3G still isn't everywhere... I know it's mostly everywhere, but not quite.

Well, my current carrier says it has 97% of American's covered so that's pretty close. What they don't tell you is coverage means on a sunny day with very few users accessing the network. Really, I've been blocks away from my family and friends on the NJ shore and not been able to connect with them. Last year I did a fundraising walk at the shore, and was literally one block off the shore (they wouldn't allow my dog to walk on the boardwalk) walking parallel to my family, but I couldn't talk to them via phone.

What made me ticked off was the other people in the same boat right next to me yapping away on either VZW or Sprint.

Wow...that's an interesting story. Are you on AT&T or T-Mobile?

I've been in plenty of places where Sprint only has 1X coverage and no EVDO. It hurts! :D

I think it's a LA thing though. I've been in spots where AT&T or VZW phones have had stronger service than me.

Funny thing is, Sprint has the strongest coverage at my house, but ALL the other providers struggle to have service. With the Airrave, it makes it even better.

As soon as I go 5-10 min. down the hill, all of a sudden, perfect service for everyone. LA's coverage areas are so odd.

in 4 hours

I am currently on vacation for obvious reason posted on this thread, ROFL many times over.

I am pumped almost as everyone else on this thread. I mean this is like watching the first consumer turning on a quad core processor and laughing at a heavy graphic intensive game like Crysis almost 3 years ago.

I just know this going to be mind blowing..I just can't stand knowing I was the kid standing around help pioneering WiMax over decade ago and see a dream come true...This is truly awesome.

4 more hours ? Thank goodness the boat has a DC outlet to plug into and I am still getting a signal on my SM off the Florida, Keys coast :P

Can you or eieio provide more info about the Towerco connection? I checked their site and found towers near me. Are these supposed to be 4G towers? (they show up as Monopole and Self-support).

Towerco is an independent company that builds towers and provides infrastructure..

They also lease space on their existing towers to anyone not just Sprint..

So even though you see a TowerCo tower it does not mean that Sprints network is on it..

Hello, everyone, newbie here. I have no inside connection unfortunately so the best I can do with info is to post a link to some google functionality that I just "discovered." You can do a search and it will update on the fly as new results come in (you all may know about it, but it's new to me!) Anyway, here's a continuously updating search on the EVO as we count down to the announcement:

Welcome to EVO thread Nelson!

Sorry if this is a re-post, but I just saw this press release from last week about Time-Warner being on board for Sprint's 4G offerings and will offer TW Road Runner Mobile through 4G connection
Sprint | News Release=

Yes, they're offering 4G thru a USB card via Clear. I'm currently using one here in TX, and the thing is amazing.

Some side notes though; and maybe Eieio can explain this; but the speed seems to fluctuate like mad with this thing.. Going from .9-1.2 mb from anywhere up to 6 (the distance from the tower has not changed, just the time of day -- perhaps more users utilizing?)

Kudos, HTC for throwing it's weight around. I don't know if any looked up the markets on wall street. HTC market is 322B and Apple is 238B. I think, HTC is putting Apple in it's place and EVO is the sauce. (IMHO)

Nothing scientific, its a new network and the bugs have to be worked out..

The ip address on the wimax devices are not static (yet) sometimes it will ping a tower far away, sometimes towers that are not even in the city/state you are in..

I am also thinking that is why the Qik video clip of the guy showed him being in PA and them 16 minutes later in NY..

Comcast is on board with this as well and will be offering a combo package that will include TV,Internet,Phone and wireless data service as well.

Yeah. Saw that as well. Main reason I had an interest in Time Warner is because my cable and home internet is through them, so if I could eventually lump it all into one bundle, I'd be really happy.
