Noticed something on the screen.

So holding the N4 outside a certain way with the screen off I noticed something on the screen. A grid like pattern that covers the entire screen. Maybe this is old news but I've never seen our noticed anything like it before. Figure it's part of the illumination on the display or something.

Just curious as to what it is.

Just tried about every angle I could and didn't see anything like that: mine looks uniformly black .. 'cept for the finger smudges :)

That was really prominent on my old N1, but I can't see it on my N4. Not to worry, it's just the digitizer. Maybe if you took off your polarized ski goggles, it wouldn't be so noticeable. ;)

If you haven't noticed this, reflect direct sunlight into your eyes using the phone, the grid pattern will be obvious. WARNING: do not do this for long, looking at the sun, even a reflection is never a good idea.

I don't doubt they are there or that you can see them in bright sunlight. They are just easier to see in some screens than others.

Here's the underlying technology

Yes, it says "iPhone" but all capacitive screens work the same way.

I'm still stuck in the 90's so my ski googles are for pure fashion. :P

After turing the screen on and seeing the text and images and noticing that they weren't uniform with the grids, it makes since that it's the digi. :)

Thanks for the info sir. My mind is at ease now. Cant stand when something bugs me and I don't know the answer. :/
