Now that the waters warm...

Dr. Feelgood
Just ordered my Nexus 7! Should be here on Tuesday. I've wanted this thing since it first came out but couldn't pull the trigger on it.

So I guess this is my welcome to the party thread.

What do I need to know? I probably will root this thing, but maybe not right away. I'll check into all of that later.

Anyways, glad to be here :)

Very informative stuff there! I envy how easy that is to root. I changed my mind, it'll be the first thing I do :)

Glad to see I'm already recognizing some names ;)

Glad you joined the ban wagon, I would of rooted it a long time ago, but it belongs to the wife and she won't let me, lol Anyways you will have some great fun with this device, I also created a thread in the N7 of must have apps, you are welcome to add to it, if you find any good apps in your venture and testing. I convinced the wife to buy the N7 over the Kindle Fire she bought, and she is sure happy I did, especially when Kindle came out with the HD unit a week later, LOL

Get an otg cable for less then a dollar and a utp case for under 10 and you're all set to go out and explore the world with your nexus!
Really I got one of those cases for $8 including delivery and the build quality is a lot better then expected, magnetic wake and lock works perfectly and the stand holds up nice. And I honestly think this type of case is the best protection for my nexus. It adds a bit of bulk, because the back is quite thick and protrudes from the tablets edges a good mm. But this means when dropped, the tablet won't actually make contact with the surface. And the material is spongy enough to absorb really well.
I dropped it today, pulling it off a chair with my headphone cord, didn't even flinch when I heard it drop. I'm that confident about it now :)

Lol look at me being a salesman of cheapy TPU cases :p I'm just very pleasantly surprised with what I got for my money, this was supposed to be a temp case.

But anyway I meant to give more tips.
When you get that otg cable and are rooted, make sure to download stickmount for free. The N7 doesn't have a way of mounting external drives. What I did was spend 4 euro on a super tiny mSD-USB stick (its literally the size of an usb connector + 1cm), so I could make use of some mSDs I had lying around. Seems like the best mobile storage solution for me. You might not feel you need it right out of the box, but some day you just might. And like many people here you probably do have at least one spare mSD :p
That's all I can think of for now, enjoy your new baby :D
