Official 2.3.4 OTA is released

I'm not much use to you on that issue, I'm afraid, because I've never seen the redraw issue on my X2, prior to the OTA or since.

Perhaps others will chime in.

I got 2.3.4 this morning and at first it seemed much better than 2.3.3 as the phone wasn't getting as hot and service seemed better as well. However, after about 4 hours after the update I started to notice laggy home screens and much slower web browsing speed. I tried to test the bandwidth with speedtest to compare to before the update... won't work at all. I then did a quadrant test and it was 2513 instead of my pre update 2800+. This update literally did nothing good for me actually quite the opposite. After I noticed the lag/bad performance I cleared the cache and rebooted but it didn't help. I'd like to know if its possible to roll back to 2.3.3 without rooting or wiping my phone. Thanks!

Pretty interesting.. most places where I have read of people updating to 2.3.4 have had great results. I would try updating your PRL by doing *228 option 2 then rebooting and see if it makes a difference. I suppose you can SBF back to 2.3.3 but I would not recommend it. Perhaps try a custom ROM on XDA like Gingerfunk.

Thanks for the compliment, ErisOwner. But I'm sure you'll begin to notice as you spend more time around here that the place is populated by a lot of people with know-how, all willing to offer assistance. :)

I'm asking those who've received the OTA (not installed the leak) how long ago they purchased their X2. I have a suspicion about this being released so slowly, and that suspicion is that only recently purchased X2s are getting the OTA for now.

The X2 has been out since last Spring, and I've yet to see a report anywhere of an older version receiving this 2.3.4 OTA.

I got my X2 in June...and got my update this morning

I just rooted this using the Droid 3 zip file provided here:

DROID 3 easy root script v7.zip

Use at your own risk.. of course. If you brick, burn, blow up or otherwise harm your phone, refrigerator, wife or school using this method, don't PM or make nasty posts to me: it's your fault. ;)

I downloaded the zip file to my downloads folder on my laptop.

Extracted it in the same folder.

Connected my phone via USB cable.

Left it on "charge only" with the screen live (awake).

Clicked the "Click to Root the Droid 3" bat file.

Watched for about one minute until "your phone should be rooted now" popped into the terminal screen on my laptop.

Now working on which apps to safely remove. ;)

I'll post this in ATR, as well. I just wanted users of the OTA to know the Droid 3 OCR works for this X2.

I just bought this phone to replace an old smartphone for awhile until I decide what upgrade I want to get. My dad just got one so it seemed like a good choice.
Well today he received the OTA. He bought his X2 new about a month ago.
I bought mine a week ago, used, and its about 6mos+ old. I rooted it as soon as I got it with the one-click method. I want the 2.3.4 update. I unrooted it using the one-click tool so I can get the OTA. I think it worked. How can you tell?
Also, I didn't make any changes while rooted, so all I have to do is be unrooted again to get the OTA right?
I assume since my dad received the OTA today, that I will get it now that I'm not rooted. Is it a regional update, or a phone-by-phone basis?

One way to tell if you are un-rooted is if you don't see the "Superuser" icon anymore. Even if you don't get the OTA update it won't be long before the official update is available on XDA for everyone to download and manually update. At that point you can just flash that.

Got mine today after checking for it. Eastern PA

Install smooth. Seems snappier. Will test the audio tomorrow to see if the skipping is fixed.

Just a warning, if you are rooted, and unroot, you may still have issues with the OTA failing to install. I don't know what is causing it, as I put the phone back to stock, unfroze all the apps, unrooted, same issue. It fails about 1/3 of the way through. Sigh. and I don't have any more time tonight to mess with it, so I'll just have to reroot and fix it another time.

CriticalMass, it's a major pain in the butt, but if you do a factory reset after unrooting, that should fix it for you so the update comes through. But I understand if you dont wanna do that.. it really is alot of bother

Got the update here in Missouri. I've noticed that when I press the screen off/power button on top, the screen does this thing where everything zaps to the middle (like an old tube television). At first i thought it was a glitch, but now I think they did it intentionally. Has anyone else noticed this?

Also. When you do *228, what is the difference between option one and option two? Does option one completely reset your phone and option 2 just connect to the nearest tower?

Simply put, *228-1 is for the initial programming your phone.

*228-2 updates PRL info for improvements/changes to the network.

Reporting in from just outside Philadelphia (West Chester, PA). I noticed this too, and it seems to be the only difference I have noticed so far (I admittedly haven't played around with it too much though) and I think it's really neat. Has anyone on here ever ridden the Tower of Terror in Disney World? Haha, the effect reminds me of the television they make you watch before the ride. Very cool!

The CRT type display when the screen powers off is part of the update.

Anyone confirm this is true?
I don't want to do a factory reset unless I know for sure it will work and I will finally get the OTA sent to me.

I did...unrooted and did a factory reset. Of course, just because it worked for me, I can't say it's definitely going to work for you. It just happened to work in my case.

yeah i just did that, same problem, the update is failing to install. unrooted. factory data reset. This is really beginning to piss me off. I never had issues with the DX, if the screen hadn't been damaged in a drop....... sigh. This DX2 has been the bane of my existence since I got it.

Ok, finally got the OTA sent to my phone tonight. I don't really notice anything different, but I've only had this phone a week.

Tomorrow I'll play with rerooting it using the One-click method. I'll let you guys know how that goes.
Thanks for the help.
