Help Offical Moment Update

I updated my Moment at the Apple Valley, MN Sprint store. It took just 20 mins and believe me my battery life is at least 2-3 times better. I had left it running all night with the Wi-Fi turned on and it still had 60% battery in the morning. I was going to return the phone for a Hero (still within the Best Buy 30 days limit) due to poor battery life, but now it's a keeper. The down side is I had to re-install all my apps. Since all my PIM is in Google, I got my contacts and calendar items back in less than a minute.

I had mine updated at the Apple Valley, MN store on the 18th after the folks at the Lakeville store had it for over 3 hours the previous Friday and could not do it. They told me that there was a problem with the software that they had and that they would call me on Monday, the 18th when they had the correct/updated software. It is now the 23rd, and I have yet to hear from them.

Finally got the update installed on my moment here in North Bergen, NJ. For folks looking near NYC, its just five minutes over the Lincoln Tunnel.

That said, my Android market wont work since the update and I haven't been able to recover any of the apps that were wiped (since I cant redownload MyBackup). Everything just says 'starting download' but nothing comes in - have restarted the phone, but no luck.

Advice very appreciated.

I posted here before and in another thread about having sleeping/battery issues after the official update.

Finally got to take it to a Sprint store and my phone failed testing so they gave me a new one. I was unable to get the new phone updated at this specific store because they didn't have the system to do it. I'm a little hesitant to take it back to the store that updated my old phone since it screwed up.

Does anyone know how it works with the 30-day exchange policy? Do I get another 30 days with the exchanged phone? They didn't give me a receipt for the exchange. I even had to ask them to give me the new box (that is actually missing the charger) and a copy of the repair ticket. They also gave me my old battery instead of the new one but the guy said it passed testing..though I'd feel more comfortable with completely new everything.

The 30 day trial period STARTS wwhen you get the new device. However, it doesn't renew when you get a replacement. It just continues to run its full course until the 30 days are up. I have a special case though, as the customer service dude I talked to put an additional 60 days on mine due to me telling him truthfully what problematic I have currently, and how the CL14 update would fix most of them. He agreed Its crappy that none of these issues have been addresses until now, and even now in most areas you can't get a fix. Basically in short: if the update isn't here by February 4th or 5th, I can still (propounded won't) jump ship to either the hero or *gagging* the Palm Pre.

Hi:

My son went and had his phone updated in San Francisco. The update went smoothly again. We backed up his apps with Sprite Mechanic and like all the others, the non-paid apps didn't show up in downloads.

Tom

anyone having weird connection issues? mine will randomly go into 1x mode or have no network connectivity then come back. or at times it will just showthe up arrow lit up and i won't have any connectivity. could be an app, but just wanted to know which way to dig.

Or Verizon Droid

Just wasted 2 hours of my life trying to get the update in New York City today. The customer service agent didn't know what I was talking about and the tech said he knew, it would take 2 hours.

I came back 2 hours later and my phone was exactly the same as when I left it. I told them that there was no update done to the phone, and they told me to try another Sprint store in a different part of town.

I am not impressed.

Hehe. I've checked with all the Manhattan and Nassau County Sprint O&O repair centers and quite a few of the independents and NONE will do the upgrade. The excuses go from it's not available, it's recalled, it's available OTA and a few even own up by saying they just can't get it to work. It's even more eye opening when you call a center that says it isn't aware of the updates existence and you call them a few days later, speak to the same person and get the same response. Of course you're aware of it dufus, I told you 3 days ago! I guess this is what happens when you live in the backwater sticks of NYC. I did the do it yourself upgrade on Friday, so I'm not even interested in the official update anymore. I'm just amused and distressed by how poorly implemented this upgrade has been. If this is the best they can do with a little patch, the 2.1 upgrade should be a blast!

im in manhattan and also updated myself but figured one of the many repair centers here must be able to do the upgrade. this is a bit surprising!
in the past ive had really good luck with the sprint store on broadway near wall st, they have a repair center too.
if i ever do go into the repair center for the upgrade, i'll make sure to print the update bulletin and bring it with me.

Hey folks. Another newbie here.

I was able to get the CL14 update at the Sprint Store in Alexandria, VA:

Sprint Store By Adcomm Digitel
7011 Manchester Blvd
Ste F
Alexandria, VA 22310
(703) 719-6700

The folks in there actually knew what they were doing. All the techs were aware of the update and how to do it. Mine was not the first successful update they had done. I was in and out in 10 minutes. The drive there actually took longer than that.

I'm upset that the GPS fix seems to leave me with the same problems. Indoors, my radio GPS is awful and can't get a signal. My old Touch Pro, despite its many faults, did this effortlessly.

It may take 2 minutes or more to get a lock if I stand still outside with no obstructions. I commuted home 20 minutes, my phone resting on the dash, and was not able to obtain a satellite lock. AGPS located me on the cell towers instead of triangulating. Often, it was one to two miles off.

Is there something wrong with my phone or will 2.1 fix these issues?

Other than that, the phone is a bit less laggy. I'm happy with the other fixes --- the gps is still worthless to me.

my GPS is leaps and bounds better. you are definitely running CL14, right?

the aGPS (i think thats what its called, like when you use google maps?) is now very quick, even indoors, but yea is usually within 1/2 - 1 mile. its within probably 100' when outdoors.

aGPS works, it's just a mile off. Right now, the nearest tower is 1 mile north of me. My location is pegged right on the tower. satellite GPS is impossible indoors and barely useable in my car (sprint navigation doesn't work at all).

Yep, CL14 is installed as per the firmware/software version listed.

i haven't played too much with the sprint nav but it worked the once i tried pretty quick.

i have a blazer and before the update it would work 10% of the time, but would go up to 50% of the time if i put it on a mount right under the windshield. try that maybe?

I used zefies cl14 update and have a connection problem as well it will randomly go from EVDO to 1x. A buddy of mine had his update at the store and is having the same problem.

Any one know why this is happening. I am also in a known EVDO area where my phone would show EVDO all the time. and now it switches back and forth all the time

Yes, there are. Look closely to the immediate left of the Sprint logo.
i actually just barely noticed this after having the phone for a month and i think those are part of the proximity sensor? ive never seen them light up.
the only thing ive seen light up are the home, menu and back arrow below the Samsung logo, the capacitive touch buttons.

Sorry then, I stand corrected.

FOUND IT, THE APP "GPS STATUS" DRAINS THE BATTERY ON CL14 EVEN IF NOT RUNNING. This has always been the second app I downloaded to check the GPS satellites. This time after format I checked after each app and low and behold there it was 100% running with this installed.

After looking at the comments about it I noticed that other people have this problem on other phones with the application running or not.

I am having a real problem with Sprint support. My center in Elizabethtown, KY kept my phone for an hour then came out and said there wee glitches in the software and they did not want to continue. I called another center 35 miles away in Louisville who said they could do it, yet when I got there they said they could not do it and sent me to an even larger store. As expected when I got there, they said they did not have the software to do it. I logged over 8o miles that day going from store to store who all said they could do this and then did not. I would think that if this is a global update that all the centers would have the software at the release date and the technicians would be proficient enough to handle it. In my job if I can't perform they would find someone who can.

i have this installed but haven't ran it since CL14 and don't see it loaded in memory or accessing any resources? how would it drain battery if it is not running? meaning its not accessing any resources?
running top from the shell doesn't show it loaded or ps -x

[rant]I'm starting to wonder if the botched implementation of the update was engineered this way? I'm usually not one for conspiracy theories but...

There are now a decent number of stores across the nation that can do the update. And in this age of this great technology, it seems that Sprint is assisting stores via the Pony Express. Rather than sending another mass e-mail with the tips derived from one of the dozens of competent stores. Why?

We know that the update should be universally accepted as far as the implementation goes (because all of the phones are the same). And we know that the update does work in the phones that were taken to competent stores (set aside maybe one reported brick from bad implementation, not the software itself). We also know that this is merely a software update and could be done OTA and should have been available last week... but it wasn't and still is not. So again, Why?

I'm starting to wonder if it might have something to do with the new button that is available after the update? By splitting and preoccupying their customers with this botched update, they break down the unified demand for the 2.1 update. Could it really be that Sprint is just creating a distraction in order to avoid (or at least create an excuse) for the PR nightmare that may ensue when they inevitably can't make the Q1 update in time?

So is this botched implementation a distraction from the 2.1 update? Or is it just proof of Sprint's incompetence? I dunno, but after going back and reading through this rant, I think they are just probably Fing morons....:o

The one on outer loop couldn't do it? I have a buddy that works there and they had no problem with my sister's phone. I am sorry to hear that. I never had a good experience withthe store in Elizabethtown though. I didn't even think they were corporate so After one bad time I never went back.

I have no idea why, I also had it installed with no problem running prior to CL14 and my wife has it installed post CL14 with no problems, the difference is that she has not run hers while I have. The moment I ran it my system stuck at 100%. If you look at some of the comments on the market others have had the same problems on different phones and they say that the program is not running.

On two sightly different subjects the reason I am starting from scratch and found this, is that I exchanged my 2nd moment at Best Buy and the new one they gave me had CL14 on it. Also after talking with Sprint advanced support yesterday they said the unofficial scuttlebutt they heard was 2.1 will be out the last week of February and that the changes were amazing, especially how contacts were handled.
