how is GV not a voip provider when it advertises low rates to other countries? I don't understand...

You can't solely use Data to talk to other people over the phone; that's what they mean.

so if i buy just the voice plan i can use google voice for free texting? i dont want to get a bill from verizon saying i used text otherwise ill stick with tmobile or get the talk and text

How do you turn off text forwarding? I can't seem to find the option in the settings.

Nevermind found it:
Go into settings, then the Phones tab, click 'edit' on your cell #, then Uncheck the box that says "Receive SMS on this phone (mobile phones only)"

The 1st advantage is when you use the app and don't forward texts, then you can send and receive texts for free. The way calling works is your phone calls your google voice number and then gets forwarded to who you want to call. So what I do is add my google voice number to the list of numbers I can call for free so it won't charge against my minutes.

You probably need to upgrade your plan to get access to the friends and family option.

getting a pricey plan with free numbers on it defeats the purpose of using GV to make free calls imo.

And free texts were possible without google voice, using email instead, but GV does make it a little simpler.
