Help Note 2 will not turn on / charge

Hi guys,

Super confused here. I accidentally left my Note 2 on during a movie and it drained to 0%/shut off. I then charged it when i got home and fell asleep while texting someone. Everything seemed fine til i woke up and realized my phone was off. It was pretty warm to the touch and wouldnt turn on at all...never had that problem before. Tried to hard reset and whatnot with no success...

It also will not charge (no notification screen, LED not lighting up) but will get warm pretty quickly when plugged in.

I'm seriously clueless here....Any help would be appreciated!

Note 2 on Telus (canada) and rooted about a year ago. Phone itself is 1.5 years old

Thanks,
Daniel

My recommendation would be to take the phone into a store that sells replacement batteries. Ask them to let you try out a new battery to see if that helps. If the unit turns on with a new battery, then purchase the battery and hope that the battery just died. If it doesn't turn on with the new battery, chances are there is something physically damaged in the phone.

I tried using my corworkers battery this morning to no avail (just held down power button).
Would doing the vol up+home+power with the other battery be any different?

When plugging in the charger, is the charging light on? If not, can you move the cord around to see if the charging light will come on?

Also, try using your co-worker's battery and plug the charger in.

No charging light, even with it moving around (phone is getting hot so im assumign its working), will try your suggestion with the battery

i havent had an issue with the charger/cord. i've also tried a few different ones.
Thanks for the suggestions though!! i really appreciate it.

Going to see if charging it for 4+ hours makes a diff (although the phone is getting pretty hot...)

If you have tried different cords, then it's likely the USB port is bad.

I always buy an external charger and spare batteries. I rarely charge my phone with the charger directly because it wears out the USB port.

Hi danielions,

I created an account just right now because I have nearly the same exact problem! I received the KitKat update on Monday, worked fine through Tuesday, and then on Wednesday night I noticed my phone had turned off when I'm pretty sure it still had a bit of charge left. Plugged it into my very reliable factory charger, no lights come on at all but the back top part gets very hot, very fast.

I also had a coworker try swapping batteries with me and tried charging, no dice. I tried "power button+volume up+menu button" for a reset with his battery and still a black screen, no lights.

The phone isn't rooted or hacked in any way. I've only downloaded apps from the app store from supposedly "safe" providers. I'm worried the hardware is fried somehow. Any ideas?

UPDATE: I've been time-traveling through this forum and found a thread with the same problems we've been having. Someone posted this tip and dear God, it's WORKS! My phone is charging now with the battery screen and everything (though no LED light?), I will report back to see if it'll run as normal when I put the SIM card back in.

Hope this helps. Woke up one morning to a dead phone. Ended up taking the battery out, the sim card and the memory card. Then per suggestion on another forum, put JUST the battery in. Plugged into wall charger and within 2 minutes had animated charging battery. Let it charge for couple hours. Shut it down and reinstalled the sim card and memory card. Plugged it back in and it fully charged and has been fine since. Good luck.

Update: the above worked, I put in the SIM card and it seems to be working fine. Still no idea why or how it works. However, I am now starting to think about saving up for a new phone soon just in case.
