Root Noob root + Miui rom success!

I didn't recommend that video.

We have many useful guides. We cannot guarantee other guides are accurate on the net, ergo we don't really support them.

If memory is your issue, I suggest you read the guide I recommended. Then read the rooting faq

Edit> No offense to you tuffcheez, but this thread is not the first thread I would suggest newbies read. We want them to understand before diving in.

What a crap way to end what I thought would be my first helpful post. Lol!

no no its not that and it IS a good post. However its bad to see someone like kevin, who doesnt really know what he wants just following pretty much a random video.

rasta's post was not aimed at you either and infact I thought I had quoted kevin.

Maybe you could add a link to the "all about rooting" thread here to your first post and suggest they read that stuff first?

Night735..
Was no need for that.

It is generally a better idea to look at videos yourself or do your own research.
Reason being choosing ROM is completely personal.

Now, I suggest you stop having a tantrum.

Sorry to all for that, think i must have had 1 too many beers :o
Im not usually like that

I was answering a question, and I feel uneasy about the "tone" of your statement.

there is no tone, it was a statement.
I think the work you have done here is very good and the fact you are sharing your knowledge with people is a good thing and i wouldnt put anyone down for doing so when you have provided accurate information that works
the only issue i personally had was the minitool but as you said you were none the wiser and it worked ok for you.

the reason i mentioned that regarding the video is because someone further up stated they had followed "the video" and couldnt get it working.

I like supporting people but only when using our media/guides as then we know at which point they have failed and be able to trouble shoot as we also know our guides have been worked on to massive level.

The tone was basically "im not supporting other forums/websites work" mainly because i know that theres some stuff on those sites that are generic and for a desire user can cause problems.
they created those guides, they should support them. most of them dont and just ignore their users.

Our stuff its tailored to our device and our users.

please accept my apology if you took that the wrong way

regards

That makes sense. I now understand where you're coming from. Thanks for the explanation, and your help.

I decided to make a change, from MIUI XJ A2SD+ to MIUI XJ D2EXT X-PART EN.

I reformatted my 16GB sd card with fat32 plus one 1GB EXT4 partition,

I have not tried any other Rom apart from Miui XJ, but the difference between a2sd+ and d2ext x-part is a revelation!!! Super fast, tons of room for apps without the dreaded shrinking internal storage, and a definite recommendation for anyone using Miui XJ a2sd+, or thinking about it, to try Miui XJ d2ext x-part instead! :D

when you say superfast does it feel faster as my experience it doesnt
if you are saying its fast because of something like quadrant then it a false positive. data2ext makes the IO seem faster so it boosts the score (its not intentional, its an after effect)

it is awesome for storage tho...

Yes, I used Quadrant, so it's possibly a placebo effect? It "feels" a lot snappier to me, could be my imagination of course, I have no other way of telling, and the storage is awesome!

its likely to be placebo, it real usage a2sd+ is supposed to be quicker as its only having to deal with apps on the sdcard rather than the whole data partition.
that said if you got a fast sdcard you shouldnt notice much difference and storage cannot be ignored. you cannot beat it for storage

Not sure if this is the right place to ask for help. Anyway. i have been meaning to root my phone for ages, only so I could get around the memory issue. As you will see from above post #20 I have tried in vain.

A guy at work asked if I had rooted my phone yet, to which I said no. He told me all about Unrevoked3. I looked it up and gave it a go. Seemed easy enough. Any how here is the problem. I have "rooted" my phone with Unrevoked3. Somehow from a previous, failed, attempt I already had Clockworkmod already on my phone.

I have a copy of Cyanogen and Google apps on my sd card. I just assumed that I could go into recovery and unzip the rom? But every time I go into recovery and try and select an option I get a blank black screen.

What have/am I doing wrong.

Cheers in advance

PS the lad at work is being a right cock and refusing to offer any help at all. A right pompous prick.

You dont unzip the rom, in CWM select install zip or whatever it is. Your probably getting a blank screen because your pressing the power button to select and turning off the screen, use the trackball instead to select.

Cheers, sorry I should have made it more clear. I wanted to unzip the rom using CWM. Not physically unzip it...if you get my meaning...lol

It makes sense now, i just assumed that you used the power button to select all options.

thanks again

Can I just say a big thanks to all who have helped me with my first root. Without this forum I would never have had the bravery to do it.

I have rooted my phone with the cyanogen 7.0.3 rom. Didn't know if it was worth putting the latest version on, and as this was my first attempt I have decided to play safe.

Any way I have a couple of question that I hope someone can answer.

1. I really like launcher pro and wondered if I can use it with this rom? I have tried downloading it from the market and it just hangs.

2. The rom came with a rom manager. I have read that it is not wise to use rom managers. If that is the case can I just uninstall it?

3. Lastly I currently have the sd card that came with the phone (4gb). If I wanted to get a bigger card, can I just transfer all my info from the 4gb card to the bigger card?

Again thanks for all the help.
