Since my update is not until July 1st and I read on a previous post that Rochester, NY is getting 4G in the "Summer of 2010", I will wait before I get the Evo. That way I won't have to pay the "bend-over/we are going to charge you because we want to/no reason if you are in 3G area/this is Sprint's way of screwing a perfectly fine product/if you really want it, you will pay it/rich experience" $10 Evo fee until I have 4G.

At least this way I will pay extra for an additional service...

sorry im kinda new at this.. whats 3G/4G cap mean ?

If you have a normal smartphone on any carrier your 3g cap is set in stone at 5gigs. After 5 gigs you are charged per kilobite.

With the evo, since you are paying the 10 bucks extra, you do not get a cap set. Suck up as much as you want.

For me I use every inch of my 5gigs and then some.

I really do think it is a smart move, considering I used 150megebytes this morning alone on my phone.

Is this in addition to nyc? or are those two the only areas in ny that will have 4g for now?

the only thing i will miss form my previous phone is the speakers... my touch pro2 has dual speakers. Evo= -1 on this one. other than that, i won't miss it a bit

This forum is outrageous... Lets get less ban-happy IMO. The fact that everyone here is so sensitive is hilarious.

Have you guys never been on the internet before?

I usually just lurk for info, I don't care if people flame, but seriously.

Anyways, quick question. I heard it mentioned that if you roam on sprint it uses your minutes and is not unlimited - is this true for all roaming or certain scenarios?

Bingo, ROI. I've been saying this all morning. I've suggested a bunch of things they could have called it. A simple $10 monthly mandatory data cap removal charge is what it really is. Too bad it's stealing thunder from the great Evo news. Sprint should have anticipated and called it something different. Even more, they should be monitoring this forum and get getting out front on it now.

Sprint marketing should have had included a simple plan explanation on Sprint's site, but I didn't find it there.

This is also a HUGE problem for Sprint, marketing and advertising. I think they failed again...Remember the original Instinct (iPhone killer) and the Pre (scary woman ads). People should be talking about how awesome this phone is and all the feature it has, but NOOOOOO!!!!!!! Most people are talking about the $10 fee, what does this tell you???

If you go on Radio Shack's site under phones they don't mention the HTC EVO on the page at all. However, if you search for HTC, it shows a page with this picture:

So it looks like they either don't have their strategy in place 100% or they aren't revealing it. Here's the URL to the page that shows this graphic:

The way I understand it is that roaming is free (as in no extra charge, but it still uses your minutes). However, if you call a wireless number from a Sprint tower, that will not count against your minutes (Any Mobile, Anytime). But, say you are using a Verizon tower, that call will use your minutes.

How do you know what tower you're using? Good question.

I just called Sprint customer service...they're totally unaware of the email I got from Best buy this morning. I just wanted to confirm that I was eligible for the upgrade through best buy, I think I am. According to them, I'm a sprint premier customer so I've been eligible since June 2008 for an upgrade through Sprint themselves, but they weren't sure about through best buy because they haven't heard of the pre-order being available.

Seems weird that there's no cross communication between BB and Sprint.

Whatever, I'm going to Best Buy soon as I'm done with work.

And if you roam only, Sprint have the option to drop you (as in kick you out and you don't have to pay ETF) for consting them too much money. I think the limit is like 800 roaming minutes a month... It should be on the fine print on your contract. I will try to find it and post it...

Man I am good with finding stuff quickly today...here it is...

Terms & Conditions
from it:

Off-network Roaming on Sprint Phones:Not available with single-band phones, or to customers residing outside an area covered by the Nationwide Sprint Network. Sprint may terminate service if (1) more than 800 minutes, (2) a majority of minutes or (3) a majority of data kilobytes in a given month are used while roaming. International calling, including in Canada and Mexico, is not included in plans with no roaming charges. Roaming usage may be invoiced after 30-60 days. Data services and certain calling features (Voicemail, Caller ID, Call Waiting, etc.) may not be available in all roaming areas.

Best Buy simply accesses Sprint's systems and checks your eligibility there. So if Sprint says you're good, then you're good.

This is exactly why I said they might actually be underselling both the network and the Evo. I don't think Apple or whatever carrier it chooses (likely ATT IMO) will be bashful about their charges. Even though they reduced them, they're still high, have caps, and won't be LTE.

This is going to show up as complaints about customer service and sales so the people in call centers and stores are taking an unnecessary amount of confusion and hostility.
