eieio, this has also been gone over many times and even said by sprint themselves. 4G does not currently work on 2.1. It is not in the UI to support WiMAX as no WiMAX device existed for the platform when 2.1 was created. Now that there is a device with WiMAX using andorid and 2.2 is not ready they have to mod 2.1 to fix this.

What do they have to mod? Thanks for asking. Not all of the apps work side by side with wimax, only looking for a 3G signal. There were also a few VOIP things that had to be checked out.

The apps are not raedy because they are a new breed. You should know this if you have seen the phone! They have all mostly been reworked for the evos capabiliites. This inlcudes the fb app having a video post option, qik, youtube, and all the rest. DOn;t know much more about them, but the are going to be WIMAX AWESOME!!!!

So there are your reasons why 2.1 needs to be modded.

Ughhh the date is so close I can feel it lol. Does anyone else plan on using this thing and a full time media center? I'd rather skip out on the ipods and just use my phone for media. So convenient.
i tried to do that with my pre. but getting all my music on my pre has been and still is a nightmare. doubletwist has not worked at all.

You can have multiple windows in the browser app.

Or tabs in Opera etc.

ok thanks, so what's the process to do this in the browser if u don't mind...i c u have an incredible...is there a menu tab with an option to open new web page or something...hope i'm not asking too much, but i've NEVER used an android phone and don't even know what the tabs in Opera reference means. i'll ask u no more questions after this...muchos grassy ass in advance

It's just like explore or firefox on your pc. Tabbed web browsing.

If u use the stock android browser then all u have to do is hit the menu button and a window will pop up and u can choose new window, views what tabs u have open, bookmarks and refresh

Ok on on bed and cruising the web and I see wirefly has come out with a compare of the EVO and incredible and the one thing different other than the usual stuff we know is that it has global roaming. What the heck is that. see link. HTC EVO 4G vs. DROID Incredible by HTC | Wirefly Learn

Hopefully more than a rumor, as it has come up twice tonight...

Global roaming, SIM slot... Didn't see one in the pics, who knows...

Yes, I know you have. No doubt you've been an early release supporter all along.

Who isn't an early release supporter :D Thank God this forum is re-opened. I've missed you all, I was beginning to hallucinate as I began fighting my withdrawal from this thread... Nice to see everyone back from Bill to TS to Jackson and the rest of you, here's to excellent and informative posts all round!

Hey Jackson, do you think this is why the EVO is taking as long as it is to release?

...other than the usual stuff we know is that it has global roaming. What the heck is that. ...

At a guess I would say that it can "roam" with WI-FI or 4G VOIP since CDMA is very limited in reach. The funny thing about using the word "global" with this phone is that most of us (probably) barely "roam" around our own state let alone globe trot.

Hello all, loooong time lurker, first time poster here. I've been following Supersonic/Evo rumors and news since December, and have been suffering with my LG Muziq since January 2008. I have a few remarks and questions, but I'll go start with this to keep things simple: I was in Wal-Mart last night, and decided to take a gander at their cell phones, just to see if they had an HD2. I've been wanting to "handle" one for a while, just to get an idea of what the size of the Evo will be like. I was just a little bit worried that I wouldn't be able to get used to it's size, but after holding the HD2, I have no worries.

oh I know it roams globally.........you didnt know that lol

Is there not a difference between roams globally and global roaming
True that in the pics one does not see a sim card, but the play of words on that site is peaking my curiosity. If it does, it will be the best kept secret and a killer feature. Flagship phone and world capable. That would be so cool. But I don't see it. I wish it was though.

Going to need proof jackson. Wimax is supported for the last 200+ days. Sorry you did not read my post, but wimax is supported by android Holding the phone for some apps that can be released later is just stupid. Sorry I need you to link to a to proof that android 2.1 does not work with wimax. I have proven to you it does.

Welcome Matthew! I almost purchased a Muziq way back when, but ended up not liking it and went with a Katana instead. I'm glad I switched last minute because I don't think I could have lasted this long with the Muziq...It has been hard enough with the stinkin' Katana!

I'm glad you got to test drive the HD2 for size comparison. Today I went to check out the Incredible to get a sneak peek at the UI and Sense format. It was super exciting, I'm even more jazzed up about getting the Evo--and soon. I really liked the responsiveness of the screen and keyboard, and Sense all together. But as Billsmed had mentioned, he thought the screen was too slender and boy was he right. It it just enough of a dimensional skew on the smaller screen to be awkward and annoying.

The one thing I forgot to do was mess with the live backgrounds like I wanted, but oh well it gives me something else to look forward to on E-Day.

no need to mock me eieio, lets get real now. Dan has provided some real great info for me and everyone here. I think we are all at a debt to him, inlcuding myself, for all of the info he has let me relay to you. There is no gain for him by doing this. So please lets not mock him, he sees the thread haha

Jackson
Jackson, I didn't read it that eieio was mocking you. He was just making up something that ozcarguide would latch onto since they're quoting you.

i don't know if it's because i've played with the hd2 or not, but i too felt like the incredible was too skinny for my liking. i actually mistook the incredible for something else. i was expecting something that stood out more in person, but it actually looked pretty plain. the size alone of the evo and the hd2 make these phones stand out like apples in a bucket of oranges
