Heat can definitely crash things (if your gfx card is overheating). What kind of card do you have?

Keep an eye on your save game file though. If it seems to be getting very large you may have some run-away scripts that will end up breaking your saves.

You might also check the papyrus logs to see if any errors are being thrown.

My concern with BOSS is that it suggests the user take further action, and it hasnt been something I have needed to fix my load order. So if it is not needed, why suggest it? That's my experience anyways. YMMV. :)

My card is an AMD Radeon HD 5470 I think.

EDIT: Well I finally found it out. I updated the masterlist for load order on BOSS (was playing with internet connection off the other day and when it updated the load order, Wet and Cold Ashes moved to the bottom and everything was faster now. Before it was loaded before Frostfall for some reason.

Firstly thanks very much for all your help and advice with starting to mod Skyrim, :)

I now have the game installed with about 40 mods running and I think I've got everything I want to really get into playing it.

I found this guide in my searches, don't know if its been mentioned on here before but its influenced alot of the mods that I've installed and the way that I'm planning to play Skyrim going forward,

How I made Skyrim a Completely Different Game, and You Can Too! Part One

I've used BOSS a couple of times but mostly just to double check my load order, and have used tes5edit to clean up the master files,

Is there anything else from a modding point of view that I should be doing to get the game to run more smoothly/reduce the risks of crashes in the future?

BOSS keeps mentioning in the summary that some of the esp files have need cleaning with tes5edit, should that be my next thing to do?

^yep, BOSS lies and gets all worried about things that are not problems.

IMHO you really shouldn't ever have to use tes5edit, and I almost certainly would never use it on Skyrim.esm or any of the DLC .esm files.

AFAIK the only reason to use tes5edit is to make a patch between 2 incompatible mods and/or make a merge patch because you are nearing the mod limit of 255.

If you know what you are doing with tes5edit though it can help you resolve mod conflicts. but most of the good mods are designed not to conflict.

Oh, I almost forgot, some of the links you posted are overlapping. For example, Frostfall already incorporated bags from Bandolier and tents and camping stuff similar to Hunterborn. So instead of installing all three, stick to just Frostfall, unless you want to set traps for critters. These snow foxes are a little difficult to get a hold of four the trimmed for cloaks (Winter is Coming cloaks). Try to keep overlapping mods to a minimum. Replace those with Wet and Cold and Convenient Horses.

Darker Nights is also something I've used before, but I decided it's not needed when you have a better more comprehensive lighting mod which can achieve the same effect and cover more parts of the game like Realistic Lighting Overhaul or Enhanced Lights and FX.

As for SkyRe, I'm actually at this point debating between using that or Requiem. I hear SkyRe is more lore friendly but Requiem is so much better and more difficult. I have to watch more videos

Regarding BOSS, use it ONLY for double checking load order. Don't do the cleaning or editing recommendations it gives unless you really know what you are doing.

It's been awhile since I posted in this thread, but I thought I should since today my friend gave me a homemade Skyrim scarf...it looks pretty awesome, has Skyrim written on one end and the Dragonborne emblem on the other :)

Ok thanks very much, means I can reduce the number of MODs i currently have by a few.

I aren't using SkyRe at the moment as the esp said that you need all or some of the DLC's installed and I don't currently have any.

So I'm thinking of playing a mage on my next playthough. Anyone have experience /tips for playin a mage on ~master?

I'm tempted to play a Breton, not sure what to focus on early game, Illusion and conjuration I guess?

I was just playing an unarmored breton conjurer and it's pretty much OP even on Legendary. I just summon a dremora lord and a storm atronach and fire away from my bound bow. I didn't even have destruction skills.

I just installed SkyRe and will start a new mage so it can be a bit more difficult.

Breton magic resist is very OP for sure. Maybe i will try illusion and destruction though, that could be interesting.

then use someone other than breton :p make it more challenging.

I'm going breton again but I don't know if it matters much since i really don't use the active skills (dragonskin). Plus SkyRe debuffs the innate magic resistance by half. And I've never tried using destro mage in skyrim. Lol.

SkyRe is just too much of a commitment for me, it changes everything and is incompatible with a fair number of mods. Last time I tried it I had to patch any weapon or armor mods with the reproccer, and I lost my elven appearance overhaul and some other appearance mods.

I like the concept of SkyRe, but it was too much work for a mod.

Either way Bretons are very powerful because the game registers almost everything as magic damage. Also I think SkyRe debuffs the innate magic resists but it allows a higher cap.

Okay since you guys want to see it after dinner tonight, if i remember. It's pretty sweet.

In other news, playing a mage on the hardest difficulty sucks hard....like it's so difficult, a lot harder when I played sword and shield on the hardest :(

Shields are OP, or at least they seem to be :)

Lately I have been playing a dual-wielder/archer. Duel-weilding can be intense as you dish a ton of damage but you are always right up in the thick of it.

I get the sense that for mage conjuration/illusion is the most powerful, but i have yet to play a pure mage. I seem to always fall back to a spellsword or archer.

I love spellsword. I just love using swords and axes in general lol. I can never get away from it.

Also posting pic soon

Here we go....!

It's about 7ft long lol, it cost me 11 bucks (cost of material), she was pretty cool about it. Apparently she makes a bunch of other video game themed scarves! And she's in my major lol.

Dragonborne logo is the best

LOL! Got more than I bargained for with SkyRe's Encounter Zones. So I used Live Another Life to get a different start aside from the boring one in Helgen (seriously, if you saw the Oblivion opening, the Skyrim opening scene was seriously underwhelming. Except for the part of the dragon attach though. If it was supposed to make you panic, it succeeded on me the first time. I was like, WTF am I supposed to do? I got my freakin hands tied here!). I started at level 1 in the College of Winterhold and we went to Saarthal. Imagine going in there level 1, and you suddenly see 3 restless draugr bearing down on you with Tolfdir nowhere to be seen so you can hide behind him? Crazy. LOL.

Have any of you ever used the Realvision ENB mod?

Haven't used any ENB yet. I'm still debating it as I already have my framerates dropping below 25 now and if in a bigger cell (outdoors). It may have to do with the texture+lighting mods.
