Official 2.3.4 OTA is released

I just got the OTA this morning. The camera has improved 100% on my phone. Pictures are no longer dark.


Update:
I noticed right after the OTA my battery was dead, but just completed a charge before the update. So I rebooted the phone and now it says fully charged.

Your reboot had the effect of recalibrating the OS (and battery meter) to the battery itself.

It may take several more reboots for it to stick. It also helps to actually use the device/battery to as much drain as you can stand (or the device can stand and still run) prior to a reboot.

Two questions if you don't mind:

Is wiping the cache also recommended before applying an update - or only after?

And is this technique equally applicable to non-rooted phones?

Once the OTA notice arrives in your device, it's a good idea to allow it to install as soon as possible. Cache wipe and the reboot that goes along with it is, to me, a final step in that installation.

Once installed, whether you've decided to root or not, the cache wiping regimen is a good procedure to add to your routine maintenance of the OS, along with individual app cache cleaning, etc.
 
After receiving the OTA on friday I have been playing with apps and configuring my phone since I've only had it 10days now.
I rerooted my phone using the One-click method and it went seamlessly. Thus, I'm now rooted on 2.3.4

So far I haven't noticed any changes between 2.3.3 and 2.3.4, other than the CRT off animation. The only thing I have noticed is that this phone is a night/day difference to my old Eris phone. Right now I'm waiting on either the Nexus Prime or HTC Vigor/Rezound to be released.
 
Every several posts in this thread I'm reminding users of the OTA 2.3.4 to do cache cleaning as a "last step" in the installation.

The cache cleaners on Market take care of some of the apps/widgets, and the method in the recovery menu vacuums the cobwebs from the corners. ;)

How to Boot Droid X2 into System Recovery


  1. Power down your Droid X2
  2. Push and hold Power + Volume Down while powering up, until "Fast Boot" appears at the top of the screen, then release both buttons.
  3. Push Volume Down 7 times to scroll to "Android Recovery"

I recently took the update and now it seems I cannot carry my phone in my 'Universal Leather Pouch' without finding my phone constantly getting turned on. When I notice it on it seems to have the car dock screen but taking it out of the pouch it exits that screen rather quickly so I can't be sure. This never happened prior to this latest update (2.3.4). It's very frustrating since it certainly drains battery faster since it keeps turning the display on.

Not sure what to do but hopefully there will be another update to fix this problem?

That was happening with mine prior to the update (right from the beginning of owning the X2).

I went to another, looser fitting holster made for the Droid.

Is there a strap on the case attached with a magnet? I've heard that the Media Dock/Car Dock might actually use a light magnet to activate the dock mode.

There is a magnet that holds the flap of the holster closed. In fact, when I first got the phone I learned that I had to put the phone in such that the glass was facing the side with the magnet to prevent this sort of thing. Now since the update that doesn't work anymore, no matter which way I put the phone in the holster it ends up turning on in media dock/car dock mode.
