I would rather be 'naive' and believe something optimistic than be 'realistic' and go the pessimistic route.

In reallity - anything can happen - nothing in this life is certain. So, why not believe in something good?

So, I say we should expect Froyo real soon :)

Have you read their story? Notice the 'via...' at the bottom? It's the SAME story!!!

This is the problem with the Internet. A story spreads everywhere, starting with one unconfirmed and unidentifiable source. If it's mentioned enough times on Twitter, it will be trending soon. Then it gets on every forum... and by then it HAS to be 100% true.

And here's another one...

HTC: Desire, Legend & Wildfire to get Android 2.2

well endgadget have stated they contacted htc themselves so I would say their article is more than likely accurate

Oh and for reference the most recent rumour has made the front page of MSN UK HTC Desire Android 2.2 update coming in Q3 - *Technology & Gadgets News | MSN UK

If nothing else it might give HTC a nudge forward.

Well, I hope so - although HTC is getting loads of credit and would have no reason to say anything either way!

Incidentally, MSN just uses the TechRadar feed.. so that story is now from TechRader, from Recombu..

Isn't it great how all of this linking/syndicating works?!

This was kind of the point I was making, Engadget usually make an effort to check on rumours posted across the web before reporting them. One of the main reasons I stick with them rather than numerous other blogs/news sites who are wrong 50% of the time trying to be first with the detail.

If Engadget do post a rumour it is always labelled as such.

And yes I had read the article before posting.

Fingers and toes crossed for 2.2 Froyo in time for the school summer holidays!:D

Seeing that am new to the wonderful world of HTC, when I look at my Software Version it shows as 1.20.207.3... how do I know what version of Android this is.. Cupcake, Donut etc etc..??

And hope O2 push out to users devices as had massive problems with getting Nokia Firmware updates in the past because of O2!!!

That's the HTC Software version number - not android/OS version

top of the same screen is 'Firmware Version' - this is the OS verison (mine says 2.1-update1, which is Eclair)

Thanks mate, excuse my ignorance!! So Eclair it is then that I am on.

At least we know it's on the way, I hope we don't have to wait for too long, but I'd rather wait and have it work perfectly than for a rush job with problems!

Looking forward to watching iPlayer at last!

Ofc, the big news today is - 2.2 is old news :D

With Android 3.0 supposedly having a new, fancy UI - and with Desire meeting the (supposed) minimum requirements (1Ghz, 512Mb RAM and 3.5" being the minimum for what Google considers a high-end Android device that can run 3.0) - the big question is: is Desire getting the big 3? :D

But seriously, there are rumors that Android 3.0 will send custom UIs like Sense into retirement (an effort to end fragmentation). It should also sport a new, fancy 3D-like UI (similar to the Gallery app from the Nexus). So, that is interesting. Since Nexus One is the minimum requirement and since Nexus One will almost certainly get 3.0 - whaddaya think? Flashing a Nexus One ROM onto Desire when 3.0 comes out? :) Kinda glad that Desire has the same hardware as N1.

(btw, is there any way that HTC can somehow prevent rooting with some crazy new update? - I know, silly question, but I am a total noob when it comes to these things)

If HTC don't give us Cupcake, I'm sure someone else will :P

And I guess it's possible that they could prevent rooting, but, again, someone WILL find a workaround :D
