No Skype Mobile?

Looking at the VZW page doing a compare between the Strat and the D3, it says the Strat has no Skype Mobile, while the D3 does. Not sure what that's all about. Is that just referring pre-loaded apps, or does it mean you can't Skype on the Strat?

Any help?

I'm pretty sure if it doesn't come preloaded on the phone it'll be available in the Android Marketplace. If not you can probably find the APK somewhere.

I was able to download Skype from the market. It also does 2-way video! I was pleasantly surprised that it even worked well on 3G.

mmanna...you got 2 way video working with skype mobile on the stratosphere? I was reading elsewhere that video chat on skype mobile didn't work on this phone yet. Did you do something special or select some sort of setting to get this to work?

I just downloaded "skype for android" from the market (not sure if this is any different than the "skype for verizon wireless" I also saw). I did have to go into options in the skype app and enable video. Tested and it worked on wifi, 3g, and 4g. Tested to another stratospher and to a pc, all worked equally well!

excellent!...thanks so much for the info. Seems like a lot of people really like this phone so far...so I think I'm going to get it. I just wanted to make sure that video chat was at least working on one app out there. I'll make sure I download the same skype as you did...and enable the video. Thanks again for the info!

I'll confirm what mmanna says. Skype 2-way video works perfectly on the Stratosphere. I just installed the "Skype for Android" app from the market and enabled video calling when I started it up and signed in the first time. My wife is very pleased with this phone, and I'm fairly impressed so far and might end up with one myself when it's upgrade time for me soon.

I too got Skype video to work, but it was using the ear speaker instead of the speakerphone. Any ideas on how to switch this?

I downloaded the Skype app and I started out with it no problem. After a bit I would get this large amount of static noise coming out of the phone. Any help with that?

I had the same issue and thought there was a setting in Skype to enable the speaker, but there isn't one.
What I have done, is go to the phone's main setting / Call setting / disable the Voice Privacy option and it worked fine.

My Skype has also done that a couple times. I haven't found a setting to toggle speakerphone on/off. When it's done it, I've just hung up and called them back and then it's worked the way it should (with speakerphone on). It seems to me it may be a glitch in the software as I can't think of anything I did differently the times it did or didn't work.

I got the samsung stratosphere and for the most part its a nice phone. I downloaded Skype Mobile App and it says " this version of Skype wont run on your device, skype mobile with video is coming soon etc..... if this phone actually can do video phoning then where is the app that makes it possible??

When I downloaded the application, I saw 2 versions of Skype on the market. Skype Mobile, and Skype for Android. The Skype for Android app is the one I'm using, and it works perfectly.

New Stratosphere, downloaded Skype for Android 2.5.0.160, it works but no 2-way video. My camera works, as I'll see myself as it initializes, but then no video ever goes through! The audio portion seems fine. Seems I read a review or two that mentioned the same issue.

When I go to the Market, I see Skype and Skype for Android, but when I hit Skype for Android, "Skype mobile on Verizon" comes up and after installing it says that it won't work on my device. Where did you find Skype for Android that did turn into Skype mobile on Verizon?
