Official 2.2 update here at last.

Yeah the official Froyo for the Milestone has been released to certain countries. If you're looking for the SBF's they have are now posted on: sbf:milestone [And Developers].

If you're already running a 2.2 or 2.3 rom and you're receiving random reboots you might not gain anything by flashing one of these SBF's because they have the same kernel errors.

Hopefully one of the other country's Motorola releases a different SBF of Froyo with a different kernel, although I doubt it.

Edit: oh and if you're wondering about Telus: "Milestone : this winter – Android 2.2 –> just finished testing and should be on its way very soon. Early spring"

it really sucks

i just updated to it on my milestone manually from motorolas website and its now soooo laggy and slow

its basically unusable

also i have lost my 2g and 3g connections so i cannot get on the internet at all. i can still receive phone calls and texts though.

all my APN settings are the same and still look correct

im at a loss

very very disappointed

Do a hard reset and I bet it will solve the issue.

I did the update last night and while it's not destructive (so you will keep your data) it was running slow and - given the Milestone is no longer a phone I use that often - I did a hard reset. Figured it might fix any issues.

You can still root it (unlike the latest update for the DEFY) but when I try and use the overclocking app, it reboots instantly - and if set to start at boot, it gets stuck in a loop (so I had to remove the SD card).

I wouldn't say it's very slow and laggy, but obviously if you can't overclock it to 1 or 1.2GHz, there's going to be a noticeable slow down on what you're used to.

At 550MHz, having Adobe Flash isn't that great. Using the BBC iPlayer app, it stutters along unless you choose the lowest possible bitrate.

Given I had my Milestone before Christmas 2009, this promised update (from the 'Flash Ready' advertising) is far too late. Many people will have moved on so this update is only really any use for people who get one second hand.

What a shame Motorola dragged its heels for so long.

So will flashing the official ROM fix the non-syncing facebook contacts issue with GOT 2.2.1? It's a small thing but I do miss my self-updating contact pictures!

cheers for the advice, i tried to do a factory reset but it hasnt fixed anything and is still in the same state of not having 2g or 3g connections

the APN settings have been re-entered just in case

i did the reset by;

Settings -> Privacy -> Factory Data Reset

Is that the best way to do it? ive read that other people are doing it different ways (powering off and holding volume keys etc)

any other suggestions on how to get the data connections working again guys?

I always do the other type of hard reset with powering the phone down etc.

As for 2G, 3G call you provider and make sure you have the right APN settings on your phone.

Motorola Milestone achieves Android 2.2 milestone at last, Froyo update ready for download -- Engadget

Did anyone try this yet? better or worse than the custom ones out there?

pros? cons?

I've tried it multiple times the last couple days. My software comes back with the msg:

There is no software update currently available for your mobile device. Please check back for new releases.

I'm to Telus (Canada)

.. We'll (Telus Canada) have it next week, according to Motorola Canada on Facebook

That's great 'news' but I'll believe it when I see it. They've been pushing it back for so long now.

Not sure why they're going to 2.2 when 2.3 is out... But I'll just be glad to be able to use my SD card finally to store apps. Every time I download something new that looks interesting, I have to go through my current ones and choose which one dies so I have room for a new one.

Typical Telus and just Canada telecommunications in general. Years behind other countries when it comes to mobile. Heck we're still paying $30/month for 500MB of data.

...
but we have great health care! I hear you though about the "app boogie shuffle " I've always said that I have something better than apps2sd, I have appstomarket. Works just as well.
I'm gonna give this official update a go, try it out, and if it doesn't meet my appraisal then I'll go to G.O.T or CM.

how easy is it to install if you already on Cyanogen 7?

Is it possible to swap back if i do "downgrade" just to see what its like?

I did the UK upgrade the other day, And I have to say I can't make my mind up if its worth if or not, and I'll give you a few reasons.

~The in-call sound level is so low its a joke, it feels as if its stuck at 4 in old settings wont go any higher. (only fix is to use the loud speaker) this is the biggest problem to me
~After I upgraded, I lost ALL wifi connectivity. I would find the wifi, but just kept connecting and disconnecting. (if was fine after a master reset).
~It hasn't fixed the random power cycling. (random reboots).
~it keeps freezing when coming out apps/stand by
~there is some lag (but on par with before)
~contact pictures dont snyc with the text messaging and emails.
~Silent option has been removed from the ring volume rocker. you have to go in to settings to turn off vibrate.

So make up you mind if this is worth push notifications, WiFi teathering, flash and app2sd.

If there is no fix soon I'll have to find a good rom.

Wow, those are MAJOR issues. Not just bugs. The phone is pretty much useless with those problems.

Question: Is there any way to REVERT BACK to 2.1 update 1 if the 2.2 update has screwed things up badly?

Is the upgrade software a dservice version that does not destroy your data? If it was a non-destructive update do a hard reset.

hmm..so ive decided to switch over to CM6 instead of using the official one. and i've got to say, I am pretty impressed with CM6. its really fast. I feel like ive got a new phone.

the only issue i am having now is random reboots (~about once every 2 days? )

The update is non-destructive, but I would definitely recommend a hard reset after and reinstalling your data (either manually or from a backup) afterwards.

Unlike the recent updates to some other models (DEFY), you can still root after - but overclocking appears to crash the phone (on mine anyway) immediately, before you've even set a speed. I guess a custom ROM is the only option unless anyone knows of another way to overclock? Dropping back to 550MHz is probably why so many people are seeing 2.2 seem so slow!

...it's disappointing to hear about all the issues. I recall reading one of the comments on Motorola Europe Facebook, the commenter said..."how anti-climatic." Seems that is the perfect synopsis for this whole thing.

My question; I'm still waiting for Telus Canada/ Motorola Canada to release the update...but can I expect any improved performance from this release, or is the delay simply so that Telus can tailor any bloatware to it? Does Telus have the capability to fix anything?

Have you tried installing GOT recovery and rooting overclocking I meant of course from within the recovery?
