Official Bionic Release Date Thread

You know, if the stupid thing was 1 GHz and the 4g chipset was actually better than everyone else's, meaning we'd have lightning fast download speeds (for netflix, etc.), I might be tempted to go for it. (Although the qHD screen doesn't appeal to me. . . I had the X2 for a few days, and I was not impressed.)

BUT. . . . I know that I won't jump the gun until I've had at least 2 or 3 weeks checking the forums to see any potential problems or awesomeness, and by then the SGSII will be out. And then. . . .I'll check THAT forum thread for a couple of weeks, and by then the Nexus Prime will probably be about 2 or 3 weeks away!

It's just a cycle. I think once I decide what to do, I'm going to force myself to never check the forums for the next 2 years.

Edit: Wait a minute, I forgot. By the time the Bionic comes out, the SGSII will probably already be here.
 
I was playing with the D3, and if the screen on the Bionic is the same I will be 100% satisfied, I found it to be extremely sharp and smooth, although some ghosting when going from screen to screen. But I could easily get use to that.

It actually looks better than the D3 screen . . .

I wouldn't overclock the processors if I were you guys. These phones are cramming a lot of horsepower into a small device . . . you risk melting your CPU as well as voiding your warranty.

When overclocking, we take that risk into account. But a little bit of overclocking doesn't hurt.

How do you know the screen looks better? You have one yet? I'd love to see it... ;)

I've gotten 50mbps d/l on Bionic . . . in a major city.

Average d/l ~ 24 mbps down, about 9mbps Up. Night times are typically faster (as expected).


Bionic and GS II are different phones towards different audiences. If you want LTE, bionic is it. If you want 3G, I would say the GS II is a great phone.

Keep in mind that Samsung and Motorola have very different levels of support for their products. Internationally, there is generally less worry about returns because of varying return policy (much stricter). This generally helps samsung.

In the US, it's a different beast. Samsung tends to not support their devices the same way as Motorola. (see average update timings). That being said, it's also part of the reason that samsung is using the international markets as a test bed to find issues. However, CDMA brings a host of new problems that is different from GSM . . . hence the time it takes to port.

That's not entirely true. Samsung has CDMA wireless carrier in its home market, and they released GSM, CDMA version together at SGS2 launch. Also they are planning to launch CDMA/LTE version of SGS2 in Korea in early Fall as well.

GSM is only 2G part for voice but WCDMA (UMTS/HSPA+) coupled to it is more advanced 3G technology than slow EvDo 3G.

Good points.

Testing CDMA in a country the size of Korea (where let's face it, there's really only 1 city to worry about) vs. the US is two entirely different bests. Not an easy port is what i'm trying to say.

I'm done waiting for the bionic. I don't think I'll get it. By the time the bionic is out, a month or so later there will be a 1.5 Ghz Dual-Core + phone.

I'm gonna just wait for one of those.

I'm guessing the other LTE phone he was referring to is the Dinara.

The Bionic will be 4G, but the SGS2 will not, correct?

No one knows yet. Not even Yoda.

However, reports indicate that the SGS2 is putting out an LTE version in Korea (according to the thread in the Function forum) in September. If they're able to do that there, then they don't have to suddenly figure out a weird way to redesign the phone to accommodate LTE. They've already done it.

I don't see a reason why they couldn't do it here.
 
So with the Bionic being pushed back, is it even worth it anymore?

I just chanced my ROM on my OG Droid, and it has been much more stable, and got me thinking, "Is the bionic worth it or should I wait for the best thing?"

I know that if you think that, you will always be waiting, but with phones like the Nexus Prime coming out a month or two after the Bionic, would it be worth waiting for?

Just my thoughts, I havent done much research on the Nexus prime, but right now it was caught my attention and I think I am looking forward to it more than the bionic now... Especially with Ice cream sandwich.

Thoughts?
 
With the Bionic pushed to September, I think I'm going to stick with my broken enV Touch and wait for the Prime, so long as it comes to Verizon LTE.
 
Well, I just posted a similar answer in another thread, but it's worth reiterating. I know there are a lot of people out there like me who are nursing their OG Droids. We can't afford to hold out much longer. I believe the reason we waited this long is because we want a dual core 4G phone. The first one to drop looks to be the Bionic. I can't wait for the Function, which may not have LTE, or the Nexus Prime, which may not even be on Verizon.

And after all this time, Motorola has to have gotten it right. Right?
 
I actually **Can** afford to wait since I just got an X2. But my brother really wants a new phone and is not in financial shape to get one. So I think I am going Bionic and will give him my X2 (I came from D1 and he is still using a D1)...
