Nov. Maintenance OTA Update Discussion Thread

i rooted for the best file manager, control cpu, a full backup restore, with the ability to try out new roms if i so please, and if your running with just root and no custom rom there is still a chance the update will come through. Ohh and lets not forget bloatware you city id slave:0)

I have a 2.2 OTA--absolutely NO text lag. I can duplicate the results in that video exactly. If you haven't installed any rogue widget or app, the only thing I can think of that might make a difference leading to periodic lag is that I have a class 6 Transcend microSD card (yes, it does affect things).

Having no microSD card installed is actually worse for performance than having a slow one installed. Don't believe me? Test it out for yourself.

i have the 2 gig micro sd card that came with the phone. it only lags with messaging by the way, nothing else.

Call me crazy, but, I actually like having City ID show me where my calls are coming from. I get a lot of out of state calls and this is an easy way to decipher where they're coming from. I wouldn't want to pay for it but seeing how I just got my Inc I'm enjoying it. I'm sure once my trial is over I'll be annoyed and root so I can remove that and other bloat.

BTW, I still haven't gotten the update yet. I live in MA, has anyone from MA received their update yet?

Location doesn't matter. It's entirely random. Well...more specifically it is the location particularly that needs to be removed entirely. If they updated everyone in say New York City at the same time, then all their infrastructure in NYC would go down, taking all of Verizon's services down with it there. Therefore, they need to spread it out over time to keep load at a minimum.

the ruu is already available for download over at xda-forums....

edit: guess this thread was merged, this was in response to what is now post #96

Messaging is what I used to test for the lag--no lag on mine. Clearly something's different between our phones. Maybe someone with the text lag issue should start a new thread to discuss. I suppose it could have to do with the number of custom spelling dictionary entries...

1. File manager? lolz...now thats funny.
2. Control CPU?? The snapdragon CPU has a dynamic clock speed that is automatically controlled to save power. lolz. Too funny.
3. Bloatware??? Who cares if you dont want to run the app included then dont run it. Once City ID expires it does not bother you again. Too funny.

Rooting the Inc offers ZERO extra real-world functionality over the stock rom. I can do any useful thing with my stock rom that you can do with your rooted phone.

Also stock rom is far more stable than those custom roms made by amateurs.

What about taking screenshots WITHOUT being tethered to a computer? (drocap2)
Or stripping all of the ad's out of all of your apps? (ad-free)
Or backing up apps including data (titanium backup)

No problem, will debunk your list in 5 seconds...

1. Screenshots?? Who cares about taking screenshots of their phone in the first place?? and oooooo you dont need a to tether it to do it with root wow what a big useful benefit!!! not...next...

2. Stripping out ads? Who cares? I dont even notice the ADs. I buy or download the full version of apps anyway so no ADs.

3. Backup??? There are 1000 different free backup apps in the market. Too funny.

You see rooting offers nothing useful over the stock ROM. It only offers a less stable phone. There is no reason for rooting the Inc. Maybe if you want to feel "cool" then go ahead and do it but in reality there is no reason to.

As I said before, I can do ANYTHING useful with my stock rom that you can do with your rooted phone. ANYTHING.

What exactly is updated? Is it the software version? What number should I be seeing?
The past week or so it seems like my phone charges a bit faster, but I have major lag in text and have received no update...unless someone else got their hands on my phone and did it?

If you dont know if you got the update or not then you did not get it. The phone will clearly tell you there is an update available and you will have to initiate it and go through the process. You didnt get it yet.

Are we forgetting Wifi Tether? (don't give me the free bluetooth crap - wifi to any wifi enabled device is what I'm referring to here). This is a super useful app

As for the "cool" factor, I think most of us are far from trying to be cool. I play with Android because I love the Unix/Linux architecture and to have full access to the system files. You can also [sorta] do everything thing you "need" to in Windows OS but I spent all my time learning Ubuntu and various Linux distrobutions because I enjoy it.

**sits down at the computer to start coding an anti-troll app that will only be available to rooted phones**

*laughing* I needed that.

As far as cool... if we wanted to be "cool", we'd have iPhones. Android users are like the definition of "anti-cool"... and some of us like it that way.

Will debunk your claim in 5 seconds...

Wifi tether is FREE on the stock ROM. All you need to do is remove the .dun from the NAI in your phone settings and the Mobile 3G HotSpot app is unlocked for free and free to use. Takes 10 seconds. Google it.

As I have said before you gain nothing from rooting the Inc. I am not trolling. Just because you are proven incorrect by someone does not mean he is a troll.

There is nothing useful you can do with your rooted phone that I cant do with my stock rom.

I believe you can only tether using 1X using the method above... thats what happened when I tried it. If thats the case then your debunk is debunked!! :D

there is an update about to come?

if it doesn't include the new htcsense and htcsense.com capabilities.. who cares?

My brother uses the phone from time to time as do my friends. Was wondering if maybe they got the update while using it and installed it without my knowledge. I don't think they would've known what it was.
