Help No notifications when in pocket

Thewiltz

Lurker
I always carry my phone in my pocket. When I'm in my truck I put it in my cup holder. While in cup holder ,on my desk, etc I hear the notification sound. When it's in my pocket I never hear nor feel the sound or vibration.

It seams I have seen an app that uses a proximity sensor, but can't find a setting for the sensor. Is there one? How do I turn it off?

Why would my phone not sound notifications or vibrate only when it's in my pocket?

Thanks

I have the same problem of not being able to get a notification when I'm standing up or walking with the phone in my pocket. If I'm in a quiet place, I can hear the notification sounds from my pocket, but I can't feel the vibration, despite it being set to always vibrate. But if I'm in a very noisy place, I can't even hear the notifications. If I check my phone, I always get the notifications; I just can't hear them over a noisy environment.

I don't have any problems getting notifications while sitting down with the phone in my pocket. I can feel the vibration and sound (the latter depends on the type of environment I'm in, noisy or quiet).

Chances are that you're in the same case as I am. Don't be worried that your phone might have a hardware problem because you couldn't feel it vibrate (assuming that yours was set to vibrate always) when you were not sitting down and with the phone in your pocket. It doesn't indicate a malfunction with the phone; it's just one of those things where our senses need a threshold to detect something, in this case vibrations and sounds. Apparently, they're not loud or strong enough to stimulate our senses.

Try a louder notification sound. You can do this by connecting the phone to your computer and choosing media player. You can download a free music file converter and Audacity (which is also free) and install them on your computer. Then it's a simple matter of converting a music file to WAV or WMA format and using Audacity to choose a section of a song to use as your notification ringtone (you can do the same procedures with your phone ringtone too). You can make it as loud as you want. Then export the selection to a place where you'll be able to find it easily (make sure you don't export the entire song, just the portion you want for the notification ringtone). After saving, make a new folder in your PHONE drive on the computer, titling it "Notifications." Then drag and drop the exported bit, following the instructions on your screen. And then you're done!

plus one for this program...you can not only convert, but you can increase the volume...

vibration fix may come with the gb update. right now I don't think you can adjust the intensity.

To take it one step further, you may want to download from the market an app called "Tasker" which among nearly countless other options, will allow you to create a reminder pulse and/or notification at user defined time intervals. You can even control the length and pattern of the vibration.

Personally I have found that if I'm away from my phone and come back to my desk or the couch I immediately reach for the phone to check if I received a message. So this puts constant wear and tear on the hardware power button, drains the battery when the screen is lit and juice defender reconnects the wifi. By having Tasker send me reminder notifications (10 minute intervals, but you can adjust that) I can just get back to work or relaxing and let the phone tell me whether there's any need to power on the screen/wifi etc.

Be warned though, Tasker is not the most user friendly app out there so be prepared to take a learning curve reality check.
