Ok I am due for an upgrade on June 1rst. How do i get best buy to give me the updgrade price on May 29th? Also do we do the preorders in the store at the Best Buy mobile counter?

how do app devs make money off of apps that are offered for free?...i'm aware that the android app market has tons of free apps, and i was asked this question and didn't know the answer....i was under the impression that part of the reason android is growing in popularity is that alot of their apps are free, and if this is the case then it begs the question regarding devs and their loot.

No this was strictly a 4G thing. Sprint/Google/HTC was in a bit of a pinch to get this product to you guys "The Fans" in a timely matter. I mean they really pushed everything they could to get this out.(4G wise) Intel invented WiMax so we were available as an logical resource to push it, code it, test it, and finally prove it. This was all in matter of a few short weeks. Everyone can remember CTIA right?
I took my team from 4x10 hour shift per week. I started a compressed 4 shift work week. 12 on 12 off 7days a week, since early April. The man hours were free of charge. Intel and everyone else involved believed this was a worth while project and a product well over due.
I don't think the general populous is unsure of the undertaking that was evolved by the top 100 NASDAQ companies to put this together. It was this thread that we got some of direction from and why I was granted a little latitude on posting something on here.

She's trying to get the Evo positioned as a business phone. Interesting.
That said it appears to me that perhaps a lot of Evos might be out there and that today's event might be the beginning of the soft launch, not just revealing more info.
While I don't think that would include sales, it definitely seems to me that Sprint wants people to know this thing works and is already in some hands.

You need to call sprint to get your upgrade date changed. BB can't do it. Once sprint changes it in their system you can go to BB to get the phone at the cheaper price.

you need sprint to agree to the early upgrade. If successful, bb will see it in your acct info.

From what I've been told, by other friendly forum members is that if you are within 18 days of your upgrade date, they will do it. You should just contact Sprint to make sure.

Simple: Devs don't always make money on their apps.
Sometimes I write an app to solve a problem that I personally am having, and then I choose to share my solution with others. Sometimes I write an app just to get to know a new programming language, or for the chance to play with interesting new technologies that I wouldn't ever get to use at work. In either case, if I've already gotten what I want out of the exercise, or if the app in question didn't take any significant amount of time to write, I probably would not bother charging for it.
On the other hand, if I neglected my work and my family for months in order to bring an app to fruition that many people had been clamoring for, I would probably want compensation for the time and effort I put in.
If I did not already have a full-time job as a developer, my attitude might be different. But as it is, I would only ever write an app in my free time if it were something that would make MY life easier or more fun. In which case I already have my reward, and if I honestly thought anyone else would like a copy I'm sure I'd make it available. Free.
thanks that makes sense...i also hear from android enthusiasts that more devs are making apps for the android market...why would a majority of devs be so keen on the apple platform as opposed to android (if that ever was the case), and what about android is attracting them now, if they weren't always interested since the beginning of androids market? hope my question makes a lil bit of sense...i'll be a first time android user when i get the evo, and any chance i get to spit some facts to an apple fanboy/girl i relish

I would assume that the large user base and powerful hardware makes the iPhone an attractive platform for user development.
As Android started showing up on these higher end phones over the last year, it has become a more attractive platform. In addition, some applications might not be approved by the Apple marketplace and since it is the only officially recognized avenue for distribution, that could also factor into a developer's decision to develop for Android instead.

And if you're not (my upgrade isn't till Aug 1st), I intend on calling Retentions once the Evo has been publicly announced. I'm going to complain about how shitty the Pre is and tell them that I was about to jump ship for the Incredible until I just caught that snazzy new Evo commercial and would rather pick up one of those, IF they'd be so kind as to bump up my upgrade date. Ought to work since I shovel over $100 their way each month.

(short explanation)
Intel is not involved in anything, but the 4G product development. I will state, all parties in involved must sign off on protocols. Once a mutual agreement is met and all parties are happy (Drink Beer) The gold copy is sent off for final signature by all representing CEO's/CTO's of said companies. The whole thing is then packaged for FCC approval. Everyone know that passed a few days ago.
Simply, we had nothing to do with HTC/Google/Sprint accept for all things related to 4G and that was still joint effort.
