O.M.G Where is the begining?

yup. Most friendly big android site in the world... FACT! :D
Ive been on other sites i wont name where either youre scared to post for fear of being flamed or the moderators are mega aloof and egotistical creating a "them and us" atmosphere. This site gets it just right imo

When Roming its important to understand the tools needed to make your Rom's work. You have to have signature zip files most of the time or you get errors. I did a bit of Roming when I first started. It helped me learn the system. One of the biggest things I have learned is that I can remove "bloat ware" and that will improve battery but it wont improve storage. You see X amount of space is reserved for storage so the system wont use it for anything else. Data on the other hand is where all the storage is used up. That's where you have to be careful and learn to manage your apps.

You have a long road a head of you so take your time to smell the roses along the way. One piece of advice I can give you is to learn to depend on yourself and not apps to do processes like nandroids. Learn your recovery. Play with it make backups do restores learn to flash through recovery. This will teach you more about your recovery and how it works than anything else I can think of.

So be patient. Ask Questions. Help others. These will teach you more than you want to know :)

Yeah im not a fan of these apps that try to automate things. You learn nothing and dont know what to do when things go wrong.
This is why i can see problems arising with CyanogenMod Installer, its dumbing things down far too much and these forums will probably have to deal with the fall-out.
on the other hand theres Omni rom built by some respected ex-cyanogen devs that does require you to root and flash it the "old fashioned" way but once you have, it has a really slick update system thats almost like updating on a stock phone but allows you to throw in any mods etc that you want. To me, thats pretty cool :)

Ya, I am aware many bad things could befall my phone but my curiosity wins out over the caution. I am a guy who likes to know how things work so if I do not explore I will always just sit and want to do it. So I figure may as well and hopefully it all works out.

That being said I am taking many precautions and doing all the reading I can to make sure nothing happens that I can't reverse.

Thanks tho I appreciate all the help that has been given and offered.

Ya based on all i have read here my first learning stop is going to be to fully understand cwm and learn how to get into it at boot not just throught a program. Most of the time you need it you cant get to the program to use it anyway.

So back up and restore seem to be the absolute most important thing you can know in learning this stuff from what I am gathering in my reading of all your posts.

It is the most common thing mentioned in all the post. back up, back up and back up again then know how and what to do with it.
