Help Notification volume S4

I have my notification volume set at one level above vibrate but when I receive a text it still is very loud. I don't want it as loud as it currently is but I am not sure how to lower it without muting it?

Any ideas what I might be doing wrong?

Try checking in your volume settings because there's 2 separate volumes for the ring tone and notifications.

My ringtone is step 3/4 of the way up but Notifications is one above vibrate. Does the ring tone volume also affect the notification volume?

Hmm if your notifications is just one above vibrate it shouldn't even be loud then.

How's it sound if you turn ring tone down a bit more

I noticed the same thing. Not sure why but it only happens with some of the tones. I tired a few and a couple of the stock ring tones are almost quiet when set on the first level above vibrate. Other I tried are rather loud. Seems odd.
