I do not change my SD card at all, but do take it out of the phone a lot as I find this way easier to transfer files etc, especially when not using my own computer. I think I take it out about once a week, to transfer photos and music.

But thanks for the info guys!:)

Don't know if you tried any of the suggestions I have below but I find taking the SD card out is a pain on my phone.

You can use bluetooth to transfer your files from phone to laptop.

If your computer doesn't have bluetooth capability, you can use a file manager call ES File Explorer. It has a feature that allows a feature that allows you to LAN share and share files between your computer and phone: EStrongs File Explorer v1.4.2.2 Application for Android | Communication

I use drop box...saving to the cloud is the easiest way to save and access files imo. The thing I like about this is that if I use multiple PC/laptops, this allows me to have the files on all of them + phone. Easy access :D I just drop my files into the dropbox from my phone and it shows up on the PC or vice versa. Only downer is that the files don't auto-sync on the phone, so you have to manually sync them: https://www.dropbox.com/features

I am looking forward to this. Really want to apps to SD. My phone is really running low on space!

Stuggling to find apps that I want to uninstall too!

The one thing I have been waiting for most in Froyo is the ability to save apps to SD. Now that Froyo is out and about, I hear there are 2 main flaws with this:

1. Some apps specially ones that are PRIVATE ie mainly paid for ones become disabled when you take the SD card out of its slot. Currently people are having problems installing these apps without buying them againn.

2. Again to do with ejecting or rebooting, after rebooting apparently the widgets/programs you have running on the phone does not work properly having to relaunch them again. So for example you have a weather widget on your home page, this will disappear?? and you have to launch it agian. Sounds a pain!

Does anyone know anything about these?

1: No, apps you buy are linked to your account, you never have to buy them again. Don't know where you heard this but it isn't true.

2: Move widgets to the phone memory, then there is no problem.

working quite well, and working for your average user are not the same tho :p

But its in teh hands of rom cookers, and they work fast!

hmm seems like we will be getting a well treated and bug free froyo build for our Desire(when it comes) that sounds much better... will they do comething to increase the battery life also???? just a thought....any comments by anyone who rooted abt the battery life??

i heard with the firmware you can change how well the OS uses the battery right?
wish they would sort it :)

I just had an email from ALK Technologies, the suppliers of CoPilot for my Desire...

"We’ve released a CoPilot Live v8 update for Android that includes support for version 2.2 of the Android operating system, also known as 'Froyo'. The update is available immediately as a free download to your Android smartphone."

If the app makers are supporting Froyo - surely it can't be long???

I think the only 'update' they need to make is to support apps 2 SD. Lots of devs are getting this done.
Plus, just because froyo is out, doesn't mean it'll be available on all handsets :-)

Sent from my HTC Desire

its nt abt appmakers supporting Froyo its ALL abt HTC customizing the Froyo and giving it to the users... Thats what every one over here waiting for.... even though the appmakers started making their apps compatible with Froyo, HTC will be taking much time to integrate the HTC Sense in Froyo...

I am getting bored day by day reading this thread... Think the official Froyo build for HTC Desire will be out only by Christmas....

Am i being a pessimist over here???

but surely that is the 4th quarter, I thought HTC was getting it out by the end of the 3rd Quarter 2010.

Nothing has been finalized and there is no official word from HTC regarding the release date... We are hearing lots of dates.. Thats all.... Till we hear any official update from HTC its better not to Guess any dates...

I'm glad I didn't get as excited about some people with regards to the release of FroYo. The waiting game is part and parcel of life, especially when no "official" date is given. As a result, I have adopted the "it will get her when it gets here..." train of thought.

It wouldn't surprise me if we are still waiting for the update in Autumn or even Christmas time. However, our hands are pretty much tied (unless you root, of course) so there is no point losing any sleep over it.

Does anyone know what the HD recording is like on 2.2? It's one of the new features I'm looking forward to. I am pretty happy with the existing quality to be honest, but HD should be even better, so far I've not seen anything to say what it's like, frame rate, etc.

cheers.

It might take a while but I'm going to wait for the official release and I'll stick my neck out and say we'll have it by the end of August...

In companies languages means 2 months before if all go well.

Really? Usually a company says Q1, Q2 etc and you expect it to be the last day, at 2359. Do HTC owners really have such faith that HTC may say a date and then aim to beat it, by as much as 2 months?

Still, that unconfirmed comment (from an unnamed spokesperson) said Q3, so perhaps it will be BEFORE Christmas but I am constantly amazed by the optimism and blind faith. I still say that HTC will release another device or two with FroYo, before 2.2 comes to other devices. They'll run Sense and the other apps fine, while people will have their cooked ROMs that will also work fine - and yet HTC will still say they had to make sure everything worked properly...

By then, a good hardcore number of early adopters will have sold the current models and upgraded - which is exactly what HTC wants you all to do!

Hey guys, just saw an unofficial 2.2 here:

devicemag.com/2010/07/13/htc-desire-android-2-2-froyo-update-unofficially-available/

Dunno how good it is as I saw it on my desire while browsing the web.

Apparently is still got a few bugs, but 95% of it works.

Would quote some of article but finding it long to try and quote on the desire. Sorry guys.

Lazy Journalism at its best........

The Froyo build for the HTC Desire from udK_dev has been coded as FRF-85B and all you need is the HTC Desire to download and install it right away. There might be some bugs in there, but that you can take for granted as it is an unofficial way to get the update ported.

Not strictly true really is it? No mention that you have to first root your Desire.... This artical makes it sound like anyone can just go download it.
