This baffles me  as im new to this rom stuff
Not really sure how to install & cant find a simple noob guide

Forget unrevoked and other such stuff as you don't need to root your phone, just flash a generic ROM onto it to get rid of network branding stuff and obtain the 2.2 update faster.

This is the simplest guide I found: Debranding / Unlocking an HTC Desire - The giffgaff community

I'd recommend obtaining a network unlock code for your phone (about

unrevoked

Works on Mac and Windows, one click rooting, plug your phone in and the app does everything for you, then it's just a case of installing the ROM which takes 5 minutes.

That's grand! Many thanks! I've had a quick look atthe site. Four questions:

1. Do I need to unlock my phone first?
2. Do I need a goldcard?
3. Does Unrevoked provide a ROM or do I have to install that myself separately?
4. What does this actuially do? Root? Debrand? What?

Hey there.

I had no issues with usb tethering before 2.2 but now it keeps disconnecting every 5 minutes. When I disable-enable the network adapter from network settings it comes back then disconnects in 5 minutes again and again.

I am using W7 Ultimate 64 bit.

Anyone has any solution for this?

Still waiting. Just been for a look around the net and it is unbelievable how many rumours and false starts there are. 3 weeks of pure bollox.

first post on this site, i just thought i would let you know that i spoke to 3 customer support today and they told me that the froyo 2.2 update for 3 branded phones will be out in 10 to 15 days, about time.:)

I want just find a nice "TV" application for ANDROID 2.2 (desire), like "Net TV" for iphone. Some others like SBP...are not so powerfull. Any apk file please ? (I could not access android.market, so please apk file, preferably).
Thanks a lot in advance,

Please, possibly anybody has "apk" file for fee "AppBrain" (or fast web browser ?). It is freely available in android.market, or AppBrain.market, which I could not have access to. Thanks in advance,

On my way out shopping... phone asked to update?

Said yes some time later it asked to reboot... then updating 10%..20% 30% etc.

Reboot then all working!

Needed to confirm Orange as Network Provider IIRC.

Very impressed.

All my groups and stuff came back OK

Oh and I have a app for WFi Hotspot now :-)

This is supposed to be coming to my network tomorrow (Vodafone) so i was wondering if i need to do any prep for it?
I.e backing things up, listing apps i need to reinstall (if i need to).

Any help would be appreciated, it's my 18th tomorrow :D

Well I didn't need do do anything but I'm on Orange via a CPW deal. See my post above.

Saying which I had previouly connected the sd card as a disk and copied the contents to my pc.

And I have upgraded my sd card to 8GB... so have the old one knocking around somewhere.

UK Vodafone 2.2 OTA update successfully installed!

Did have to uninstall/reinstall Swype, but apart from that everything worked fine. Even LockPicker, so didn't have an issue with Exchange passwords.

All FroYo has brought to my Desire is some updated widgets and worse battery life than Eclair.

Since my Froyo update on my sim / brand free Desire, my signal strength has been rubbish. I like the extra features and my battery life is fine but more often than not text messages do not send cause of loss of signal even though i'm in a good signal area. weird :(

Google apparently took note of people saying that Android wasn't enough like the iPhone, so in FroYo they've cut the signal strength! ;)

Seriously though, I doubt a firmware update will have done anything to the signal at all. I'd put it down as more likely being some local issue with your network. Can you speak to your network, or try another SIM card and network given it's SIM-free?
