Nov. Maintenance OTA Update Discussion Thread

- Well the update isn't really from us, it's from the manufacturer...
- I don't see a Task Killer on here...
- We'll I'd recommend a factory reset, sometimes updates don't sit right...

Thanks for nothing but a wasted 30 minutes.

At least they offered to replace it if that doesn't fix it.

Off to create a list of my apps...

-Yes, I'm 100% certain HTC DEMANDED they put V-Store on the Incredible.
-...Good.
-Not bad advice, but I wouldn't expect that to work. Go slow on putting your apps back on. Your problem is probably a malfunctioning app.

Actually, if you haven't reset yet, I'd STRONGLY suggest you install System Panel. You might be able to find a bad app that way.

App brain works well.

glad to hear im not the only one noticing a significant degradation of battery life since the ota. i dont think its the battery meter either b/c my phone died last night right in line with when the stock meter and the battery left widget said it would.

before the ota, my battery use would be in the high 30/low 40 % for cell standby and phone idle, with 15-20 % going to android system and the rest scattered over random things. since the ota, android is using 40+ % of the battery while the rest of the items are in the 20s. and the phone is sleeping b/c right now im at 6:35 up time and 2:15 awake time. something is just killing the battery while the phone is awake and it has to be related to the ota b/c i havent added any apps or changed my usage.

like everybody else im tired of talking about the battery life with this phone. i had gotten completely accustomed to getting 12-14 hrs of moderate use in between charges but since the ota, im barely getting 8. nice job verizon, htc, and whoever else is behind this.

my phone asked if i wanted to install, clicked install, and it said, will reboot in(with a countdown from 10 seconds) didn't reboot and theres no app store. any suggestions?

Go to settings and select applications and manage applications. find market app and select clear data...you may have to clear the cache too. should bring your app store back. as for the reboot...good question. are you rooted?

One of the features quoted is new "enhanced support for Yahoo! IMAP email." Has anyone run across any details regarding this, i.e., if there really are improvements, what do we need to do to take advantage of them? For the past several months I have been running K-9 mail with account settings as follows:

In:

Server: imap.mail.yahoo.com
Security type SSL (if available)
Auth type: plain
Port: 993

Out:

Server: smtp.mobile.mail.yahoo.com
Security type SSL (if available)
Auth type: plain
Port: 465

I'm just wondering if I should change anything to take advantage of the purported enhancements.

I do use a paid (not free) Yahoo! mail account, in case that is relevant.

Many thanks.

The OTA was waiting for download this morning when I picked up the phone to head to work. Downloaded first thing and used phone as normal. I had no issues with the OTA and everything worked as normal all day. Battery life seems improved. Charge is usually in the 40s or 50s when I head home. Today it was at 80. Here's to hoping today was not a fluke.

A few sites posted (Engadget etc.) that the DInc was getting an OTA to fix some issues and add some stuff. Supposed to be rolling out soon. Anyone? Also do I have to update? I dont want more crapware.

There is a pretty large thread regarding this issue you may want to check out. But, yes, I've gotten the update. The charging time has more than doubled and a vcast app store and slacker radio were added. Worth it for faster charging, IMO

Wanna share some of that over here...

I did the factory reset, and at least it's synching my apps again. I've been burning battery putting everything back, but it did seem to recharge faster than I recall.

We'll see by tomorrow if the power consumption issue is resolved or not.

Just a side note.

For giggles, I tried the date change trick to force the update and it didnt work BUT funny enough the date stuck and messed up my email because it didnt want to check for mail until 30 mins after the LATER date.

I fixed the problem and kinda laughed at myself for even trying to force and update I dont really care about.

Back to reading a long thread about an update I dont care about....... I need a life!

If this update actually makes charging times quicker, I'm all for it. With the phone on it takes way too long to do a full charge

WOW, my phone REALLY charges up fast. It's really noticeable to me. And in the car too, my phone was about at 73% at one point and I did a couple of errands, and it became fully charged on the car charger, which I thought was a slower way to charge.

Just got the update. S.E. Michigan.

I'm also in S.E. Michigan and received it last night around midnight.

I'm digging the faster charging. I kind of like the little green number that goes with some of the update notifications in the banner bar (e.g. Facebook, Twitter, Handcent SMS). What I find funny is that Gmail isn't one of the apps that takes advantage of that feature. Speaking of Gmail, it seems that the most recent update that added stationary banners above and below emails appears to be working as intended since the update. One weird thing that I had to deal with was that after the update was installed, I had duplicates of every widget or icon on every homescreen. It took me a few hours to even realize that this happened. No big deal, all I did was to drag each extra to the recycle bin.

and btw, im unrooted b/c i dont trust myself enough to not cause an id10t error and brick my phone.

I was like you. Frustrated like crazy!!! Then i got the Hong Kong 3500 battery. Slightly better, but maybe 15hrs life? eh.

Then i got the Seidio 3500 .. can go days without a charge.

I dont even notice the size at all

Am I the only one who's phone went straight into the twilight zone with this update? The install went fine, my phone rebooted and everything was fine EXCEPT when I clicked on my photo gallery, it showed all the albums like normal and then suddenly it said there were no photos or videos found and my notifications bar said that the SD card was removed suddenly. I've rebooted the phone, and every time it says the same thing. It says I've got the card mounted, then when I try to open any apps or photos that are stored on it, it suddenly says that it was removed suddenly. Now when I take the SD card out and put it into my computer, it wont even open it up either. What have I done and what do I do now?? Any suggestions?

Update was waiting for me when i woke up today. Haven't looked through vcast to see if there is even ANYTHING at all worth while. Don't care about slacker. Haven't noticed anything different. Just plugged it in to see if it charges any faster.

I got tired of waiting so i did the manual update, when updating it did it from hboot.. which made me almost freak out.. but everything went through just fine. more bloatware[not surprise -_-] i'll test the battery life out tomorrow to see how well it holds a charge/charges

so the new update adds more crapwear, possibly speeds up battery charging, and the jury's still out on whether or not battery life is increased.

so what else is this update supposed to "fix" or "update"??

I'm thinking it's just bad timing because my SD card just died on me the other day out of the blue, almost exactly as you describe. Luckily I always plug the phone in on some interval and mount the SD card to the laptop and copy all the SD files to backup

Since then I ordered a couple extra from amazon in case it happens again (which of course now it won't since i have spares)

Good luck
