Official EVO Rumors and Speculation thread

I'm not the one that brought up May 22nd in the first place. Eieio and Self Praise both mentioned that date, but SP later said the phone won't be released until June.
.
common sense
dont forget, there are already advocates, and they usually get the phone 3-4 weeks in advance. the 22 is exactly 3 weeks.
but as ajac said, this is sprint. so their common sense is releasing it AFTER apple. but we shall see

i can see both sides of this argument but theres one thing you have to remember. sprint was the first to show it so the competetors had a look at the phone. would u give them a release date so that way they can upstage u? no but if you set it way late like they did and then release it really early you can still catch them off guard. but i still beleve it should of been released at ctia

I would love May 22nd, but it doesn't make sense to me. Many of Evo's users will be people coming from pre's. If you bought a launch day Pre, you can upgrade June 1. So if they release it on May 22nd, many people won't be able to get it for another week or so. I can imagine Sprint would want great first week sales numbers so a May 22nd release doesn't really coincide with that.

I'm quite sure they would give them an early bump up.

True, although you're already on month 11 Sprint usually has no problem upgrading you that far into your contract. A few days early to keep a customer... that's a no-brainer.

This makes no sense how will you upgrade internal memory? You plan on hacking the phone open and de-soldering the memory from the circuit board? Internal memory cannot be upgraded, sd cards can by simply replacing the card. Not to mention they are swappable.

I'm never said I was going to upgrade the internal memory, I said I was getting a 16GB SD card for this no matter what, so I much rather have 8GB built into the phone instead of them including an 8GB SD card. If they included a card then the card would just go to waste, but if it were internal memory I could use it in addition to my 16GB card.

EDIT: Sorry for double post, usually this thread moves faster than me! lol

Color me intrigued.
Can someone with a PPC account get the pic for us all please?

Maybe it was just an Advocate playing with/unboxing one?

Just curious what makes you think that's a Sprint store other than the guy's word? That could have easily been setup for one of any media events, why would any Sprint store have a phone setup when a release date isn't even announced yet?

Whoa there kemosabe, I just linked to a post that I found interesting. It is saturday and its slow so I figure I would just link to something worth talking about. And like I said I am a regular at ppcgeeks, so I will ask for a little more info from the poster.

He's just stating his opinion as to when he THINKS everything might happen, that's what this thread is all about. If he or anyone else had facts I wouldn't be here, well I would but I wouldn't be reading guesstimate posts, heh. Truth is in my book no matter how "insider" you are I take all posts as nothing more than guesses. I'll believe it when Dan Hesse says so and not a moment sooner, but it's fun to read everyone's opinion.
You said it as well as I could LatinP. Of course I'm speculating, but I've read every post in this thread and then some. Besides that, I've kept up with every news article that has come along since early January, so I feel like I have my finger on the pulse, so to speak.

Last weekend I was saying Sprint would be smart to wait until July or August after the iPhone hoopla dies down, but that opinion only brought me a lot of hate messages. One guy even called me a troll, which I don't think I deserved, but nonetheless, the message wasn't popular.

Since last weekend, we've heard (rumors) saying the phone is finished and is being brought into warehouses. I also learned some inside information that I can't share because of NDA, but it convinced me that July or even August wouldn't be good at all.

In post 7989, I stated why May 22nd makes sense to me. That's all. Am I speculating? Of course, but it really makes sense if you think about it. Everyone here has pretty much accepted June 6th or June 13th as the release date, but that's also speculation. I'm only suggesting because of the WWDC convention that the release date be moved up 2 weeks. Why is that so hard to believe? Maybe because Jackson said it wouldn't come out until June?

I'm not trying to get people's hopes up and lead them down the wrong path. From the very beginning in this thread, I've tried very hard to dispel false rumors. Right now, I'm only speculating, but I think I've hit the nail on the head. Don't want to get on the bandwagon with me? That's fine. Don't get your hope up if you don't want to feel let down if it doesn't come true. Regardless, we should know a lot more in 11 days and it will be official and not some crazy prediction.

I wasn't bashing your post, just some food for thought. Thanks for posting it here.

Hey, I've got a question what with all this talk about flash this and flash that. . . . I've got an old HTC Touch Pro that came with a YouTube app on it from Sprint to watch (obviously) YouTube videos. So if YouTube videos are flash based how is it that I can watch YouTube videos on my old Touch Pro and there's not flash available on mobile phones.

I know call me stupid but I'm obviously missing something and I really don't understand.

Well said Bill.. I for one value the opinions and speculation of people that have put so much of their time and effort into making educated guesses and not just throwing something out there to stir the pot. I look to yourself and several other posters here to fill me in on whats going on as my extremely busy schedule doesnt allow enough time for me to put in my own work and research for answers. Thanks again for all you do!

1) This week we heard rumors that the phone is ready and is being shipped to warehouses.

2) The media blitz begins on May 12th at a NYC event, then continues on May 17th in Los Angeles.

3) The rumored release date is June 6th or June 13th. That date was also confirmed by Jackson, but this week it was announced that Apple's WWDC conference will be taking place June 7 - 11. Releasing the EVO 4G in the middle of that conference would be a disaster and I highly doubt Sprint wants to release their flagship device during the middle of that.

4) If the phone is ready, releasing the phone in May makes sense as far as being able to capture media attention and buzz.

5) May 22nd makes perfect sense, because the following weekend is Memorial Day weekend and a lot of people will be out of town.

6) May 15th is two days before the May 17th LA event, so that date doesn't make any sense.

7) The weekend after Memorial Day is June 5th which brings us to the beginning of WWDC where Apple will be getting all the media coverage. I can't see a June release.

8) May 22nd is the only date that makes sense. Of course, this is based on the rumors that the phone is ready, but I believe the rumors this week suggesting the phone is already being shipped to warehouses.

9) User Orion: "I think that time frame [May 22nd] would make the most sense. The EVO will dominate the media during that time".

Jackson isn't a sprint employee so anything he says while appreciated is just a rumor until sprint confirms it.

I know with my blackberry, the phone converts the flash file to a video file to view the video. With the flash enabled device, you can natively watch the video just as you would on your computer without any process in between.
