Off Contract Price $700?

so far there is no confirmation on price anywhere expect where you can preorder it online through the UK. so i wouldnt take this to heart yet, the nexus is big news, people want to be in the news with this phone right now, the only way to know for sure is when you are ready to order it and you see the price

I wouldn't be too worried about it being $700~; from my experience, when a price is not known, retailers often overshoot the estimate. This way, if they're wrong about the price, customers can't really complain, because the actual price will be lower. If they, for instance, advertised it for $600, and then it turned out to be $650 or higher, customers would be complaining that they want the price that was originally advertised. Basically, it's less of a headache for them to overshoot the price.

Here in the States I would expect the phone to run at $649 just like the other 2 new kids on the block..Razr and Rezound!

I hope your right b/c everyday that goes by the more I want some ice cream goodness, but I will have to go the full retail route.

Considering we have to pay $300 and sign a two year contract I would be kind of annoyed that people are only paying double without having to be stuck in the contract.

Well you're more than welcome to pay $600 and not sign a contract

From what I can remember goods are usually more expensive in UK/Europe even not including VAT

See, I'm not sure about this. I feel like... I mean, it's the NEXUS... they're going to charge more for it just for that right? This is like the iPhone of Android, not just another phone.

Verizon version will definitely be $649, at least. The GSM version, when it comes here next year, will be priced the same as the Nexus S and Nexus One.

what i want to know is why the writer of the article traveled from the future (the 19th) to give folks a heads up on the rumors concerning pricing information. :o

edit: oops. from october.

at my store the razr and the rezound is going to be running at 649 and the nexus will be 639. I work at a verizon store (non corporate)

if you can't upgrade, consider this option (if you're on a multiphone plan now)
buy the phone at the 2 yr contract price and make it a new line at $10 per month then switch the numbers. that saves about $100 (assuming the phone to be $640) and you have an extra phone. I was told to do this by a CSR at the store.
just realized that it'd add another $30 data plan, so you'd have to drop it on the old phone with the new number. would they let you do that with a smart phone (obviously you'd lose the features) or would you have to switch to an old "dumb" phone? could be tricky or depend on who you get.
I'm in the same boat; guess I may be paying retail.
anyone have any more insight into doing it this way?

depending which store you go to will determine that. Make sure you deal with a Rep that is looking at for you not just someone that is going for their commission. I myself would try to see if that is possible before activating a new line.
