Help No Verizon Data Connectivity

Old Member

Android Expert
I live in the Cincinnati area and have had no data connectivity 3G or 4G since around 6:00 pm. I'm wondering if anyone else is having this issue. Let's keep this thread to report and post data connectivity loss.

check your settings. make sure the data is turned on. the bars will disappear for a second on my GN, but they come back without data unless i turn it back on in the settings.

doesn't happen often, just an ICS bug.

I've changed it from 3G/4G to CDMA only. I've rebooted several times. Nothing worked. At 9:30 tonight it suddenly all came back. Makes me think it was a Verizon Wireless issue.

Cincinnati area myself here, and more specifically - Clifton.

I've been driving from Clifton to Eden Park to the far edge of Bridgetown and now College Hill before I head back to Clifton...been on the road since 4 pm and I have not lost connectivity once.

Not sure what to tell you :(

Ironically enough, I happened to be staring at a -79 dbm LTE signal on my phone around 6:51pm (I know what time it was because I was supposed to be somewhere at 7). I was located right on the edge of Cheviot on North Bend road, if that helps.

Yes, I was seriously checking my signal readings while driving through a massive chunk of the city of Cincinnati today. Judge me.

Beyond odd though of all the days I decide to drive around town checking my signal readings all around town out of curiosity, another user in my city reports signal issues. So bizarre. To hell with Verizon.

Bubba - is what I'm describing in this thread what's happening to you? I don't want to assume it's the same thing, but I only point it out because if what you're seeing is what I describe there, I'm fairly sure it's a hardware thing. I'd hate for you to get stuck with it or have to deal with a warranty replacement via Samsung if you could get it addressed now. May be too late now with the 15th having come and gone, but figured I'd let you know.

OP - sounds like it was just a VZW hiccup. Unless it happens again, I wouldn't worry too much about it :)

i think yours is a little different. my bars vanish for about 30 secs, then come back with no 4g showing. i then go into settings to find data has been unchecked. it doesn't happen much, but it as occurred on my other three GN's too which makes me think it's software, or even possibly network related because it always seems to happen in the same location..... lol :)

hmm, ok sounds like yours is slightly different.

I honestly didn't even think to jump into the settings real quick to see if the mobile network option was unchecked! But I think yours is something else because I did watch the adb radio logs when I unchecked mobile networks and checked it back on and the messages were different. The "SILENT RESET START" message doesn't show in the radio logs when I manually uncheck and check the mobile networks box. That doesn't mean it isn't doing that, but also mine comes back on its own. Are you saying you have to re-check it manually to turn your data back on? Mine would come back automatically.

Do you have juice defender or anything similar running that might be flipping settings on you? Sounds like yours could definitely be software (which is good, software can be fixed a heck of a lot easier than hardware! heh). Thanks for the clarification, I'm going to ask the folks in the google bug report whether they can check if the mobile network box was unchecked when it happens (my current Nexus doesn't do it anymore so I can't check).

I do have juice def now, but didint in the past when it happened. I think its just an ics bug and is prob the cause of many unnecesary returns lol.

I was fine last night, but this morning I had 3G only from 5:30am (When I woke up)until about 6:30am then it dropped to nothing. I'm in Houston, stock not rooted VZW phone. I know they are expanding 4G today here in Houston so I assumed it was due to that.

update: I restarted my phone and all is well, I have 4G

I just had a blip in mine too, tried to toggle airplane mode, no good. But restarted and data came back fine.

I'm having issues today too. It's not the known issue where sometimes it has issues switching before 4G and 3G and drops to a gray triangle before it picks back up. I still have a 1X signal, it just won't connect to 3G or 4G- this is consistent with what I've seen with a VZW outage. Seems to be ok now, but apparently they were adding a bunch of new 4G markets today so I wouldn't be surprised if that caused issues.

And by "ok now" I mean I'm getting 3G. This is usually a solid 4G area but I haven't been getting 4G since I've been at work.

thank god i'm not the only one. call verizon and let them know. seems like it's only our nexus' cause my mom's incredible has service and so does my co-workers thunderbolt

Edit: i did the troubleshooting and nothing worked.

just realized this is a couple days later, but i have no 3G and when i put it in 4G in a limited access area, it switches from 4G to 3G to NoG, and when i try to open a webpage with 4G on full bars, it drops signal. Typical for my location, but the NoG is pissing me off.

Best Buy (geniuses that they are) felt that my issue with not being able to connect to 3G at all, but 4G was fine was a phone issue and is sending me another phone. ;)
