Hint: It isn't May 22nd.

Conclusion: May 22nd release date doesn't exist. Phone is completed but production is awaiting to be gold. Depending on what happens this early month, Sprint could release the device two weeks after the events, as everything will be done before June. They will need major marketing, but it could wait after the phone is released. Official word is all Sprint need, and it's a wrap. Media will take it from there.

Okay...super sleuths...how must we take this little hint? Sounds definitive to me! We may not know the actual release date....but we do know it's NOT May 22nd! And how could we know this? Well, I would guess it a few different ways. Perhaps it's too soon and that they know it just won't be ready by that time?And...as SP says...it could be released two weeks after the events....so this makes me think they need a two week window? Maybe? Could be this is a standard window of time for an announcement to rollout time frame? Time to ship, advertise, train etc? Just guessing here...slinging stuff to see if it sticks. Another reason why May 22nd might not be the release date is that the actually release date has indeed been determined....and committed to....although it sounds like nothing is definite at this point. So...back to idea number one....this phone must simply not be ready at this time...for whatever reason. And Sprint can only force things to a certain extent. I'm thinking a release before Memorial Day makes huge sense...but this just may not be possible. Still, I hang on SPs worlds..."It isn't May 22nd.

Anyone care to add to my jibberish?

PS. What is meant by production being gold? Is the phone finished...but they are producing them now and need to complete the first order?

my guess on dates: 29th or 5th.. both Saturdays both 2-3 weeks after events. The unit I saw was fully function called and texted on it I just wish we had 4g around here grrr Manufacture date on it was April 15th 2010. ##786# gotta love that

Thanks for the enlightening post, S P. I found it interesting that release dates, even now, remain flexible. With that said, I think we're just about to the point where we're simply not going to learn anything new until the 12th (or whenever that event is), by which point you would THINK that Sprint will have come up with a date.

Thank you Self Praise, as much as I respect you and what you're saying, May 22nd would still be the best release date. If Sprint waits until June to release the EVO 4G, it will be a disaster facing the mountain of media attention centered around Apple. I think it would be a huge mistake to get in the middle of that.

Since the media blitz begins in NYC on May 12th, why not release the phone shortly after that? The public is going to be fired up and everyone is going to want the phone, so why get them stirred up now, if it isn't ready? You say it could still happen in late May. Well, May 22nd is late May. Let's not forget, the following weekend, May 28th is the beginning of the Memorial Day holiday. I can't see that being a good time to release the phone either, because people going to be traveling, camping & boating, going to the beach, etc. It's one of the busiest travel times of the year. Not only that, but Memorial Day weekend it too close to the Apple event. We need more time in between the release date and the convention for the media blitz to be effective. No doubt the pressure is on Sprint to do this, but this IS the optimal time.

If the phone ISN'T finished as you say, that's another story. In that case, Maybe Sprint should wait until mid to late summer. My belief is that the phone is already being shipped to warehouses and eieio says WiMAX is ready to be flipped on for the Media blitzes in NYC and LA. Could it be that Sprint is playing their cards so close to the chest that not even you know about it? May 22th would be the IDEAL and MOST optimal time frame available. If the phones are in the warehouses, WiMAX is ready to go (but not totally finished everywhere) and the phone has been announced, why not release it ASAP? I'm only questioning you to the point that I believe in the May 22nd date, but please don't say it isn't going to happen unless you have something to back it up.

Bill.... how would we close this, we should let it go on for awhile after the release. This is the Official EVO 4G forum and it's riddled with nothing but speculation and fluff with a hint of possible truth's.

Once the EVO does release and we can finally add official data you'll close it? I would have thought this would have been the spot where we could start to share issues and successes and what ever else we could... I'm just say'n It's been a good community thus far.

This thread is too big now. Once the phone is announced on the 12th, it's going to get even busier here. After the phone is released, there will be no reason to keep this thread open, but we're already planning a new thread to replace this one just prior to or right after the release. You guys can think about what topics you want to cover. I've already mentioned "tips and tricks" in a previous post, but ideally, I'd like to see something for everyone, beginners and seasoned users alike.

We're going to be looking for people to offer advice or tutorials on a topic they're the most interested in. There's still plenty of time, but you might start getting your topics ready now.

Thats great to hear . I'm still juggling between the Galaxy S and the evo. Guess I have to run down to a t mobile store and check out the hd2. Mostly just concerned over the size. Was hesitant over the S due to the lack of 4g.

Radioshack Presale 5/9 - Public Release two weeks later.

does anyone remember this from weeks ago, with Radioshack printscreen guy. It was dismissed at the time but this info puts release on Sunday 5/23 instead. Not saying its going to happen because it doesn't line up with events and contest dates. But I found it interesting when looking back a few weeks ago.

Bill - could something be started now in order to help new users to Android prepare for the switch? For instance, I am in the process of cleaning up and modifying contact info in my GMail account, importing contacts from other sources, etc. I believe several members (yourself, UniqueNate, and several others?) have mentioned. I would like to make a clean transition to the EVO 4G.

I'm not normally adversarial, but I do stick by my beliefs unless someone can prove otherwise to me. I believe SP is a phone tester and that he has an EVO 4G demo, but that doesn't necessarily mean he has the fast track to Dan Hesse or can say for sure what the release date is. In actuality, he doesn't know and May 22nd is still the optimal release date. I'm not from Missouri, but I want you to "show me" why I'm wrong. Don't just say that I'm wrong and expect me to take that as cardinal rule.

Edit: I'm not trying to pick a fight. The point of a forum like this is to be able to express yourself and give opinions. That's all - I'm only expressing myself in the name of fun and certainly not to prove that I'm right about some silly cause.

and thats just it... the people following the jackson religion will just keep downing you because you dont believe in what they do. My suggestion to you personally is you are your own person you believe somethign stick with it. Your no more wrong or right them them.. and unlike them I will say this your "proof" makes more sense then their proof which is nothing but hearsay and expected to believe just because they say it. I am with bellsmed on the 22nd it may not happen it may but you know what? I am not a machine and i can believe what I wish.

As big as this thread has become, I have to say, it is doing a great job of remaining 99% polite and respectful of others, which is a rare thing in these forums.

Dang Bill...hardcore to be sure...since I'm already tired of waiting for this phone already! Here's a thought? Who says the EVO 4G automatically loses to the new iPhone? I mean...sure....it has it's advantages....but wouldn't there be reviews and a constant comparison to this awesome phone? With this said...I'm sure the average consumer might not realize there are indeed alternatives to the iPhone. But I think a media blitz emphasizing all the features of the EVO 4G and WiMax would be compelling. And if Sprint wanted to...they could spit directly into the eye of AT&T and Apple....to compare network and feature vs feature of these two phones. Just a thought...or two!

I remember him and thought what he showed us was very believable and not some elaborate hoax. I'm glad you brought that up, because it fits my time frame. But let's face it, I'm not the one that came up with the May 22nd date. A lot of different people here have said the same thing. I just took it to the next level because it makes so much sense.

It also have Froyo as well, and will be shipped with it, regardless of 2.1 being the only OS Sprint has worked on. Having said that, you won't read a single word from this politician ever again. I'm retiring so I could work with the Clintons. This phone is coming out on the 22nd, so I want you guys to wait for it on this day. Peace.

That's the first time I heard the EVO 4G will come with Froyo, even though it's Android 2.1 (although modified). Looks like we're going to get our phones on the 22nd after all. Yeah!!
