Root no os

Ok, have just seen you other posts - when flashing the boot image you must make sure that you flash the one that matches and comes with the rom you have just flashed. So if you have now flashed a different Viper rom, you need to extract the specific boot.img file from the specific rom zip file.

this is getting me crazy i extracted the venom file...where do i find the boot.img file ? please explain step by step please

do you use teamviewer ? can you please download it ? it will let you control my pc...you can do all that for me itself ? i am so confused

It should be where ever you extracted the full contents of the Viper rom zip file. It would help if you make sure in Windows Explorer you can see all file extensions - Organise > Folder and Search Options > View tab, scroll down and untick the "Hide extensions for known file types" box.

It's not that confusing, and for the purposes of your security/privacy I would never suggest/advocate or accept anyone handing control of their PC over to someone they don't know or have never met - for your own good you understand.

After sorting out the Windows Explorer option to show file extensions, post a screen shot of where you extracted the Viper rom zip file instead.

That's not the Viper ROM zip file. I've just downloaded the Viper 3.2.1 zip and looked at the contents and the boot.img sits by itself in the root of the zip file here:

EarlyMon already posted it here.

Here's a very good rom -

http://venomroms.com/htc-one-m8/

But you might want to only try the ViperOneM8 version 3.2.1 to start.

Because you said it ran 4.4.2 ok before.

If you want to try the latest, ok, but everything might not work.

I don't know.

I can't say without the rest of the information from your bootloader screen.

It's very late - I'll talk to you tomorrow! :)

You're not helping us to help you if you don't read and pay attention to the advice you are being given.

Ok, can we check these things off:

You flashed a later version of TWRP (either 2.8.5.0 or 2.8.0.3) through fastboot, and can enter TWRP recovery successfully?

You flashed the ViperOneM8_3.2.1.zip (that you copied on to your micro sd card and inserted in to phone) from within TWRP Recovery successfully to your phone?

Even though Viper flashed successfully, your phone won't boot up correctly?

If the answer is yes to all of those, then you also have the zip file sitting on your PC somewhere. Opening the zip as per my post #84 above clearly shows the boot image file - called, well boot.img - in the zip file at the bottom, not in any folders within the zip file. I'm not sure how much clearer I can be with this - maybe we just aren't on the same communication wavelength?

This is the file you need to extract from the main Viper zip file, copy in to the sdk-tools folder on your PC where you also have the fastboot and md5sums tools, and then flash to your phone via fastboot using the instructions in post #75.

Right, just seen your post the zip file you downloaded is not a full Viper rom zip - it has OTA at the end of the filename which means it's probably an incremental updated only. You need the full rom zip.

On the Venom download website, click on the arrow next to where it says Previous Roms, scroll down to where it says Latest Fullrom: ViperOneM8 3.2.1 , then click on one of the download links just below this title either Main Link or Mirror 1/2/3. You also have the md5sum on the page to check the file you downloaded is valid.

Once downloaded, copy to your micro sd card, put card in phone, flash from recovery, then try and reboot. Chances are everything will now work, but it still may not boot properly, if so you need to extract the boot.img and flash that separately through fastboot.

Edit : I suspect Viper has aroma installer, that will load once you swipe to flash in TWRP. If it does just follow the instructions - it should give you an option to wipe as well which you should do to clear away any remnants from the OTA zip you tried to flash.

Yes, should be about 1.6 GB.

It will work - you are s-on (which is a good thing for you at the moment) so sometimes if the phone won't boot after recovery flash, you need to flash the boot.img separately via fastboot. Try a reboot after successfully flashing in TWRP first - either it will reboot ok, or you will need to flash the boot.img and it will then reboot ok.

Good, from that I take it phone boots up OK. Wi-Fi not working is a result of mis-match of your firmware version and the Viper rom software base. Now we need to get the info that was missing/blanked out by the old version of TWRP you had.

Reboot to bootloader, tell me what number is reported under OS. If still blank, plug phone in to PC, open command prompt in sdk-tools folder, type:

fastboot getvar all

And post numbers against version-main entry.

If still blank, we're going to have a bit of guess work to pick a rom that will match your firmware version.
