Dial B.S. for...

Dial C for...?

Not sure what you're intimating (I certainly hope that it was the rep, rather than me, might not have been telling the truth) but my point was I don't see why he'd mention something that he could quite easily have omitted entirely and without detriment to the content of his reply.

If it turns out to be bullshit, it turns out to be bullshit, but I can only relay what I'm told, and that was what I was told.

I'm merely intimating that "very very soon" is an entirely meaningless phrase which could mean anything, therefore the contents of the email are worthless. By using your name I had foolishly hoped to inject some humor. Having failed before in this I shall stop being so flippant about a topic as serious as an update to a mobile phone operating system.

Yes, you're quite the card.

I understand it's a completely non-committal statement by HTC, but nonetheless it's a statement from HTC (am I on the wrong thread?). But looking at it without a particularly cynical bent, one might assume "soon" could reasonably (and I appreciate our definition of "reasonable" might differ somewhat from HTC's) be two or three months, "very soon" a bit closer than that and "very, very soon" a little closer than that.

Information is generally useful - well more useful than shooting into the dark entirely - it's up to the recipient to make what they will of it. If nothing else, it can, at worst, reinforce your opinion of HTC being bullshitters, which you wouldn't be able to do without evidence.

However you cut it, it wasn't a totally worthless email; it brought you and I a little closer together after all.

One love!

in a newspost on zdnet.de regarding Froyo for the desire, they write this (translated from german by google translate):

Update from 6/23/2010:
HTC has denied through his PR agency, that there will be two weeks in an operating system update for the Desire and the Legend. The statement was based on a misunderstanding. It is certain that the HTC Hero will receive in the next two weeks, his update to Android 2.1. In the update for the HTC Desire remains vague and will deliver an update to the third quarter. If and when the Legend to upgrade to get Android 2.2, you do not know yet.
If this is to be trusted it seems like HTC is somewhat promising an update for the desire, and bringing it sometime in the third quarter this year.

heres the link to the article: Google Overs

I don't understand why Google can't give a DEFINITE and answer as to a date. Both Microsoft, and Apple always give dates as to when their new PC OS's hit the market, so why can't Google?

I really hope something happens soon, as much as i love the Desire, im now at the limit of space for apps (Cant remove any as they are all used).

I dont really want to root, but if it goes on much longer then that may be the only option, its just a shame that Google/HTC force us into this corner.

It's a little too soon to blame HTC for not providing an upgrade for Desire to 2.2 yet...Think of the fact that google did not update their own phone yet. I had a Samsung Galaxy before Desire and it took Samsung an year to upgrade from 1.5 to 1.6 (and that happen long after google released 2.1) and even so the phone it's extremely laggy. More than that they are not planning to upgrade to 2.1....ever.
I'm pretty sure 2.2 will NOT be the last update we will see from HTC and late September seems like a reasonable date.
Anyway, after google will cook an official ROM for Nexus I'm pretty sure it will be easily ported to Desire if one can live without SENSE (I'm not sure I can).

Does that mean Sense isn't compatible with 2.2? Will HTC release an upgrade for Sense then?

The current version of sense, isnt compatible with 2.2 - the only way to get 2.2 on your desire would be to root. However it seems like HTC is promising an update to the desire bringing 2.2. So no need to root, just need for patience.

Just received an e-mail from HTC and they say they don't even know what phones will be getting the update so I wouldn't get your hopes up to much (this yogurt will be sour by the time it comes out)

it will be a poor show if the Desire does not get 2.2 after all its one of the HTC flagship handsets surely?

doesnt always work like that just take apple sure if its an opportunity to release a new handset and get more money they will!

I know the code was released yesterday that still don't officially mean the desire will get it or any other HTC on the market at this time maybe they just going to put it on there new phones just like Alan Hanson says if they can, make more money they will no company these days care about customer support they just want the customers money Apple said about ios4 after they announced froyo and its out 2day that's a whole new phone aswell as an OS in the time it took Google just to release a code Android is better but I think Apple take more care in what the customer wants I his hope they can bring this update in a week because it can be done in maybe 48 hours if they bucked there ideas up come on HTC we are all waiting for you to prove you are better than iPhone

ok,
Am i right in thinking that once 2.2 is out and once HTC have adapted it for the undranded stock Desire, that the carriers will have to further adapt it for their own reasons/purposes and that they will then individually (orange, O2, etc) send an ota update to the handsets? (meaning that o2 customers may get their 2.2 after orange but before t-mobile for example?)

or do we all just get the same ota update directly from HTC?

Or am i completely wrong...?

That's correct.

Google are not Apple and IOS4 is not android (and never will be)

Google announced Froyo and told every one it will be released "soon". Which it has ( a few weeks ). HTC will now have it.
They, like everyone else got the final build yesterday and will put it on their devices when its ready.

Now I'm no professional developer (and neither are you judging by your grammar) but I'd stick my neck out and say that there's no way they're going to get the code, implement it with Sense and release it in 48 hours.

Be calm my friend. If you've got a desire you'll get Froyo.

Stretlow I agree with you there I was just trying to say why say it will be out soon like a month ago and still no OFFICIAL release date for the desire I had an email from HTC today sayin they can't comment on what devices were going to receive the update would post here but don't no how to copy email from my desire and I no I'm no developer but whats that to do with my grammar and also do you know how to copy email would be real helpful thanks

So.. let's see if I understand. The biggest benefit with froyo 2.2 is that we can send applications to SD card instead of memory.
Isn't there a developer that can build an app that does that without root the mobile?
He would be rich in seconds and all this whining would never show up.

I had a new kind of pop-up message appear during a phone call on my Desire yesterday that looked like it was a major system update - it needed me to confirm that I could use wi-fi to download or not due to the size. Unfortunately I left it alone and completed my calls, but I could never get back to the message to read it again.

Sounds like 2.2??? But how do I get the message back?

Cheers
John
