Samsung Galaxy Note II coming to Sprint October 25th for $299.99 | The Verge

We knew Samsung's Galaxy Note II would be arriving on a number of US carriers by mid-November, but Sprint customers won't be waiting quite that long. Ahead of Samsung's October 24th media event, the carrier announced today that the device will be available just one day later on October 25th for $299.99. The Galaxy Note II represents a number of firsts for Sprint: it's the first smartphone larger than five inches to debut on the carrier, the first device to launch with Jelly Bean out of the box, and is also Sprint's first ever quad-core handset. As expected, the Note II will run $299.99 with a new two-year contract and Sprint will be offering both white and gray versions. And for those of you on different carriers, we'll know more about the release schedule for Sprint's competitors at that presser later this month.

Wahoo!!!! You just made my day! Now to try and justify spending $300 on the phone and an extra $50 for an early upgrade... Do you think Best buy would have it cheaper than $299?

Might wanna check out Radio Shack (yes, Radio Shack) as well. They've been running a promotion (not sure if it's still going on) where you'd get a $25 Google Play card for buying any Android phone. Since they did a $50 discount off iPhones in recent years, they might pull something like that again for this. Worth a shot.

I never think to go to radio shack... but there is one right around the corner from my house. I think I'll try to sit tight for a week and see if any other retailers offer a better price. Patience will be SOOO hard

Anybody else find it interesting that Sprints press release doesn't reveal the amount of the internal storage?

Best Buy is great at price matching other deals, for those that are considering 3rd party re-sellers.

I have a strange feeling that Sprint will sell exclusively from the 25-27 and 3rd parties will follow by offering on 10/28. For highly anticipated phones, this has been a common practice.

Can anyone offer up any logical explaination why Sprint would ONLY offer the 16gb variant on the 25th??? I was really looking forward in getting the 32 or 64gb's internal.
thanks.

Logical sure, factual, who knows?

The Sprint variant is just that, they may have the others slated for later production, in which case, that might be logical.

Or it could be a Sprint marketing decision, in which case, I got nothing, sorry.

Welcome to the forums! :)

So anyone hear about any preordering yet? If there aren't going to be preorders will they be available at midnight of the 25th or will I have to obsessively stare at the sprint site all day? I know probably no one knows but I'm getting a little stressed (in a good way;))

I must be missing something. I have an EVO 4g that I bought 2 weeks after launch. Its internal storage is far smaller than 16g (I have no idea what it actually is) and I am using the OEM 8gb SD card. How exactly are you guys using up more than 16GB internal? I must really be short changing my Android experience.

Of the 16 GB on my phone, a fair portion - nearly 6 GB - gets set aside for the system itself and user apps, and around 10 GB for an internal sd card. (it's not a physical card, but it does the job of one, so it's called an internal sd card.)

So, we have roughly the same amount of sd card space, out of the box, 10 vs 8.

If my phone was spec'd the same way as the Evo 4G, it would say that it had a 6 GB rom and a 10 GB sd card. The Evo 4G has a 1 GB rom.

So the newer phones can accommodate the bigger software stack that's typical for the latest Android and likewise for more vendor features. And of my 6 GB of "rom" just over 2 GB is set aside for my apps and data, about 5 times more than my Evo 4G had.

Just like on a PC, more storage means more convenience. If I want to add something, I don't have to worry about shuffling things for available space, as one example.

PS - I am not using a Note, but my storage allocation is roughly typical for the class of 16 GB phones, so the I think that the numerical comparisons are fair enough.

Is there any talk on how much more we should expect to pay for a 32 or 64GB versions?

Awhile back I bought a $200 best Buy gift card and stuck it in my drawer in case I needed to get a new phone. I am not excited about paying $299 for a subsidized phone. However when I bought me and my wife Ipads (original iPad) I sprung for the 64G and have been very happy with that choice.

Adding to that, it wasn't necessary to have the mega internal storage before because you could move apps to the SD card with stock phones. It's different since ICS; you aren't able to move apps out of the box so you'd have to root and choose to swap the memory or just move them.

There has been mention of a couple apps that will let you move apps without rooting, but I'm not so sure how successful they are and will have to wait until I get the Note 2 to test it. Hopefully others can chime in that have tried it. The card slot will be awesome for storage, pictures, music, docs, etc. no doubt; but since I won't root for a while (that's my plan, anyway), 16gb is just not enough app space, especially with some of that being used by the system already.

As for short-changing the Android experience, we all are in some respect. There's no way to go through EVERY app out there and 'finalize' the way you want your phone. There's not enough room for all the apps I would use, plus there are always more apps, our interests change and grow, one app leads you to wanting to try a better one, etc.

That's the beauty of Android - it's an experience that can't be sated IMO.
