Help Offical Moment Update

From what I've seen on this thread, it's been mostly good except for the few that we inevitably hear from that have bad experiences. I'm gonna still go in after work & have mine updated today.

Ok so good news were I gt the update and everything good so far. Only problem is lol apps are not downloading and I got full ev rebooted my phone completly and nothing also I don't if this was there before but in market now when you press menu it gives you option to notify of updates or not to notify can someone help me out with the dowloading problem??

Well, I'm going into my Sprint repair center today in tally, with the information on the update, and how to do it in-hand. If they still say 'We don't have the upgrade yet.' I'm going to just kind of stand there with a dumbfounded look on my face and ask how can that be if it's in the computer. Then continue to b#$ch at them until they get so tired of me that they pull it up and just do it. When they do that, I'll go and get my father's Moment, and bring that in too.
His is having just straight booty battery life ATM. He gets maybe 6 hours of life w/o use or w/ use. I've turned everything off, making sure nothing is running, and have seen it myself. I'm lead to believe it's his battery, as I'm getting around 22hrs off of mine w/o use and with everything he has installed on it, then about 18 with mild-heavy use. (Involving: e-mail composition, text messaging, e-mail sending, all whilst streaming with last.fm or slacker, all that fun stuff)
Will post on how long it takes to crack the r-***** at the store, that or how long it takes before they lie to me to get me out of the store.

I think it's kinda funny how I plan on being 'that guy' for the day. This should be fun.

Well, got back with bad news, and good news. Bad news, no update. Also the dude that did it was, guess, ret#$ed. He had no idea what I was talking about. So I called customer service @ sprint. I got someone who knew what they were talking about! Yay! Also, we're getting the update here in FL on Feb. 4 (5th probably) over the air. The reason only some stores are doing it, is basically to get people to beta test it, and not to flood the network with new updates, supposedly. I guess it's kinda like trying to slowly spread around so the OTA update doesn't bog the networks out.

This update really helped with the battery quirk, BUT it is still very inaccurate at times, I would have 50%, restart my phone, Then i would have 70%. Its really confusing.

2 weeks isn't bad. i'll wait for OTA, and after a few others have tried. i wonder if it will do a factory reset OTA as well.

If you are in dallas, the sprint store at mockingbird station knows how to do the update. Pandora is fixed, battery meter is better, my gps works correct with wifi off, the keyboard lag is gone, I am happy!

Way to rub it in my face that only the West Coast gets the updates for the next 2 weeks josh.... I'm gonna go cry in a corner....

Meh, only problem I have to bark at (yes I'm half dog, jealous much?) is the keyboard lag when it's horizontal, and that initial lag when trying to move the cursor through text via trackpad. Makes me want to chase my tail. The emergency button isn't a problem with me simply because, well, yes I have stubby fingers (or.... hand-paws.... w/e you call em) but I'm not inaccurate with my movements on the screen. I've only hit it once since I've switched to this phone (yes, counting my first, second, and third now) and I think that time was just to see how fast it was. It was damn fast, but I was faster. Just tapped into my inner being and, like lightning, swashed my thumb to the end call button before the screen finished loading. No man or machine is faster than I.

Hey ppl,
So, i have a slightly less annoying workaround for the issue of not having any of your Restored apps showing up in My Downloads in the Marketplace post update.

Go to the Marketplace and download the app: Market Suggest (should be a really cool app once its tweaked).
Once installed and (slowly) loaded, click on the icon on the top right that says Lists
Then go to Show My Installed Apps.
Tap the little Gear on the right of the corresponding app, select for it to open up in the Marketplace, then install over the existing. Next, back out of the Marketplace (dumps you back into Market Suggest) and repeat.
This is kind of a lame workaround, but I actually got through them pretty quickly, considering I didnt have a written list of what I had installed/restored.
Good luck!

yes...one must def. flash back to cj05. i took my phone in with zefies 9.2 kernal and they told me that since my phone was "hacked" there was nothing they could do. I was told I was stuck...so i then asked, "you just can reflash using the original software IE. cj05." they said no they cant....soooo I told em i'd be back after I re-flashed back to the org. and after i get off work in an hour i'm heading back to the store...

sad thing is I'm employed by sprint at the head quarters and the store I went to is the Store located @ the actual sprint world head quarters campus...sigh maybe i should notify them of this site...

k...after re-installing the org. rom (cj05) (i was using zefies kernals) i took the phone back to the store and they installed the update (cupcake.CL14). and this is the best the phone has ran to date. when i took the phone in yesterday i had 50% battery. After i got the phone back in my possession, i reinstalled all my apps that were previous deleted, played with gps, ect. I DID NOT charge my phone last night because i wanted to drain the battery, well i woke up this morning and still have 30% left. I'd have to say that

I'd like to have my GPS fixed. I'd like to get better battery life. I'd like to remove keyboad lag too. Unfortunately, because I live in the backwater area of NYC/LI , I am unable to find a local repair center capable (competent) of accomplishing the update. I either install the hacked kernel, or as suggested by a couple of the repair centers I called, wait a couple of weeks (for the techs stupid haze to wear off?). The last time I had a phone that could only be upgraded via the store was in the late 90's. This update process is the definition of pathetic, Sprint should be ashamed!!!:mad::mad:

Are there any success stories form the East Coast? I'm in NH close to the MA border and it seems like only people in the Mid West to West are getting this update successfully.

Anyone in the Houston, TX area have any luck getting the update? I'm not having any luck in the Clear Lake area. One bricked phone and 2 "we can't get the updates to work"
Jasonamd,
I took my phone to the Sprint store on Bay Area yesterday around Noon. I had my phone back, updated and working great by 12:45. It may have been done sooner but I left to go run errands. I think Tony was the manager on duty, can't remember if that's his name or not. A guy named Brian helped me at the service desk then he gave it to the techs in the back. It's really working great now. I couldn't be happier (well I could if we would get the updated OS).

Sounds similar to what I encountered. If you're not fixed already, cycle your power, then try "Device Self Service" in the program list, and then choose "Update Profile", then "Update PRL", then cycle the power again. If that doesn't work, a call to *2 is probably in order. I had a similar issue when I first got my phone and had to call *2 and they had me up and running in about 15 minutes.

Thanks. Guess I'll give them a call. They are the ones that bricked my phone and had to give me a new one on Saturday (mine was the first they had attempted).

But can they still update? In other words... did you have an app backed-up that was due for an update, and then after restoration, did it list it a 'update available' again?

pretty sure they are....ashamed and ignorant
OR are they too ignorant to be ashamed?:o

Just did my round of calling again today. There is a store that claims they can do it now! So I'll go for it and let everyone know how it goes.
BTW, exactly WHICH file am I supposed to flash to get this phone back to stock?

I went to the Sprint repair store in Watauga, TX yesterday to get my phone updated. Before I went in I made sure they had successfully updated some other phones already, which they said they had. Cool. I go in, drop off my phone, and am told to come back in about an hour. After an hour I go back to the store only to discover they had bricked my phone. It was actually quite funny because all the employees were nervous to tell me. The manager, noticing my annoyance, gave me a brand new moment and asked if I wanted them to try to put on the new firmware again. I said yeah might as well because I didn't want to waste my time for nothing. After another 30 minutes, success.

The update is okay. It's zippier when going through home screens & menus and the keyboard lag is fixed. You can actually use the on screen keyboard in landscape mode without much stutter, if any. The stock android keyboard is black instead of blue now and I actually find it easier to use than before. I don't use better keyboard anymore, but that's just me. GPS works fine and battery life as far as I can tell is decent. Camera opens up slightly quicker (placebo maybe?) but nothing amazingly noticeable. The major thing I noticed is that my phone actually sleeps now. Before it was awake most of the time, according to spare parts. I guess that might be one of the battery tweaks?

In general if I were you I'd wait for an OTA update. The fixes are worth getting and I like it but it's not anything to rush out to get. Unless of course you want a new phone since there's a high probability the techs will brick your shit . I didn't mind getting brand new hardware though. It'd be sweet if this new moment had the DTV chip in it...wishful thinking.

I just went to the Sprint repair shop yesterday and had them do the update. They told me that all I would NOT loose on the phone would be my contacts! Hah! And t hat my downloads would be in the My Downloads, Hah! and that the updates were minor bug fixes, Hah!

So I pick up the phone and it was basically set to a bunch of new defaults, and I got most of them reset last night and this morning. The GPS is still flaky, in spite of trying all the tips and tricks given on this site, my location is about 1 mile off, if I get one at all, the syncing of the Google contacts took forever (to the point I thought it did not wok), the Calendar looks totally different (synced fast).

One issue that took me awhile to figure out was how to get the USB data transfer to work again. When I connected the USB I did not get the data xfer icon and Windows kept telling me to install a driver from the disc that came with my Samsung phone! In checking all the settings I am not sure I remember correctly, but I think the debugging was checked and I unchecked it.

As to the supposedly improved battery issue, I need to do some more testing.

So - if you plan to update, check all your settings 8and note them down - I know, but it will save you time), and remember that the defaults after the update are different than before the update.

My husband who was getting really excited about getting a Moment backed off and said uhuh, not until I see the 2.1 working well and having a reliable GPS navigation. For me I am still loving/hating my Moment and even though I have about 12 days left to return it, I am pretty sure I am keeping it now.

The only remaining Sprint service center in Albuquerque says the update isn't out yet and they should have it in 2-3 weeks. Don't think I'm gonna trust my phone to them.

Hi Jendawn, Which store did you go to? Did you have to re-install all your apps and settings?

The Battery status (Menu, Settings, About Phone, Status, now only shows either Not charging or Charging!

I had to reinstall all the apps I had downloaded - as well as finding them again on t he Market. They were NOT in the My Downloads, which the tech at the repair shop told me.
