the only thing they will charge you for is to use the tether app over 4g...ive heard its a 10-20 dollar charge

Do you have proof of this? I know that's been the general consensus around here, and I hope that's correct, and I am not trying to start a fight at all, but the training material reads:

For Current Customers - Must rate/plan swap to...one of the plans designed for the Evo

Sprint Employees Begin EVO 4G Training; Screenshots a Plenty Evo4 ? AndroidGuys

Maybe I'm reading it the wrong way, as in, plan X, Y, and Z are eligible for the Evo.. Atleast, I hope that's it.

dan hesse said he wouldnt add on to the plan to use 4g for general data on the phone...it was when they showed the phone off at the ctia..ive heard from the insiders that the charge will be for tethering

I hope that's right; and that's what I've been hearing all along. I just wonder what they meant by this:

screen prints from Sprint training said:
Current Customers:
  • Must rate-plan swap to one of the bundled voice/message/data plans designed for the HTC EVO 4G(emphasis added)
Thoughts?

I do not think they have a choice. The minute it looks like it is free, we have some guy run around saying, "I am going to use it to replace a home connection." Which is funny because he will be complaining that the phone died in 2 months. And screaming how it should be a super device that does what ever he wants, even goes underwater.

I am sorry but it is not a home modem, it is a phone. If you are going to have people treating it like a home modem, then they should charge for it.

I am sorry but nothing in this world is free. So if you want to thank someone one for being charged extra, thank the people that want to use the phone as a home modem.

Personally, I get like 30% off sprint plans. So a 10-20 dollar add on is not that much, 7-15 dollars.

I would love them to lock it to a 4g area.

It would be free to use hot spot only in 4g area. If you want to use it in a 3g area, then you have to pay.

I am sorry, it is a phone. If you want a 4g modem their are a lot of them out there.

Hopefully they mean current customers who do not have an Everything Data Plan

Great googily moogily! My friend just closed this morning on an 1,100 square foot home here in Texas that's pretty nice..for $64,000!! I don't see how people can possibly afford to live in some places! And to be on topic.. Do we know for sure that if we UPGRADE we'll get the same price as new Sprint customers if we purchase from BB or the Shack? I know a lot of the phones at those places have higher upgrade prices than new customer prices. For example I know someone who bought a Moment at BB. Sprint store was $99 after MIR. New customer price at BB was $99. Upgrade eligible price was $179. Might the Evo be the same way?

Would like to know the same thing.........anyone

I just called my local sprint store and was told they would not be doing pre orders for the Evo and that you'd have to do pre orders online only, I hope she's wrong because I'd rather I was able to pre order the phone in the store than have to do it online.

Recent lurker and first time poster.

Background:
I've had so many phones, it ridiculous. I've had Tracfone, AT&T, Cingular, T-Mobile, Cricket and finally Sprint.
Known as SCB, SCB1898, and seanba in the other phone/tech forums.

I do hope, plan designed for the EVO, means an everything data plan.

I do hope it means everyone without a everything data plan has to upgrade.

Agreed. I'd like it to mean Everything Data or Simply Everything plans are necessary for this phone.

Out of curiosity, why do you hope that everyone has to upgrade?

I think he's saying:

He hopes that the Sprint training flier says that people must upgrade to Everything Data or Simply Everything to utilize the device, instead of having a new plan dedicated to the Evo.

Or, if I missed the sarcasm there:

Hahah.

I'd rather pre-order online, so it comes to my apt. unactivated.
That way I can upgrade it on my second line, but use it for my primary line.

Worst logic ever, saying the phone would die... really sir? They also carry "home internet" as usb devices which at MAX is 5V 500mA and works for long periods of time, why could this feature not be incorporate into a phone/dang near personal computer?

Question about the event on the 12th. Anyone else wondering how big an announcement they might make that day? I find it odd that they've sent invites to sites like andrioidguys, but as far as I know, engadget & gizmodo haven't announced that they've been invited. Kinda odd, don't you think?
