Official Android 2.2 Discussion

just a quick question on what are the beinifits to running 2.2, the main ones i keep seeing or apps2SD, increased performance and being able to view bbc iplayer.

I am just curious as it could take time to get this sorted with the sense UI and i may end up rooting the phone to get 2.2 quicker.
 
Can anyone tell me if 2.2 has been pushed to regular Nexus one's yet? I mean officially - not going to grab the unfinished update from wherever.

My best case scenario (and one that would shut me up totally) is if official froyo came out for Desire AND Nexus on the 23rd June.

We're talking about less than 20 days now though - I think we all know deep down that HTC will keep us waiting for quite a while yet.
 
No, not yet. Somebody told me the 18th, but he may well have been talking out of his arse. I haven't seen written confirmation of that anywhere.

It would be pretty funny if they rolled out FroYo plus all the changes to the market (including the music service) today... what with WWDC going on and all.

I loved the sony phone when I saw it but I have more faith in HTC getting the 2.2 out then Sony releasing 2.1 for their phones so I bought the HTC Desire - my Hero's currently in the draw awaiting a 2.1 update!
 
A slight whiff of deja-vu.

I'm loving the Desire, it gets better all the time. Everyone has their own little aspects that they'd like fixing, and the great thing is that time will fix some of the issue for me, but not all.
The only minus for me is the screen. I had no idea how much I took for granted using my phone outside. It's just a real bummer with the Desire.
All the rest will come in time - decent games, decent music app..............I just don't think I'll ever see the word 'Android' and the word 'cool' used in the same sentence.

It really needs 2.2
 
If its hard to see turn off auto brightness and ramp it up for the duration of being outside, should see it fine then.
 
I install the power widget on my home screen which allows you to toggle between three brightness levels. I never have it off full brightness to be honest. There seem to be many more things wich eat the battery that the screen on my phone

This is all relative. Try using the word 'Symbian' and 'cool' in the same sentence. I rest my case.

(And if any smart alec says I just have, I'll edit this and put a full stop in the middle. :p)
 
mmmm, iphone 4 being released on JUNE 24th. where have i heard that date mentioned before!!

you never know your luck, HTC might do the business and release the 2.2 upgrade on the very same day, might get a mention on the techy blogs under the 10 pages of iphone 4 hysteria!!! :D
 
.....and yet we all know we'll still be deciding whether to root or not at Christmas because HTC haven't released froyo yet.

Seriously: Nexus hasn't even got it yet!
 
what the hell is happpening over here....first some one told its june23rd n now slowly every one is speaking abt christmas...gosh i cant wait till christmas....any official message frm htc regarding the OS update or everything is over with the OTA update which is nothing but an update..(the only change i noticed is msg count)

i'm hoping its the 24th. be nice to see HTC steal a little bit of the iphones thunder by releasing that on the same day. shame no where will probably have the phones to sell mind.....

everyone is hoping for this haha especially me, i would consider it a birthday present from HTC. I havn't even had my desire a month and have to say that apps2SD is much needed, i have reached the max and am still after more and dont want to go into rooting it as i do like the sense UI
