Official Android 2.2 w/Sense for HTC Incredible Thread

Why cant anyone at least try to be positive about this?

the hardest part about getting the ERIS to 2.1 was that it had a 1.x version that was very different then 2.x versions. apps on 1.x often have issues with 2.x and sense was definitely one of those apps especially since it is a pretty major overlay.

although it may seem like 2.2 is a maor release of sorts, most of the changes seem to be relatively simple leaving a lot of the core intact and just speeding it up. Also, 2.2 is supposed to start the defragmentation and slow down of android development.

I can only assume the moving sense to 2.2 isnt the hard part, but rather getting verizon to test and push the OTA's is the problem. plus, if 2.2 has the tethering and hotspot apps, verizon is going to want a major patch to block it or charge for it.

as you can probably tell, im no professional on such matter, but it seems to make sense to me.

Anyone else agree? :D

I also think that the 2.2 update won't be immediate but shouldn't take to long considering they are only going from 2.1 2.2. Going from 1.5 to 2.1 was a big deal because they were totally different from each other.

Well, I can *credibly* say that we're still waiting on 2.1 for the Eris, even though it was announced to be out by the end of Q1 2010. I'm willing to bet it's not a fluke, and shows precendence. I don't think the issue here is on HTC's part, but more Verizon, since 2.1 has been available via leak since before the Q1 date lapsed.

I'd say enjoy 2.1 and don't get your hopes up for 2.2 anytime soon...

Maybe do you think it's taking so long because Verizon moved on to a new, better phone and is more worried about that then updating an old phone that they are going to stop selling(supposedly soon)??? The Incredible is their new "hot" phone they are going to do much more with it for the simple fact that the faster they update it the more they will say(or so the idea is) as everyone wants the latest and greatest..

Going from 1.5 to 2.1 took so long because they had to go up a whole .6! Going from 2.1 to 2.2 should take far less time...around 1/6 the time.

because the phone has only been out for 2 weeks, and people are already clamoring for an upgrade...that hasn't even been released yet!

haha, I dont even have it yet. its still in the mail. haha.

I think its cause people really just want flash and have waited for flash for a long time.

I'm sure you will see a custom 2.2 ROM in stock form but Sense won't be available until someone gets a leak from HTC whenever they actually build it which takes a few months generally.

I'm sure this thread will be filled with tons of "credible" information.

Let me start off: I have a cousin who's ex boyfriend had a room mate in college that now works for a Best Buy in Spain, but she emails people back in the states still. She says we're sure to get it soon!
any work on specific dates?

ill just root the phone and install 2.2. i have helix launcher running anyway i wont miss sense so much

Keep in mind that the 450% increase is an extremely optimistic, best-case number. We should see improvement in a lot of areas, but not as drastic as that.

Can anyone tell me why the assumption is that HTC/Verizon will start working with 2.2 only AFTER it's officially released? If that's the case, then so be it, but it seems to me that Google would allow devs to work with them on the new version right along with 'em. Not that we'll get 2.2 soon as the vanilla comes out, but I don't buy that it's going to be 6-12 months.

HTC is their biggest partner so I'm sure they've been working with a copy. It's a matter of getting it QC'd internally and by Verizon. Who knows how long it will take.

I'm looking to the speed improvements and being able to actually use all the RAM that it came with.

I read somewhere that Google makes it's development branches available to OEMs several months prior to release. That means that HTC, the biggest Android OEM, should have already started moving Sense over to 2.2 (if they're planning on doing so).

Check out ORB for a workaround to streaming live tv etc. from computer. I use it and it works well enough. I have tested on incredible and works great. I too cant wait for some full blown flash support .:D

Do you use the android Orb application, or do you just use the browser version on your phone?

With 2.2 now having been officially introduced, it will be interesting to see who will get the first rom out there.
