Official EVO Rumors and Speculation thread

Could be...but y'know because Sprint is losing money faster then you can say Evo, I could see them jacking the prices. I for one hope they don't and the Evo saves them. I am considering leaving VZW after 8 years mainly because of the Evo.

actually no there not... this past quarter was one of there best in years and if they get this phone out when we think it will be out this will be the best in years

Better relatively speaking - they're still hemorrhaging money and customers. But with all that being said, I really don't see any further charge for an "evo specific" plan.

Calling other posters "morons" is exactly why threads like this can end up with insults instead of discussion.

Yeah but when posters fill up the thread with the same useless gripe over and over again instead of listening to people (case and point the monthly plans for the EVO where person after kept citing the same blogs that said that owning an EVO's gonna cost more cause you're gonna need a new plan for it and then people come out and say that they read it wrong and then more people trumpet blog after that cause they either didn't read the post clarifying thing or just don't care and want to hear themselves talk). That's kinda of stuff that starts crap on msg boards.

I saw this mentioned earlier several pages ago, but did not see any replies (apologies if there was & I missed it/them)

Once the 4G network is up & running, it is my interpetation that it will improve the 3G network for other users. My reasoning: the more folks Sprint gets on the 4G network with at least data, that will releive congestion on the 3G for the non 4G folks to use to their advantage.

So, my theory is, the EVO 4G will improve the performance of the phone you have today!
:D

In theory 3G performance could improve in areas where 4G takes the data burden off the 3G network. We'll have to see it in action though as I expect that would require a 1-1 or some other ratio of new EVO users for every traditional 3G user to be on Wimax for data.

At a minimum Wimax use in Wimax areas should prevent an influx of new customers from slowing down the network.

Many people seem to think that the battery for the EVO will be the same battery as the Hero and TP2. Last week I emailed HTC I received a reply stating it will be a different battery. I just called them to confirm this and again was told it will be a different battery. They both said it would be the most powerful battery they make.
The woman I spoke with just now said it is longer then any other battery and she said she believes it will be 1700mAh!! hopefully we will find out wednesday night.

Finally decided to post after 50 pages or so of lurking.

I don't believe that the upcoming "surprises" can have anything to do with hardware, since the specs are now public (FCC documentation et.al.). Therefore it must be software-related.

I think the most likely story is that features they claimed to be "still working on" will be activated, and/or the necessary software completed. Video chat, simultaneous voice and data use, the 2.2 update, and/or a major Flash-oriented app such as Hulu are my best guesses. I can't think of any other "surprises" that would be worthy of their own press releases, and not be a let-down when they're made public.

Also meant to add what I'd like to happen at the May 12 event. 1) Announcement of unconfirmed features that will work upon release - like video chat. 2) Confirmation that Sprint/Clearwire have turned on existing Wimax locations previously unannounced or given a later date. 3) Clarification of Evo price and plan types - not expecting anything other than the cost of hotspotting as an add-on but I still hope it will be free for at least the number of lines/devices within the same account or in linked accounts. It would be in Sprint's best interest to get some of the 3G users to access data via Wimax hotspot on Evo and other Wimax devices to continue to free up 3G resources. That could lead to speed improvements allowing Sprint to lay claim to "most dependable" and "fastest" which is something wireless carriers haven't been able to do. And 5) Annoucement that porting and new line fees will be waived through August/end summer.

This type of surprise list would really help Sprint address 1) gains in customer accounts and 2) revenue and profitability gains by putting consumers in a position where they can see so much benefit that the reason not to switch gets overriden.

Walmart became successful by not trying to be the next Sears or Montgomery Ward. Instead they focused on value to the buyer. I know WM as an example comes with a host of ills they may have also created, but it's not arguable that you see just as many if not more luxury brand cars in the lots and shoppers with designer duds as us average Joes and Janes.

I truly believe if Sprint sticks it out, big things are going to happen. Best surprise for Sprint execs and employees though would be happy customers and profitable accounts for investors. This is Sprint's best shot at a huge influx of contract customers so I hope they're using May 12 to end so many of the ambiguities.

Rest assured as soon as the iPhone's ready for revelation, there won't be any ambiguities around it. It's in Sprint's best interest to close the open ends before the iPhone holes close.

Anent most powerful...the HD3 is supposed to have an 1800 mAh one...according to specs...

Dave

he is talking about the rumored HD3, re-read his post
I edited my response . The keyword being rumored. I'm talking about what is being made NOW not the future. why can't people here just take the info for what it is We all understand that the next phone and the next after that will always be an improvement.

Everything I've seen has shown a 1500mAh battery. I would be surprised to see a larger one.
Just repeating what I was told I asked her if it was same battery as others she said no it will be longer i said we heard it was 1500 mAh like Hero & TD2 so it was assumed it would be same She again said it will be longer and more powerful and she believed it will be 1700 mAh.

Hopefully we'll know soon!!!

yes it does...it's slated for ??&? in a few months. Like the EVO (1500mAh), it's still rumor but the specs say 1800.

Dave
What are we arguing about?? I just posted what I was told. Isn't that what this thread is about? I wrote that she said "she believed". take it or leave it.

The HD3 is still a rumor the EVO is fact.

And I posted what I was told. Ok, we're even. Done?

The FCC filing I thought listed a 1500mAh battery. If that's the case then that's how big the battery will be.

Whatever it is 1500, 1700, or 50,000, I do believe it will be different then the battery for the Hero. I had 2 different people at HTC say that.

Oh really darn! Cause everyone was saying it would be the same 1500 mAh battery and I was hoping to use mine. My extra one is generic and different 1400 mAh so I wasn't expecting to use that but I guess will wait and see.

Just wait till some more knowledgable folks actually get their hands on an Evo and can confirm/deny it. I'm highly skeptical of the battery being bumped up to 1700mAh, much less it being changed in the 11th hour.
