hey guys, i have a non rooted evo 4g and just recently this issue occurred where whenever I plug my phone into any device that reads usb, be it my computer, my laptop, work computer, or my car stereo, the drop down menu does not appear with the connection options for charge only, tether, or mass storage....

I've tried multiple cables, i've rebooted and factory reset my phone and I still have this issue... my girlfriends evo (non rooted) has the same issue as well, and i have not been able to find any fix for this. any suggestions??

Welcome to AF!!:)
Were you able to have that selection screen come up before?
Let me see if I can remember where that setting is to prompt you when you plug your phone into a computer:p
Try menu/settings/applications/development
There should be a setting to "check" that will tell the phone to prompt you when it is plugged in, to "mount as disc drive", "charge only", "usb tether" etc.
like you said should come up.

I am on a different rom and it has been a while since I was on stock to remember where that setting was, but it is in there.:)

It may be that the USB port is going bad. Try moving the cable around until you can get a connection. Since you have different cables, try moving it around. Does your phone charge ok?

so if the suggestions above do not work then there might be another option.

here is the original thread:
[ How-To ] Fix SD card not being detected & USB port not working

and here is what you will need to do:
1.download these files:
2.create a folder and call it android(you can call it anything you want really) and move the files over to the folder
3.on your phone go to settings>apps>uncheck fastboot
4.connect the phone via usb to the pc
5.power the phone off then press and hold power+vol down.
6.this will take your phone to the bootloader select fastboot(not the same thing in the phone's settings)
7.the bootloader menu should change from fastboot to fastboot usb
8.next on your pc, you want to open the command window with path directed to the android folder. if you are on windows 7 you can just right click while holding down the shift button and then select open command window here.
9.in the command window enter this command:
Code:
fastboot oem enableqxdm 0
then press enter
10.next enter this command:
Code:
fastboot reboot

this should fix your sd card not being recognized.

May I add this prior to step 3? (in case he is unclear how to get to fastboot)
Make sure fastboot on the phone is unchecked. (menu/settings/applications/uncheck fastboot)....turn off phone--wait for complete shutdown. Then,
Press & hold vol down and power button on the phone until bootloader screen comes up.
Navigate with the volume up/down buttons to "fastboot"
Select fastboot by pressing the power button
plug phone into computer.

hey guys thanks for all the responses... i didnt get a chance to check this all day, so tomorrow when i get home from work i will check it out... @mike to get to the menu you were talking about, its under settings > connect to pc and then it will have the options, and yes the option to ask me what i wanted was checked... and to answer your questions, I was given the option about 2 weeks ago, and have been able to get the option for a little over 2 years now since i first got the phone. it just suddenly stopped working when my phone froze, and i had to do a battery pull... since then it hasnt worked.

@tube, yea bro my phone charges perfectly fine both connected to a PC and wall... I've tried my phone on 3 different PC's one barely a month old, i've tried it on my stereo in my car, and nothing happens..

@OCN ill give your method a try tomorrow and let you guys know what happens...

hey bro, I tried using your fix, I get all the way to the bootloader, and select fastboot, but it doesnt change to fastboot usb....

so I select bootloader again and it says this "SD Checking.. loading... no image, and says that repeatedly for like 3 lines...and the last line says no image or wrong image"

also, when i try typing the command in the windows command prompt, it tells me this... "fastboot is not recognized as an internal or external command operable program or batch file"

any ideas??

ok what is your hboot and radio. to do this you will need to be in the bootloader. once there, at the top of the screen it has all the info. if you can report back with what it says, then we can go from there.

So, when in fastboot (in bootloader) when you plug your phone in, it does not change to fastboot usb? Just want to make sure....it will only change to "fastboot usb" when plugged in...when you unplug it, it will change to just "fastboot"

yea bro, I tried it both ways.... I tried it first with my phone plugged in prior to going into bootloader and nothing changed.. And I tried plugging my phone in after going into bootloader and nothing changed.

do you have htc sync installed? if so is it the latest version? you might want to get the latest and see if that helps. if not then try and uninstall htc sync and try again.
