Official Android 2.2 w/Sense for HTC Incredible Thread

Stevo_Cali

So here we are:

Now that everyone's phones are arriving, the news we're hearing this week is that Android 2.2 should be unveiled very shortly, which will bring many new and wonderful things to our fabulous phones, in as soon as a couple weeks from now, perhaps.

So the obvious item that may concern all of us newly minted HTC Incredible users is:

How soon will we be seeing Android 2.2 with Sense UI available for our phone?!? :)

Here is the place for people who have credible information (as credible as it usually gets around here, anyway :p) to post it, whether it be info about HTC's official release, or even a ROM that can safely be applied to the phone to be up and running with 2.2 + Sense.

Have at it!

Total buzz kill. I hate technology!
I believe quite the opposite. Many people who bought this phone, did so because of the tech behind it.

What can be more inspiring and exciting, than the innovation going on right now to bring an even brighter tomorrow to a truly wonderful product?

As long is it doesn't void my warranty - I'm right with ya. But historical evidence doesn't bode well for new Android updates, unfortunately.

Well, I can *credibly* say that we're still waiting on 2.1 for the Eris, even though it was announced to be out by the end of Q1 2010. I'm willing to bet it's not a fluke, and shows precendence. I don't think the issue here is on HTC's part, but more Verizon, since 2.1 has been available via leak since before the Q1 date lapsed.

I'd say enjoy 2.1 and don't get your hopes up for 2.2 anytime soon...

From what I've heard there is some features that are supposed to be in 2.2 that will directly affect the incredible.

1) Wireless N being enabled
2) Internal memory being available to everything
3) 16GB microSD max (listed by Verizon) updated to the 32 GB (listed by HTC)

can anyone confirm these as 2.2 updates?

We won't be seeing 2.2 for a while. Maybe later this year if we're lucky. Just because Google releases it in May doesn't mean anything. Verizon still has to fully test and approve it.

judging by the fact that (as stated above) 2.1 hasnt come to eris, i doubt 2.2 would come to the incredible before hand. However, i also doubt 2.2 will be here anytime close to soon.

Officially. I'm sure Custom 2.2 Roms will be available shortly after official google release. It just boils down to whether you are willing to root/unlock your phone and void the warranty. Personally, I bought the Asurion insurance, so if my phone ever breaks it will just be really broken before I send it back.

Just because the Eris hasn't received the 2.1 update doesn't mean anything. Well it means something, but I knew they wouldnt release it before they did for the Droid. This phone is their new big phone so i think they will be a little faster to get their updates out unlike the Eris.

Also why release the 2.1 update on sense when a new phone with 2.1 is coming out. I vet soon the update will be released for the eris soon now that the incredible us rolling out.

A bit of a buzz kill. However I just got my phone yesterday, so unless 2.2 has some stuff in it that I really have use for, I am fine with waiting awhile to get it.

I'll have 2.2 very soon after google releases it! I won't wait for verizon...Why?!

ROOT!!!

We can have everything 2.2 brings through that way. Xda will be our developing site, which is the best around. Don't worry guys. Once developers can use it, we'll have ROM's out very fast. Developers there are the best of the best!

Technology is exponential. These forums kinda revolve around that theory..

You're a glass half empty kinda guy I take it?

Chances are if its done right, not only will we see custom roms but we'll eventually get our hands on VZW's stock rom as well. So that way if something does go screwy after unlocking it.. you just flash back to the stock rom, re-lock it and no one is the wiser.

I sent 3 unlocked HTC Touch Pro's back due to "malfunctions" and never a word was said to me..

I'm so excited.. I just can't hide it.. I know I know I know my phone will be here tomorrow!

It's not going to happen, as 2.1 is already being rolled out OTA for the Eris now, but the look on my wife's face would be priceless if I got a 2.2 update on my Incredible before she got the Eris update. ROFL. Having said that, I wouldn't expect an update anytime soon :)

also the Slingbox app will be released when flash 10 is available! A huge plus for me. Access to On Demand, DVR, and live TV on the go. I'll never miss a big game ever again.

Will this 2.2 Froyo update address the fact that the Incredible can't hold a decent signal to save it's battery life?

:P

All things equal the phone is amazing -- and the speed increase + flash + apps on SD should make things even more fun! Yet, I just can't help but think that the RADIO inside it is the problem with horrible battery life.

Just my two cents!

is it very easy to root an android phone, are there step by step instructions anywhere. I definitely want to jump on the android 2.2 bandwagon when it is released, even if that means I have to root my phone.

That depends some android phone can't be rooted yet, some are as easy as running a simple command. I doubt the incredible will be very easy at first but you never know. Eventually i'm sure they'll make programs that do most of the work for you, but we don't even have the first steps in root access working yet.

Not already. I mean seriously, an update thread already?! Phone JUST came out and an update thread? In the Eris forums, before is sold it to an unsuspecting chap, each time an update thread was posted a kitten lost its life.

Now I'm not a kitten sympathizer or anything, but I disapprove of the needless annihilation of the cat population as well, not to mention all of the face palms. So please, WE JUST GOT IT, CHILL AND ENJOY!!!

I'm sure this thread will be filled with tons of "credible" information.

Let me start off: I have a cousin who's ex boyfriend had a room mate in college that now works for a Best Buy in Spain, but she emails people back in the states still. She says we're sure to get it soon!
