"Official" DInc 2 Retirement thread

AMTrombley0924

Android Enthusiast
So, I know this is slightly similar to the "What are you coming from" thread, but I though I'd make a thread where we can pay our final respects to the phone our DInc 2 is replacing! Some of you have been with our phones for full contracts, and in today's smartphone world, that's an eternity. So...

Have your phones served you well? I'll start off:

RIP: Motorola Droid
March 2010-April 28, 2011
Rooted, ran CM6, UD 10, GPA13
Replaced by: HTC Droid Incredible 2

Put whatever you guys think is notable about the life your phone had :D

RIP: iPhone 3GS
Protected By: Otterbox Defender Series (Yellow and Black)
December 2009-April 28, 2011

Eulogy:
She was my first smart phone. Once I got a taste of her sweet offerings I could never go back to a regular phone. She kept me company on many a lonely night throughout numerous middle eastern countries and on numerous less than luxurious "flights". She will be missed, but she will also be sent in to Verizon for that sweet $100.00 trade-in deal!

Replaced By: HTC Droid Incredible 2
Protected By: Otterbox Defender Series (Black) Soon!
April 28, 2011-???

RIP: Incredible 1. Launch day. Rooted running incROM and Sky Raider 4.0.

I loved the phone an unhealthy amount lol. I've only had the Incredible 2 for 3 days now and it's great, but I feel like I'm cheating on my Inc 1 lol. I really hope that we achieve s off and root and that we acquire a decent amount of good devs. The incredible's developer community was amazing, I want ours to be even half that and I'll be happy.

Replaced by: Incredible 2 with Otterbox Commuter and Defender. Awaiting root!

RIP: Eirs (xtrSense)
Jan 2010-April 2011

Agreed in hoping for dev interest. Wishing the fellows working on rooting the IncS all the best.

Let's see.... Not sure which phone to say RIP to. I was switching back and forth from my Droid X to my Droid Pro on a regular basis. Still keeping both of these while I make up my mind about the Inc 2. I could decide it's not enough of a difference from my Droid X to be worth full retail. Never rooted... but that could still be in my future.

Used Go Launcher on my Droid X and Pro, still checking out Sense on the Inc2.

Seidio Innocase on the Droid Pro some of the time.
Verizon Silicone Gel case on the Droid X all of the time. Car and desk docks for the X too.
Motorola extended batteries in both.

Need a case for the Inc2. Might order car dock and extended battery.

Great thread!

RIP: Blackberry Storm
May 2009-Too long!!
Replaced by HTC Droid Incredible 2

Storm was the worst phone I've ever owned (had to do a battery pull atleast 4 times a day), glad to finally be able to switch. Really looking forward to my experiences with this phone. Only thing left to do is to decide if Im gonna flush my BB or blow it up.

My little, trusty, faithful and very, very slow Eris. I was very lucky, I was one of the few who had a great running Eris (albeit slow) . It got wet twice, carried around 20 acres in a dogs mouth and spent two days lost in the cow pen (buried in...) I cleaned it up and away it went again, running like the day I received it. I too, feel almost like I am cheating on it :) I do miss a couple of things that the Eris could do that I am not finding on the Inc 2, but I am sure I will get to know my Inc 2 as well as I know the Eris. I am sure I will be posting questions and would like to thank everyone ahead of time for the advice and help. The Eris forum is truly outstanding and I am sure this will be as well!

Droid Eris
Never Rooted
November 10, 2009 - April 29, 2011
A truly hard worked and well loved companion ;)

RIP Alias 2. I don't think I'll be missing it much!
Had it for too long.
Replaced by the Incredible 2...as soon as it comes by Fedex today!

Very excited to be getting my FIRST android device today!

bye bye Inc1, you and your 16GB sd card will now serve as my dedicate MP3 player, or to switch back if I'm going to a concert or something this summer haha!

Rest in peace my faithful Droid X... I needed global, so you were laid to rest before your time.
On the positive side, I sold you on Ebay for $250! :)

And now when I'm on the phone, people won't make comments like: "man, that phone is huge"!

First smartphone for me, I retired a Samsung alias 2, which was a totally decent dumb phone. It just didn't DO anything.

Ok, so for those of you who upgraded from Dinc1 to Dinc2, with the exception of Global, why did you upgrade? What is so much better about the dinc2?

Just curious!

I am replacing my Blackberry 8330 with the Dinc 2 next week. Hope all goes well. My wife is replacing an older LG. She will be in heaven!

I am replacing my LG EnvTouch with the Incredible 2, I will be getting it wensday may 18th and I have already ordered the otterbox defender for it.

My wife is replacing her LG Env3 with a Samsung Fascinate on may 18th and we ordered a otterbox commuter for hers

We are excited to get our first android phones!

I'll be replacing a Blackberry 8220 clamshell phone and I don't even have web service with it. When I got it 2 years ago it was a free phone so I though it'd be cool to have a "Blackberry" even though I just use it for phone.

Need to wait until June 26 for my contract to expire with TMO...too cheap to pay the ETF with 4 lines on the account. We'll be getting 2 Dinc2s and moving to Verizon.

I will be retiring my LG Ally early this week. While it has served me well, my desire for a faster, more advanced phone has brought me to the DINC2. My Ally will live on as a spare phone, or possibly to replace my moms aging LG EnV3.

Mine's a little complicated. My first smartphone was my Incredible, launch day, bone stock. Then I got a Thunderbolt, launch day, also bone sotck. After a laundry list of issues I'm back to my Incredible and waiting on my Incredible2 on Tuesday.

My Incredible will live on as my media player after it's successor arrives (as it did during my time with the Tbolt). I just can't bring myself to sell it. I picked up a 32GB card for it so now it's got plenty of space for my music & videos.

On a side note I really wanted the Tbolt to be my phone for the forseeable future. But with 4 times as many issues as my Incredible (and more serious ones as well) I just couldn't stay with it. Looking forward to soldiering on with my Incredible's descendant!:D

RIP, HTC Eris.
May 26, 2011, 10:15am.
Eulogy: You were good to me. You only further cemented my dedication to HTC, the Droid op system, and Google. You impressed my friends and relatives with your synchronization, internet, and general awesomeness. Sadly, you lost your long and hard-fought battle with auto-scrolling-itis. What began as a simple annoyance quickly progressed to a disease which rendered you unusable. I wanted to kill you.

Alas, I still loved you - and I thank you for your contribution to my geekhood.

Replaced by HTC Incredible 2 - who will soon make me forget that you ever existed. Sorry.

RIP LG VX8300 flip phone
Well I have had my phone for about 5 years now and the battery life just seems to keep on going which is mainly due to the fact that it does nothing but text and talk. Today will be my last day with it and can't wait for my dinc 2 to come in the mail tomorrow.

I'll be coming over from a Droid X. The X is a GREAT phone, long story short I recently had a warranty issue with it and the replacement they sent me was no good so I complained enough and they allowed me to do an early annual upgrade (my last apparently they are doing away with this program).

I originally want the first Incredible but it was back ordered at the time I was going to upgrade last year and the X just launched and I got that on launch day. I was going to use this upgrade for a 4G phone as I thought why buy a new phone with 3G???? However I feel that the 4G models right now are not ready, too many battery life issues. Instead of getting the latest tech I wanted something solid and reliable that I know will work and the Inc 2 looks like it will fit that bill. I also really love the form factor. The X while slim is still a little big, I might miss the bigger screen however which is sweet for surfing the web and videos.

My Inc 2 should arrive today.
