Official 2.2 update here at last.

The update is non-destructive, but I would definitely recommend a hard reset after and reinstalling your data (either manually or from a backup) afterwards.

Unlike the recent updates to some other models (DEFY), you can still root after - but overclocking appears to crash the phone (on mine anyway) immediately, before you've even set a speed. I guess a custom ROM is the only option unless anyone knows of another way to overclock? Dropping back to 550MHz is probably why so many people are seeing 2.2 seem so slow!
Are you using universal androot (or some other app to root) and milestone overclock? This is my set-up and if this update quashes that, I might take the plunge to CM6 instead.

...I have appstomarket. Works just as well.

Where did you get appstomarket?

The update won't get rid of your data. It was all there, wallpaper and all home screens intact. I had to master reset to get the wifi working again. I cant stand the update, ive come across some more issues since last post.

The freezing isn't so, when the screen stops its actually still functional, it just isn't displaying anything just a black screen. I know this because i managed to unlock it, accidentally call someone, and turn off the phone.

If i'm to be honest about the flash. Its CRAP, its all jerky and stuttered.

I'll be looking for a rom if any one knows the best to go for.

I URGE YOU NOT TO TAKE THE UPDATE. BUG CITY!!!!!

There are quite a few good ROMs out there:
- CM6/CM7
- HoboMod
- Iceandfire (CM7 based)
- MIUI
- GOT 2.2.1

Right now I'm using Iceandfire 1.8 and it's great.

is there a way to go back to 2.1?

Sure, you can always flash a 2.1 SBF.

Stability varies from device to device but I haven't had any stability problems with any of these ROMs ... well, I've only had some stability problems with the 3D gallery on all ROMs except MIUI which has it's own 2D gallery.

About voiding the warranty - if you brick your phone you can always connect it to your PC and flash a SBF of your choice via RSD Lite.

Yes. I re-rooted after the update (fine) but Milestone Overclock crashes the second you activate it - irrespective of the speed you'd want. If you'd set it to auto-load then you'll have to remove the SD card to get the phone to stop starting up and rebooting.

I don't know if there's a newer version of the overclock app?

Yes it has been updated and it now works again! I must say that going back to 1GHz (1.2 runs too hot for me) has improved things considerably.

The problem is that the update is so bloody late that I no longer use the Milestone, and it's now just sitting at home in the dock without a SIM card (so Wi-Fi only) and used like a tablet. It really needed 2.2 when I had it as my main phone.

I am really hoping Motorola doesn't mess me (and everyone else) around with the 2.2 update for the DEFY now!

People telling us not to update seem to forget that on the Telus milestone the Kernel is locked down. We cant overclock or anything. My plan was to Update to official 2.2 then flash a better rom.

Sure you can overclock easily. Google universal androot (a one click root app) on your phone, dl it straight from the web to your sd card, intstall it on your phone, root it with this app, get milestone overclock from the market, overclock your phone, easy as that.

No, you're wrong. The Canadian milestone can NOT be overclocked. I've tried a few different ways and none work. One way even got me in a boot loop till I took the battery out. You can root and flash custom roms but that's it. Hell you can download the overclock app off the market but the moment you move the slider and apply the phone crashes.

The europe milestone can be clocked and so can the american droid but not in Canada. Sorry.

Sorry for you as my Canadian Telus milestone is running at 1ghz right now, even after the 2.2 update. Did you actually try what I suggested? It works great and is super, SUPER easy. There might be something wrong with your phone as a few people on this forum have got their milestones to overclock this way (or with Easy Root which I don't know if it is available anymore) as well.

Sorry but I just did that and the overclock app freezes and force closes while trying to load module. As I said, you're wrong or not using a Canadian milestone.

Are you rooted? This app does not work unless you are rooted. There is also an update for the app, have you checked for that? It is now optimized for 2.2. Lots of people were having the same problem as you before Tiago Sousa updated his app.

Seriously, I am running 1ghz with this app on a Telus Milestone here in Red Deer, Alberta, CANADA!!!

lol, of course I'm rooted. I used RSD lite(I think that's what it was called:P) been a while since I rooted... Maybe I'll go un-root and root using your 1 click root and see if somethings different.

Although I may just wait for 2.2 now since it's so close anyways. Maybe be able to overclock on 2.2?

and can someon help me updated?? is there an apk available because i'm unable to update trough motorola connect ( don't know if this is the thing to use but thats what the download link on moto website installed on my pc) and nothing want to update.... i'm pissed.... I called motorola and they told me to send me the phone, screw them..

You want to update with Motorola Software Update. Go to the Moto Canada site, then go over to get help on the far right then go down to "for software and drivers". Click on that and then go down to "update my software" on the left side and click on that. Then choose what carrier you are with, then select your phone, then click the little play button. Then go to the "i have read step 3" and click the box beside it. Download software update should now be accesible and click on that to download Motorola Software Date software. Let it install as it may take a few minutes then run that program. After it is running, plug your phone in with a usb cable to your computer and it will read your phone and hopefully you will be able to get the update.
