Official EVO Rumors and Speculation thread

They may be speaking figuratively, and just mean to say that many people are anticipating the EVO arrival... what do you think? I don't think they are talking about a literal list of consumers... could be talking about media sites that want to review the EVO?

My thoughts exactly.

What if the 4G video meant 4G was now live in NYC? That'd be a longshot though because I don't see why Clearwire or Comcast wouldn't be there as well if it was to announce 4G.

Actually, I didn't think NYC would be the place to premiere this movie anyway. I thought it'd be premiered in LA where Disney has a huge studio presence.

I hope the Evo doesn't get buried like that BB device did with the U2 intro. Anyone remember that - how BB was just some booth off on the side at a huge concert? Please Sprint, don't let that happen!

Can you or eieio provide more info about the Towerco connection? I checked their site and found towers near me. Are these supposed to be 4G towers? (they show up as Monopole and Self-support).

not me. eieio is your man.

alls i know is that towerco owns towers that are capable of doing 4g. is the one down the street from me one of those? in my dreams it is.

As did I... I only hope that either A.) those clips were shot using the front facing camera, B.) shot with another phone / camera all together or C.) Qik just compresses the hell out of the video and thats why it looked so grainy....

So did I, and my thoughts exactly. The video quality was not good at all. It also didn't help that the filmer's hand was shaking so badly. The first one I saw could easily have passed as earthquake footage.

personally, i am expecting a shocker tonight

Hence me taking back my original post. I saw the screenshots that just got posted and it really does look like a Sprint 4G event. Not sure how much of that is just sponsorship but my hopes are back up a bit.
Well too, if you remember the invites that were sent out for this thing, they specifically said:

"... as we showcase the multimedia capabilities of the HTC EVO 4G ... Get a hands-on look at the device.."

Doesn't demand that anything useful is going to happen, but does say that it will be more than just a sponsorship of a screening.

Yeah... or the sequal to the Blair Witch :D

IMO, don't read anything into the Tower Co thing. They have a "partnership" with Sprint - what that exactly entails is anybody's guess. But to me it does NOT mean every tower co tower will magically be capable of letting a Sprint phone use 4G. I think it probably is only for cities that are getting blanketed by Sprint it gives them another option of deployment, not that all TowerCo towers will be used.

To expand upon this a little bit, did HTC and Verizon do a similar process by using Intel to help with things with the Incredible, or did Sprint only contract you guys to help due to it being 4G? How does what you work on impact battery life? Does what you helped do increase battery performance over a contemporary device like the HTC Incredible?

I love these questions..really :) The Snapdragon processor is identical to Incredible and EVO. Accept for one thing, the 4g radio was incorporated into the microprocessor. This was not performed by Intel, but Qualcomm. Unlike a stereotypical desktop processor, there are no mobile devices built into the chip. I.E. GSM, GPS, GPU, CPU, Wifi, 3g/EVO's case 4G. Qualcomm is responsible for the extremely difficult proc that can fit on your finger nail. I have seen similar proc under a high power microscope and this one has got to be a thing of beauty.

Samsung hummingbird on the other hand was not able to do this and ther GPU is outside of the CPU and dedicated processor. I.e it would have to run two procs on one batt supply.

Intel on the other hand invented WiMax back in 1997 and has intimate knowledge about how it works. Portland, Or. is the first test bed for WiMax in 1998 funded by Intel. (Free for Metro Portland area)

I can say yes the Snapdragon processor for EVO is about efficient as a proc can get at 1ghz and that Intel polished over the 4G software for flawless operation, must notably is EVO will sense 4G/3G area's and no longer require manual switch as shown in CTIA.

I can say that were able to reduce power requirment for both Wifi radio and 4G by 35% or 1/3 on EVO. I personally used EVO stress testing data streaming w/8 devices tethered for 4 hours no problem. I have not on the other hand tested it as a personal device, but feel confident in saying. 8 hours of mild data use should be acceptable. The 1500mah batt is larg and seem to hold a good charge for the average consumer.

I don't mean to back peddle a bit, but going back to pricing. I don't see how the EVO would carry a new price just because it's A.) the first 4G when it isn't everywhere yet and B.)3G still isn't everywhere... I know it's mostly everywhere, but not quite.

When are we to get some news today guys... when's magic time?:D

Hello, everyone, newbie here. I have no inside connection unfortunately so the best I can do with info is to post a link to some google functionality that I just "discovered." You can do a search and it will update on the fly as new results come in (you all may know about it, but it's new to me!) Anyway, here's a continuously updating search on the EVO as we count down to the announcement:

Well, my current carrier says it has 97% of American's covered so that's pretty close. What they don't tell you is coverage means on a sunny day with very few users accessing the network. Really, I've been blocks away from my family and friends on the NJ shore and not been able to connect with them. Last year I did a fundraising walk at the shore, and was literally one block off the shore (they wouldn't allow my dog to walk on the boardwalk) walking parallel to my family, but I couldn't talk to them via phone.

What made me ticked off was the other people in the same boat right next to me yapping away on either VZW or Sprint.

I've been in plenty of places where Sprint only has 1X coverage and no EVDO. It hurts! :D

i'm new to forum. never been on one before but i have both videos. will i get introuble for sharing?

How do I post them?

I have never posted a video before so....can someone please help Bigdaddy post the videos from Qik that were posted earlier today??? If you aren't working for sprint and you just found them on the web then I doubt you will run into any trouble.
