my OV, even though it's not linked anymore...). So does your say Motorola Triumph or something else?

"This app is compatible with your Virgin Mobile Motorola MOTWX435KT."

It's strange because I went to view Asphalt 6 and it says it's incompatible lol

hmmm. Well I use (well did) cm7 and that's how it shows up for me... Motorola Triumph. And your's shows up as the Virgin Mobile blah blah blah lol. What does everyone else's show up as and which rom/ mods are you running? I know if you had the thunderprop it shows up as the HTCADR something rather. I'm curious now. Oh and also do the games download and run fine (if you've bought them if you haven't then don't buy them if you don't want to.), which games do which don't (gameloft specific).

I may just be one of the lucky ones? lol...i've never run into any problems with my Triumph, except for minor light leakage at the bottom. Got it straight from Virgin Mobile on Cyber Monday, and date on the phone is 07/11..only problem I see with the phone is not being able to register more than two touchpoints, but I believe thats a hardware issue

just checked and it seems like there are way more Gameloft games on the market than I thought.. but I currently have on my phone

Asphalt 6
Block Breaker 3 Unlimited
UNO
N.O.V.A. 2
Oregon Trail
Modern Combat 3
Cowboys & Aliens

they download data, play just fine... only thing is games suck on MIUI, but on stock run great. oh & all FPS ive tried suck sometimes cause the touchpoints cross alot

Yea there are probably around 20 gameloft games (which most aren't even supported on most phones that can run them e.g. MT4GS for example.) I mean the MT can handle them, but the axis crossing/ snapping problem is an issue when playing them. I don't know why gameloft has such a strict device list, but they do. Also I created a new thread to see if anyone else can, what games run, etc.
