I've been lurking around these forums for the last month and I sense alot of hostility amongst the users. One thing that keeps comming up is withing that they had waited for the incredible. The question is, how long do you wait. Once the incredible comes out, there will be plans for a newer and better phone. Will you wait for that one? What about the one after that, or the one after that? What has happened to us as a society that we are not happy with what we have. If 1.5 is so bad, leak or root. If that isn't what you want to do, then is a Verizon Android phone right for you?

All that's missing in this thread are the hair dryers.

Is this how we will be receiving OTA updates in the future? :D

You all bought your eris because you liked the software to begin with. Remember why you bought it to begin with.

I think when the incredible comes out it will have all the same problems that the eris has and the nexus maybe worst then every body be bitching bout that.I dont have any problems 1.5 just works for me.

You think it will lag and have bugs and have insufficient processing power to run 2.1? I don't think it'll be that bad.

Been using this version since it was posted last night and no issues yet. Not a single force close either. Loving it! Now if I could just learn how to edit my contacts that have multiple number and emails showing up, I'd be happy!

Instead of calling HTC and Verizon asking about when the update will be available, why not call the government and ask about an update stimilus plan? Or how about a cash for clunkers program. Get you out of that tired phone that was great 6 months ago but now doesnt have the power or features you are looking for.

I still think they owe us an apology for pushing so far beyond the deadline. They haven't even [publicly] acknowledged it.

I know there have been many rumors and conflicting reports but shouldn't there be some sort of official statement or press release so we know what to expect at this point?

I didnt get the official statement or press release stating that we were definately getting an update on a certain date and time. Maybe I should have added HTC and Verizon as friends on Facebook or something.

""So, I'm not your friend then? You just don't want to add me as a friend? You don't have two seconds to add me? Just to be clear, you and I are not friends." — Mr. Marsh"

"Droid Eris is getting an update to a newer version of Android early next year. Google Navigation support is coming your way ;)"

This is the original news article that mentioned Q1 2010, but he doesn't indicate his source except to say that it was Verizon spokesperson Brenda Raney:

I don't believe Verizon ever sent out a press release, but HTC's claim was official because it's their official Twitter feed.

First quarter, 2010 was official, wasn't it?

Was that posted on the HTC or Verizon website? Maybe I missed it, but I recieved all of that information from forums, secondary websites and tech news sites. I didnt see the add space Verizon took out on I-90 stating that the Eris was getting an update.

VZW gave a timeframe. It's part of the business to BS consumers to calm them down and buy some time. Sure, we all know the marketing ploy but we still fall for it. We have a reason to be upset, but at the end of the day, it's nothing unexpected.

When a kid gets molested, do we blame it for taking the bribe of a set of Justin Bieber tickets and ice cream? The kid's been slapped with DARE left and right but the moron still gets baited into it.

Same thing here. We all knew we were going to get molested but we BSed ourselves and went ahead anyway and accepted it as fact. You know why? We secretly love being molested. Subconsciously.

Maybe if they used the word "allegedly" people wouldnt be so upset. They never used the words "promise" or "guarantee". This is the nature of technology. They may have told a few people that they were going to try and get something out then, but it didnt happen. They didnt promise something was going to be there. They didnt call us up and guarantee it. Maybe they are working on it. Maybe they had a bunch of Eris phones they need to sell and some clever marketing manager said if we fake it, they will buy.

Maybe we can send a little android with a tshirt saying I  Eris to all the Verizon, HTC, and Google employee's computers. He will randomly pop up on the computer screen saying "Where's my 2.1?"

You think that will get their attention?

I think processing power will be good but I do think it will be buggy just the way these phones are.

It seems like Android as a whole is.buggy. No Android phone worthy of mention is bug-free. And I don't mean tiny bugs here and there, I'm talking big time bugs that affect function of the phone.

That's some are still with the iPhone OS. It's refined and it works. Ky Maps and all the other gimmicks get lame after a week. You don't use them consistently after a week. Android users are now realizing these gimmick apps were sugar coating the fact that the platform is raw and needs a ton of refining. Speed doesn't matter as much as stability. In fact, if the latter is good, I think the hardware of even our Erises is good enough to handle it.

First time post ... I followed this thread for a while, determined to wait for the official release, then finally decided that after so many false alarms, there was no clear sign of that coming any time soon. So I decided to take the plunge ... I've been running the 2.1 v2 leak for a couple of weeks now and it is excellent. Very, very few complaints on my part, and the few issues that I have had have been so greatly outweighed by the advantages that I have absolutely no regrets for having done this. The access to 'true' GPS alone is incredibly useful - Google navigation is extremely impressive - and I'm comparing one of the top-rated Garmin GPS units, which is what I'm used to using. Basically what I'm saying is, I'm sure there are still bugs there - but the ones I have personally encountered are really minor. If you're really that into getting 2.1, you should just do it ... give up the endless wait for the official version ... or stick with 1.5 and stop complaining. :o

Which version are you talking about? There have been tons of versions from various dev's that have been popping out lately.

I've got a Z10 and a Xt6. The Z10 clearly out shines the Xt6. The XT6 costs less, and the Xt6 is lighter and easier to use, therefore the XT6 gets used more. But when I have more time the Z10 is my choice. M13 looks awesome!
I LOVE GOOGLE SKY MAP!
