Note 7 Recall - Anyone been contacted by Samsung or their carrier yet?

I'm not doubting that Samsung's doing a Note 7 recall, but has anyone been contacted by Samsung or their carrier yet? I haven't, and I haven't seen a peep about it on Samsung's web site or Verizon's. Seems weird. Or is it just still THAT early in the adventure? Are we going to see Dongjin Koh's head roll?

My carrier here in Australia hasn't said a thing. I think they took the Note 7 off thier sales web page but that's about it. I've not been contacted personally.

I think they are all waiting to hear which exact models have the potential issue.

My carrier is Sprint here in the US and I received a text from them today

Got an official text from T mobile today...same thing i saw on my twitter line yesterday.

I have yet to hear anything from Verizon about my Note 7. Guess time will tell if they try to contact me or not.

No

Verizon here in south Florida.

Don't hold your breath waiting to hear from Big V. If they follow suit in rolling out a short statement of remedy like they do with their Android Updates, then you'll here from them in April 2017.

Samsung UK sent me an email with a contact number on. One UK provider I've been informed won't be giving people a choice if anyone got theirs from them they will be leaving no choice (though I don't think that's many if any as this stopped the release)

I spoke to a Samsung UK rep on and unrelated matter and he confirms no reported problems/fires in the UK but voluntary recall on place is busy as people chose to be cautious. He also believes Samsung will be sending replacements out first so people aren't without a phone. I've asked for the recall team to call me within 7 days so I can clarify.

Interesting.... so is it an official RECALL or not?

I have to think (not being a legal scholar) that the difference between an "official recall" and a "voluntary recall" is that an "official recall" would go through the feds, and, like the report said, make it illegal to sell the devices. Samsung probably wanted to avoid that route.

I just got this text message from Verizon:

FREE VZW MSG: On September 2, 2016, Samsung announced a voluntary recall of the Galaxy Note7 in response to an issue with the device's battery. Because customer safety is our top priority, Verizon has stopped selling the Galaxy Note7. Additionally, through September 30, 2016, Verizon is waiving the restocking fee. If you wish to return or exchange the device, please visit the store you purchased it from. When you return your Samsung Galaxy Note 7 and buy another smartphone you will get up to $25 off any accessory. Learn more at https://news.samsung.com/global/statement-on-galaxy-note7.

You can't help but wonder if Samsung will make you return the 256 card or the wrist band if you return the phone and decide to go with a different manufacturer.

They can't make you return the card or fit 2 since they were called GIFTs with purchase. Its a fine distinction.
I too got the text from Verizon but they still don't have any plans to replace our notes with new notes by the end of the month per the Verizon rep I spoke with. Stubborn folks!

Update: Verizon rep I spoke with today says they WILL get new notes in later this month so hang tight if we want to swap for another note. Yay! I should receive an email and a text message when they are in at my local store. Good to know.

Got this from AT&T yesterday

AT&T Free Msg: Samsung has announced that current Galaxy Note7 devices may have a potential battery issue and are investigating the issue for potential safety concerns. Please return your device and any Note7 accessories for an exchange as soon as possible. You can get more details at www.att.com/note7

The REP I spoke with earlier today told me that I should be able to go to my closest Verizon store and replace my Note 7 with the new one as soon as I hung up the phone.

I just got email from Samsung about the recall, directing me to this link:

http://www.samsung.com/us/note7exchange/

...all it amounts to is telling me to go to the Verizon Wireless website (my carrier), and when I go there, there's nothing mentioned about the recall at all, even when I login. Sigh.

What I'm really curious about it, how long into the future will they replace these original Note 7's? Like, can I turn mine in after a year of use, and get it replaced? That'd be one way to make sure I get a good long life out of my battery.

As long as this one doesn't self-immolate, of course...

Yeah, left hand (Verizon} doesn't know what right hand (Samsung} is doing so we're all confused and being told one thing by one rep and a totally different thing by another.

Samsung representative told me to contact Verizon and ask to be put on a waiting list. Samsung will be sending out phones to companies in 5-7 days.

You only have until the end of September to change out your phone. If you do not and something happens after the end date in September then you have to take it up with your phone insurance whoever that's trough and if you don't usually have the phone insurance then you would be SOL I suppose.
