Thanks, Robo.

Has anyone with an HTC Desire purchased in Asia been able to update their phones to 2.2 using the build on Geek Word? I bought my HTC Desire A8181 in China in May unbranded, unlocked, and unrooted with English, Chinese, and Thai inputs pre-installed. Despite trying almost every suggestion on the forum to address the Status 7 error, installation aborted issue, I can't seem to get 2.2 installed on my phone and the native software update says my system's up to date (I'm on T-Mobile in the U.S., so perhaps that is why). Or, as Robo suggested, the Asian build isn't out yet, only the European one.

Any guidance?

Here's the info on my phone:
Firmware version
2.1-update1

Baseband version
32.36.00.28U_4.06.00.02_2

Kernal version
2.6.29-b7e82785 htc-kernal@and18-2 # 1

Build number
1.19.707.6 CL164549 release-keys

Software number
1.19.707.6

Browser version
WebKit 3.1

And this is the error message I get when I try to manually update to 2.2: assert failed: file_getprop(

Thanks - will do that!

It takes absolutely ages to reboot though - is this normal?!!

Yes and no :p

It's normal for some, not others... Mine only takes about 10 -15 seconds. All depends on what apps you have installed\running etc, unmounting the SD card first seems to help things along.

All sorted - many thanks!

...and it took next to no time to reboot this time, so presumably that was because the SD card was unmounted?

I don't have many apps installed, as every time I add one something seems to disappear on my phone, so I end up uninstalling it.

I don't get the notification sound when an email comes in now - and that's something I really need as jobs come in for me via email.

The last thing to disappear was the ringtone I'd downloaded - so I give up!!

I have 2 choices right now - wait for the Orange update or install the vanilla 2.2/Sense ROM (not bothered about custom ROM's, I just want to update to 2.2)

The only thing I haven't been able to find out is whether or not I will lose some of the talk plan features that I currently get from Orange. For example, my talk plan includes Orange Maps/Sat Nav and the Maps app is pre-installed on my branded Desire. If I change to non-Orange 2.2, then Orange Maps obviously won't be installed. Can I get this feature installed again after the upgrade?

Also, would I need to contact Orange after an unofficial upgrade and ask them to activate the talk plan settings, such as access points, text message centre number, etc, or are these things stored on the SIM?

After reading these forums for a few weeks, I'm happy that I could update to 2.2 now, but I'm worried about losing my talk plan functionality.

Any thoughts?

Hi,

I had a branded orange phone - brought direct, and got fed up with waiting. I kept an eye on these forums and eventually took the plunge.

Now happily running stock htc 2.2 with sense.
Not sure about the settings, but i didnt record any message details or sim specific details, and all is ok. You will lose your contacts, settings etc so back up as much as possible beforehand.

What i did to avoid some of the problems others had:

1. Read these forums, and XDA. They contain invaluable info on the processes!
2. Get your phone unlocked, sites on fleabay cost about

I've decided to give Orange til the end of the month. I've I haven't got 2.2 by the first weekend in September I'm going to flash debrand (I've found a couple of shops on Tottenham Court Road that will do this for

On Orange in the UK, no Updates.

Update from Orange on Froyo update for desire:
conorfromorange @mrbionics hi mate, as I previously tweeted-the process (for testing &adding network specific functions) takes about 4 weeks. Still on track!

Hopefully this comes out close to Vodafone and Virgin and not O2. Considering Orange were the first to announce the update I thought we would be hearing more about it.

Four Weeks takes them to 31st August by my reckoning, so still a week and a half to go. As I understand it, the only reason Voda have hit the nitro button is because of the V360 update "misunderstanding" (i.e. publicity c*ck-up) that happened last week. IMHO, the only way Voda could come out of that with anything remotely resembling a shred of dignity and positive customer service was to double their efforts in getting 2.2 out ASABP.

Of course, though, one question remains: if Voda can pull their fingers out and release 2.2 in short order (assuming the release is minty-fresh and bug free) what's taking the other SPs so long?

Today, wireless carrier Vodafone UK announced that it plans on delivering the Android 2.2 Froyo update for its HTC Desire users as soon as Monday, August 23. In other words, next week should being the Vodafone-branded Desire units up to date with the latest software for Google.

The announcement was made via the carrier's forums, and states the following: “The Android 2.2 update for HTC Desire will start to be available to Vodafone customers from Monday 23 August.”

The HTC Desire FOTA update to Android 2.2 follows the release of a Vodafone 360 software for the device, and was delayed a little to ensure that all goes well when users receive it.

“Our priority has been to make sure that the software does what we said it will do. This meant testing took a little longer than anticipated,” the said forum post notes.

Vodafone is among the first European carriers to announce the near release of an Android 2.2 update for the HTC Desire.

The Taiwanese-based mobile phone maker HTC started delivering the update to European Desire units several weeks ago, but only to unlocked devices.

Carrier specific versions of the high-end Android-based mobile phone were said at that time to taste the Froyo update at a later time, and Vodafone UK's version should get it as soon as Monday, it seems.

According to the wireless carrier, its customers should start receiving an alert informing them on the availability of the solution, and the roll-out should take about two weeks.

There are two different update processes the carrier details on its website, one for Desire units without the Vodafone 360 update installed on them (software version 1.19.161.5), and one for those with the update installed (software version 1.24.161.3).

Users interested in learning more on the new Android 2.2 update for Vodafone UK's Desire, as well on how the Vodafone 360 software can be uninstalled from their devices, should head to the operator's forums here.

“Customers who still want to use Vodafone 360 services can visit the Android Marketplace, where a number of 360 apps are available. We will also be issuing an optional Vodafone 360 update for HTC Desire users at a later date,” Vodafone concluded.

- Voda ppl enjoy!! Orange ppl - be jealous!!
