Help [OFFICIAL] 2.2 ota is live for evo

My phone popped up a window asking me if.i wanted to update over WiFi it 4g. I needed to use the phone and had neither WiFi nor 4g at the time. There was no update later option so I hit the back button and the window went away. How do I get it back? Or otherwise download it? My phone isn't rooted.

Woot! I just got a pop-up that 2.2 Froyo was ready for download and I just downloaded it.

So for those of you in Texas that didn't get the FOTA yet, you should get it soon.

Menu -> Settings -> System Updates - > HTC software Update.

That should allow the phone to scan for the update and then ask you if you want to download/ install it.

If it doesnt then enable WiFi if you can. I hear stories where people do need this to download it.

Also, You may want to back your phone up using the 30 day free trial of MyBackUp. It will back up your Apps and also any settings and your MMS/ SMS and call logs ect.

From there do a hard reset. Doing so just gets rid of any headaches that 2.2 may bring to your phone.

Once the hard reset is complete re-download the MyBackUp app and then do a restore. All settings and logs and apps will come back.

Only downfall is it doesnt save your widget/ app placement on the home pages. So you will need to re customize it but its alot easier then remembering everything.

I never did the software update because of concerns of issues arising from a phone I felt was working just fine. Question now is can I do the froyo update without having already done the software update or will that mess things up. Should I just go ahead and do the software update now, and then update to froyo?

Thanks.

I too was sitting there waiting for my phone to magically do something. I stared at it and stared at it. Finally, I decided to do a search on google... and sure enough, its as simple as:

Menu -> Settings -> System Updates - > HTC software Update

No fuss, no confusion, no hassle. I wouldnt try to do the update while driving down the freeway or with a weak wifi connection.

Anyway, this was a much needed update! No more sluggishness. Battery life seems to be pretty decent now.

So new to the forum and very exited about the Froyo 2.2! Went to the HTC software update in the phone and pressed the "check now" button. Then the "checking" box apears with the circular status bar rotating. Then it just continues checking and nothing happens... Its like its stuck in the checking mode and not actual checking for any updates. I have left it alone like this for up to 5 mins and no progress. I have tried everything that I can think of, from wifi connection to just 3g connection and nothing. The phone is stock and not rooted. Any ideas or is it just not my turn to upgrade yet???

Just activated 4g and did the update inquire. The whole update took about 10 minutes. I'll have to use it a bit to see how performance may have changed.... :D

Not sure if this has been mentioned but I discovered a new feature. If you go into your app drawer and long press an app then drag it to the trash but don't let go right away it'll uninstall the app for you if you decide to let go once prompted to do so.

So I got the OTA update earlier today.... Downloaded it and everything. But when it got to the install part I pushed cancel or Sumin and now the update is gone all together. I tried everything to get it back... Reset my phone, searched for new software update, but it won't come back. What should I do?

Around noon yesterday, I was prompted to install the update, said 'yep (of course!), and ten minutes later was good to go!

I haven't noticed any change in battery strength (mine has been fine anyway), but things definitely seem zippier and scrolling seems much smoother. Android FTW!

I havent had time to read through 7 pages on replies and just wanted to say my all stock EVO took the ota 2.2 update just fine and battery life is fantastic compared to previous OS from 6am to 10pm with moderate use WiF, Bluetooth and gps all on I still have 40% battery left. Also one of the things I didn't see listed in the foryo updates is now my phone does 2 way sync with all my mail accounts.

Is that the link to Version .6 and what if we already have the old one .3 can we get .6? Has anyone that got the early one .3 gotten the new one .6 and if so how did you do it. I read on Twitter HTC is working for a way to fix things for us that got the early one.l HTC's twitter page said give them a couple days.

Oh sorry I just asked about doing that above. I wasn't done reading this whole thread and I commented. But now we know. Mine phone is good except my battery drains faster but I have 4 so I'll just wait it out for a fix. I wont' do a hard reset. Also stuff I end in system shows back up. But I love having BT voice dialing and browser is faster and flash wow!

some one on XDA tried it over the leaked version and it did not work, just a heads up. Might be good to wait.

Updated both the original HTC update and then to Froyo 2.2 via OTA.

I basically saved everything on my SD card to my PC first. Then I unmounted the SD card, and formatted it. Once that was done, I then did the software updates.

So far, its good. I like the flashlight app. It is really bright. I still see uncessary apps in the background even after I kill it such as Amazon MP3 and radio. Not sure what I can do with that. I like the new Facebook app 1.2 that came with the updated froyo. However, I just found out that FB just updated to 1.3!!! I might have to download that. Wanted to see if other folks have DLed it and get their feedback.

Android version: 2.2
Software Number: 3.26.651.6

Things to be determined: battery life. Right now, its been on for 2.5 hours and I am at 70% battery life. I have been playing around with it, so will have to see. I will post back results after the weekend.

There saying now that the updated FB app is keeping your phone awake and draining you battery. I kept setting my phone on my desk lastnight and turning off the screen and it kept waking up and coming back on. I got it and wish I wouldn't have. I'll have to check my version number. I logged out and closed it out cause I read that helps and my battery still drains worse then before but I am on the unofficial 2.2 not the OTA one. They say there working on another update.

Updated both the original HTC update and then to Froyo 2.2 via OTA.

Is anyone reporting all of these issues to Android? There has to be an update, 2.2 is extremely laggy. And yes I did a hard reset.

I agree, not happy with 2.2 at all, my battery life is horrid in comparison to what I used to get, with light usage I could get 50 hours, now with light usage maybe I get 24, I don't know what it is, they need to do another update and fix this, I agree, mine lags a bit as well, who else is experiencing problems? it seems to me they rushed it, also sharing apps does not work, I tried it, nothing

For those that used Unrevoked3 with 2.1 and can't get the OTA install to work, try this one from Pojoman at xda:

Pojoman vs. HTC - The race of the "delayed" 2.2 software fix. - xda-developers

Cliff notes version:
YOU WILL LOSE ALL DATA ON THE PHONE (not the SD card, just the internal phone memory), this is a wipe of your phone.

Download: RUU_SuperSonic_S_Sprint_WWE_3.26.651.6_Radio_2.15.00.07.28_NV_1.40_release_140444_signed.exe (note: it is 193 MB (202,577,431 bytes))

1. Install HTCSync
2. Press down and power simultaneously, and go to the bootloader
3. Allow the hboot to run.
4. Connect the usb (note: make sure you allowed for usb debugging prior to loading bootloader)
5. Press fastboot (Using the power button as select) and it will change to Fastboot usb
6. Run the .exe from your computer.
7.Thank Pojoman and all those who talked him through the day while waiting for this fix.

Took me about 15 min, but worked. Updated to 2.2 on a previously 2.1 running Unrevoked3. you WILL lose superuser/root.

Hope this helps some of you stuck at the <!> point. Remember to thank Pojoman for his work getting this one.

Say that one more time please. I tried that with nascar and never got an uninstall prompt. You did say "long hold it and drag it to "remove" spot at bottom but keep holding it down" right?
