Hello all, ive been on this forum for about 2 weeks researching as much as possible about my thunderbolt. I've had this phone for 2 days now and i know i shouldnt be jumping to conclusions but man....its getting to the point where i keep saying "oh what the f*ck........" instead of " oh snap thats awesome!!!" when i open an app or try to do something with my phone.
I know for a fact that the battery is not as long lasting as my blackberry tour or ipod touch. i get it but come on....i had 100% at 8am when i unplugged it. from the factory provided wall charger with HTC mini usb cable, with GPS on, weather channel app running i was down to the yellow colored battery symbol by 3pm. seriously?
None of my apps seem to be running as smoothly as i thought. Words with friends is a joke, plain and simple.....never get notifications and when i do open it up it locks up and freezes.EVEN AFTER THE SO CALLED UPDATE!!! my facebook app never loads........not once have i been able to get updates on this thing. ive uninstalled every single app and re installed and still no luck. Twitter is a failure, and "peep" doesnt work properly...
i tried the unique phone code to turn off LTE/CDMA option and nothing comes up. i dialed it correctly and it doesnt show the special pop up menu. My work is in a 4g location which i guess is great but man...im beginning to become disheartened with this device. What am i doing wrong here?

Sounds like you may have a lemon if.your getting that many lock up's. I would try a hard reset, just wipe it out clean. See if that helps, if not, I would get it replaced.

Did you change the update settings with words with friends? The default update is set to every 5 minutes. It's a HUGE battery killer.

Don't know about some of the other issues you mentioned...but I'd start there to help with the battery life. But FYI, that app is really buggy...its not the phone.

Ya, eff WWF, wordfeud all the way

I'll try to do a hard reset this weekend. Or ill research it .I guess tomorrow ill have a gps off WiFi off day see how the battery last till.3 pm on my lunch break.

Sounds like your first android phone.

Give it time, it may be frustrating in the beginning, especially with the battery and getting to know how android works. The Right battery twaeks that suit you personally, which apps are draining your battery and you need to either tweak settings or remove etc etc.

Good luck

The thunderbolt is my first android too. Instead of complaining about the battery after two days, I spent some time with it and figured out how to turn some off some things and adjust some settings. I don't use my phone a whole lot at work but from the time I take it off of the chargers until the time I go to bed, the phone is usually still over 50%. Download the LTE off app instead of calling that number to turn of 4G.

Plus, the phone itself can't be blamed for what certain apps do. Some apps are just buggy and don't work well on certain phones. Read the reviews of the apps before you download them. Words with friends is still pretty buggy but its not a secret. The reviews say as much when you download it.

In fact, I'd say all in all just not enough reading across the board. Researching before complaining should be the way that process goes. Unfortunately, however, thats not usually how it goes.

I would say the weather channel widget is a huge battery drain. Take it off and see if your battery life gets better. My bolt I can go over 24 hours and still have well over 50% battery life left. You know many widgets can draw power and you not know it. Mostly stuff you dont really use disable it. I disable the sync for my email accounts. I really dont live my life through emails so I just open the email app and check it then. I know some people that needs it due to their job.

Just play with different settings and see what you get. Also dont compare the MP3 player Touch to a cellphone for battery life lol.

I'm with joesayso. My Tbolt is my first smartphone - I wish I could find an "Android for Dummies" book! I've had to do a LOT of reading on forums (this one, DroidForums, AndroidCentral) and the on-line user manual. I feel your frustration, but don't give up.

David @ TheUnlocker is a good friend of mine and to the Android community in general. He really does a nice job with video guides for rooting and romming different devices but he has now added a bunch of videos showing how to do various tasks. Many of us that have had Android devices in the past may find some of these trivial...but at one point we probably weren't sure how to do some of these things.

This is a good place to start for Android noobs.

Wow I didn't know that! Thanks for the info dude. Man I can't believe it was set to every 5 mins....changed that to every 6 hours. This should make a difference.

Ok so its been more than a few days with it and i did turn off a bunch of syncs and weather apps. i got the weather channel app that just appears in my top left corner. the huge weather/clock widget is gone. i got a Task manager installed and juice defender (thats a whole new world how custom you can get with that app) so now i do get about a full day of normal use with roughly 45% life left. cant complain for such a huge phone with such power. so i still have tons of reading and researching. my next big research? getting my pics to show up as my WHOLE wallpaper without having to crop it.

If you still have issue with aps force closing and whatnot, I would highly recommend to do a hard reset. Do it now so you don't have to setup as much stuff later on. Definitely recommend to download LTE onoff app and switch to CDMA Auto when you feel you won't be using 4G. I leave my Autosync on for my e-mail with 3G only on and last me the whole day. Also check if your GPS is off by having the Power control widget.

I feel like a real idiot asking this, but how/where did you change the settings for this? When I first installed this I looked for settings so that I could check to see how often it was communicating. But when I click the Menu button, nothing happens. Am I overlooking the settings menu somewhere?
